Pretty much this. It always felt like it was at the cusp of turning into kino, but never did yet was interesting, and then by the second season it started turning worse and worse and finally became unwatchable anti-kino.
The final season is good. Just the explaination is a little bit wonky. And rushed.
I wonder if the Netflix 3-seasons-only was applied or Netflix was pleased that it was so successfull but unpleased how non-diverse it was.
It's pure, unfiltered kino. Extremely strong story, beautiful aesthetics, peak cinematography, and an excellent cast with no diversity castings whatsoever.
Don't listen to these morons. You need a tiny bit of brainpower to follow the plot so of course imbeciles like this anon shit on the show.
fpbp, show was ruined in the last couple of episodes of season 2 when i realised the show was not going to end and there was going to be a third season and it was obviously what they were going to do with it. they should have wrapped it up at the end of season 2, it was a good natural stopping point and they should have written an ending for it there.
Season 1 is kino, season 2 was good but in retrospective planted the seeds that ruined the series. Season 3 is fine, all around it could've been way worse I don't know how the germans did it.
It goes full German edgelord nihilism at the end. I thought it'd sour the experience for me but it was actually so over the top that it felt like parody and made me laugh.
Ignore any 90 IQ poster claiming there's a quality difference between seasons, it's such a complete and consistent story and production it might as well have been 1 long season.
This. I don't understand the hate for season 3. It's a perfectly logic scenario having there be different parallel worlds, we got to see the first 2 seasons through Jonas world and the last through Martha's the ending resulting in both these worlds being equal parts of the loop.
omg this is sooooo deeeeeep, look !
they're like standing in front of that picture and like they're not at the right place because like, there's a woman and a man on that painting and uhm the two people staring at it are not placed the same way which totally blows my mind and makes me think so much about society !
without him, Charlotte doesn't get access to the power plant. They could've wrangled the story so she did it all herself, but then you imply there isn't a world outside of winden.
What amazed me about season 2 was how the show explicitly tells you what's going to happen to certain characters, but when it happens it's still engaging. Yes, it's kino. It has flaws but the amount good overwhelms the bad.
It isn't mega, mega deep but the message isn't really clear which may just be the result of being lost in translation.
The point of the show is that time is constant regardless of travelling through time, the protagonists could never fix time because everything they'd ever done was already taken into account because that's the nature of time.
They were already experiencing the results of any meddling they had ever done or would ever do.
Except it obviously did happen, it had to happen for the loop to be closed in the first place. Just because their lives had no significant effect on the universe without time travel doesn't mean they didn't exist.
They saved tanhaus’ kids. That’s pretty significant.
Also tanhaus basically causes another Big Bang which is what creates their universes/timelines, destroying his. Because it’s following the Einstein idea where time travel isn’t currently possible, but if it’s ever made possible, it will only be possible to time travel after its made possible.
What the frick? Most of the characters and their stories have nothing to do with the main plot, only Jonas, Martha, Claudia and Tannhaus are directly driving the main plot.
Started out interesting then turned into some gay teen adventure show. Idgaf about a bunch of autistic Danish gays.
The cannibals were cool, but WHY is it every fricking time they wait until the last minute to explain the "lottery" for execution shit. Just tell people at the front door, "hey we eat people here on a lottery system, so don't come in unless you're cool with a 1/30 chance of being dinner"
Simple. Why risk your comfy set up like that.
it's a boring series that 40y/o housewives and reddit mods love because it's le smart and deep and totally has meaning and like so so so smart did I tell you how smart it is ? Like you have to be 394234923412042 IQ to watch it, this ain't your average series, this is a masterpiece because well because I said so and it's very very smart and intellectuaaal
Midwit take. The show isn't actually particularly smart, but its aesthetics are truly top tier (one of if not the best sci-fi series ever made in this regard) and it has a very compelling narrative and characters. You're being contrarian just for the sake of it.
the director should have shot all Michael's scenes from the 3 seasons first, he grew up too fast and his scenes in seasons 2 and 3 get a bit rough to see
It's pure kino, especially if you compare it to other "le mystery" shows. This one at least stays consistent and doesn't keep introducing new shit just to confuse you. It just revisits and reveals things about the same events.
The whole concept of parallel worlds was introduced at the very end of S02, and from that point it got so over the top with all the alternative scenarios, even a monkey could've predicted that even more over the top bullshit will be introduced, and the viewers had the whole S03 to predict it.
None of that was confusing and the existence of a 3rd world was predicted by many viewers before it was revealed.
Didn't even need to be predicted. 3rd world stuff was heavily implied at the start of season 2 and even the intro sequence can be viewed as 2 and 3 worlds as well as 2 and 3 timelines.
The first season starts interesting and promises something great.
Then as you keep going you realize this shit is just a sci-fi teenage love flick, basically Twilight cooked up with Time Machine.
Now that we've established that Dark is 100% certified kino let's ask some real questions. Like which character had the most consistent casting throughout all the timelines and why was it Ulrich?
To this day his best work is still By The Throat, but Dark soundtrack was top tier. The only reason I picked up Dark was because he did the OST.
Also it had quite a lot of great insert songs as well. One particular song hit really hard, but turned out the author went full blown queer trannoid mode and only the first album is good while the last albums can barely be considered a music.
No spoilers please, is it true if I love Lost I will like Dark? I only ask because I have this one contrarian gay friend who loves Dark but will shit on LOST and it pisses me off so I almost don't want to watch it in spite. Also I know the show that came after, 1912 or whatever was a pozzed show.
I honestly couldn't stand the dub so I switched to the sub. Feels a lot more authentic that way, even if I did have to rewind the dialogue on a few occasions.

you just don't get it. that is literally movie magic or the magic of music. you get so immersed you have an "out of body" experience. and no not in a drug sense (I never did drugs in my life ever). It's so freeing to leave this world behind for a time and get engulfed in a piece of art. I felt this the first time watching bambi I think. The rain song was so magical. first season yes, second was okay and the third a total shitfest
Pretty much this. It always felt like it was at the cusp of turning into kino, but never did yet was interesting, and then by the second season it started turning worse and worse and finally became unwatchable anti-kino.
Exactly this. Final season is honestly terrible, it really pissed me off.

yea first season was too good of a set up that the writers didn't know what to do and shit the bed seasons 2 3
fpbp, show was ruined in the last couple of episodes of season 2 when i realised the show was not going to end and there was going to be a third season and it was obviously what they were going to do with it. they should have wrapped it up at the end of season 2, it was a good natural stopping point and they should have written an ending for it there.

would you mind getting in the details? I don't mind spoilers, I will never watch it
one of the only things netflix ha done right
You should watch it for the tragic character arcs. Never seen any other show with so many of them.
Yes. Last kino TV show made in the Western world.

Tldr it should he viewed as o e long season.
It's a great show
significantly so. contrarians need not reply
It is OK but feels like anti-nuclear energy propaganda.
Does this look like a not-kino to you?
It does.
omg this is sooooo deeeeeep, look !
they're like standing in front of that picture and like they're not at the right place because like, there's a woman and a man on that painting and uhm the two people staring at it are not placed the same way which totally blows my mind and makes me think so much about society !
It's not about society at all but nice psychosis.
It actually is, read Habermas.
It was great but I had a lot of trouble keeping up with all the characters. It really could use with a bit of cast trimming
brainlet
That was like my opinion. Bunch of the storylines went nowhere anyways
There's not a single storyline that "went nowhere".
The detective from Season 2 could have been cut out with no impact on the overall story
without him, Charlotte doesn't get access to the power plant. They could've wrangled the story so she did it all herself, but then you imply there isn't a world outside of winden.
No it shouldn't you moron.
Even the official web page is kino.

What amazed me about season 2 was how the show explicitly tells you what's going to happen to certain characters, but when it happens it's still engaging. Yes, it's kino. It has flaws but the amount good overwhelms the bad.
Good point. You know that there is no old Ulrich in the main time. So you know that there is no way he travels back!
>season 1: 9 or 10 main characters / 3 timelines = 30 storylines
>season 2: 15 main characters / 5 timelines = 75 storylines
>season 3: 20 maincharacters / 5 timelines / 3 timelines in parallel dimension = 135 storylines
Here's your non convoluted plot bro
3: 20 maincharacters / 5 timelines / 3 timelines in parallel dimension = 135 storylines
Holy mother I forgot how complicated season 3 got.
DAMN. it didnt feel that crazy while watching it. well no, it did but not to that extent
but bro you don't understand, it's so deep and like smart and stuff !
so so so smart
It isn't mega, mega deep but the message isn't really clear which may just be the result of being lost in translation.
The point of the show is that time is constant regardless of travelling through time, the protagonists could never fix time because everything they'd ever done was already taken into account because that's the nature of time.

So basically 12 monkeys but 3 seasons long.
No, 12 Monkeys the series but better!
filtered HARD, sorry your tiny brain couldn't keep up
It's good but it goes on and on and on
The pace is glacial.
>show ends with none of the stuff that happened in the dozens of hours you spent watching really having happened
Why do shows do this? It's extremely unsatisfying.
Except it obviously did happen, it had to happen for the loop to be closed in the first place. Just because their lives had no significant effect on the universe without time travel doesn't mean they didn't exist.
They saved tanhaus’ kids. That’s pretty significant.

Would the deaf boy have survived if the timeline was reset at the end of Season 3?
Idk how to explain but the girl seemed like she smells bad, oh and garbage dialog.
nope it's all plot no character so it's boring
What the frick? Most of the characters and their stories have nothing to do with the main plot, only Jonas, Martha, Claudia and Tannhaus are directly driving the main plot.
Its entirely character driven though. Dark is what "character driven" looks like.
Started out interesting then turned into some gay teen adventure show. Idgaf about a bunch of autistic Danish gays.

Third season ruined anything good about it. This is the problem with most of these mysteries shows - you miss the mark, the whole thing is fricked.
its absolute kino, start to finish
most midwits just didnt get the end, many such cases!
the director should have shot all Michael's scenes from the 3 seasons first, he grew up too fast and his scenes in seasons 2 and 3 get a bit rough to see
Probably but it was too boring for me. I only got about 3 or 4 episodes into it before I tapped out.
It's pure kino, especially if you compare it to other "le mystery" shows. This one at least stays consistent and doesn't keep introducing new shit just to confuse you. It just revisits and reveals things about the same events.

fricking terrible and boring like all modern "horror" movies

I wasnt mad at the third season in particular. Show was strongest during and after the first season while we had to imagine what came, that's all
The first season starts interesting and promises something great.
Then as you keep going you realize this shit is just a sci-fi teenage love flick, basically Twilight cooked up with Time Machine.
>any story that involves romance is "Twilight"
Don't discuss media ever again.
imagine the sex
>get cast as HS girl
>keeps showing her breasts
>no one else in the whole show ever shows breasts
what was her problem?
Germany age of consent is 14. They don't give a shit.
what? Martha, hannah show their breasts, maybe young katarina does too? cant remember but during the "rape" scene
Darkbros, you can only pick Martha or Franziska, decide now
Elisabeth Doppler 2019
Who would win?
Oh wow I'm literally watching this at the moment
Now that we've established that Dark is 100% certified kino let's ask some real questions. Like which character had the most consistent casting throughout all the timelines and why was it Ulrich?
Because the nose. But overall he had the most visual casting.
They're all amazing but Ulrich does stand out.
his best look
kek holy shit is that actually him?
yup
Come give auntie a kiss
Garbage of the highest order and pseud bait
Soundtrack was one of Ben Frost's best works.
Kino of the highest order.

how the frick Noah got out of 2041 and went to 1920 if the particle wasn't stabilized yet?
Didnt he got the time machine suitcase?

Dark is like LOST if LOST only had good parts.
oh and I say that as somebody who loved LOST, not trying to spite you
You will probably like it, but for different reasons. And you will see how the end of both series feel rushed but Dark did it better.
Ok, I will give it a shot.
Is the dub trash? I rather not have to read subs in a complex series
I found the dub being subpar by their voice so7nd choices.
I honestly couldn't stand the dub so I switched to the sub. Feels a lot more authentic that way, even if I did have to rewind the dialogue on a few occasions.

three seasons of a family tree made by m.c. escher.

Show dropped the ball with the third season, the multiple worlds bullshit was entirely shoe-horned in.
Also still was never properly explained how Regina was able to break the loop.
I really liked Dark and probably enjoyed it more in my second viewing.
My gf and I were thinking of watching it a second time. Sounds like we should
