Is it really awkward if I go to the movie theatre by myself?

Is it really awkward if I go to the movie theatre by myself?

Not sure if this is a meme but there is something I really want to see but have nobody to go with.

      Poor Things

        >Poor Things
Oh buddy, if you go see Poor Things alone, all the employees will assume you are going to jack it in the theatre. How do I know this? I currently work at a theatre. When people buy singles tickets to Poor Things we have someone on floor post up in the theatre secretly to catch them jacking it and then kick them out. Guess who always jacks it during Poor Things? Single ticket purchasers.

No one really cares. It depends a bit on when you go I went to a weekday matinee showing of the avengers when it came out. There were maybe 5 other people there . They were all sitting on their own and all came by themselves.

      Why didn’t you help them?

I live in a pretty rural place and if there are less than 8 people that buy tickets for the show they will just refund your money and give you a free popcorn because they don't want to take the revenue loss.

Do they charge a $2 service fee for online tickets?

          Anonymous

They don't offer online tickets. From what I heard an employee tell me it's a pretty bad deal for smaller cinemas, only the big chain complexes benefit from it.

Wow what I’ve never heard of that, 8 peoples tickets is still some money for a viewing. How often does that happen?

I do it all the time. If you're that nervous about other people judging you or whatever, just got to a weekday matinee and nobody will be there. Bring some liquor with you and enjoy the show.

I used to go all the time before the experience became shit (people shouting, people checking phones and lighting the place up with their screens etc) and no one gives a shit but you.

The last time I was in theaters there were only like 5 people in the same screening as me. Enjoy physical cinema while you can.

They will flip popcorn at you.
The girls in the back are gonna giggle and suddenly look away when you turn your head.
A fat guy will "accidently" spill his beer on you from behind, he'll say sorry but everyone's gonna have a hearty laugh.
The whole town will give you "aaaawkward" looks for weeks after.
Your boss might ask you to come to his office and "talk a little".
Restaurants will pretend they have no table for you even if they're completely empty.
You'll find your door smeared with shit, probably human.

Other than that you should be fine.

I don't give a frick when I go to watch a movie heavy on special effects for the big screen. These screening are often packed with turboautists like me, and I'm just another one in the crowd.

I've never went to the movies with anyone else. I haven't ever had a friend and certainly not a girlfriend. My dream is to be able to take a girl out to a movie.

no it's not, if you're a normal person. if you're a cringe lord fat unwashed autist babyman than everything you do is awkward and you shouldn't leave you're house ngl

I saw Samurai Rebellion at my local kinomatique and they didn't send me to the popcorn mine even when I went alone, because they sent another guy instead. You won't be the only one going alone to the movies so you will be fine. just remember to give them a fat tip to overlook you when deciding who gets to go

First time I went to see a movie by myself was as a kid when Lilo & Stitch came out. I was 11. When I sat at my seat, some kid further down turned to look at me and then asked his mom why I was alone.
I have not gone to the theater by myself since then.

I don't go to see movies often, but last time I did, I went alone, and there was literally only one other person there, who was of course also alone.
Not sure if this helps you, but, it was a weekday screening, there's usually not a lot of people because most people go on the weekends. So.

That was me. We were watching Escape from New York. It played the introduction for Titanic however (last week's Cinema Flashback). You asked me if this was suppossed to be Escape From New York. I told you it was and we'd see if Escape actually starts playing because maybe they messed up the editing of the intro. Like the cuck you are, you said you'd be fine watching Titanic when I said I'd tell them the wrong movie was playing if Escape didn't start playing after the intro. Thankfully Escape From New York started playing after the intro. When the credits rolled we both embarrasedly left, because we wanted to watch ALL of the credits but the cleaners made us feel pressured to leave, despite neither of us having concessions.

I watched Spirited Away alone in a theater full of moms with their kids and their endless chatter about "the scary movie". It was way better than the Terminator something I watched just before in the other room. No one gave a damn about my invisibility, but that was when Spirited Away was on theaters.

You'll get tons of stares and laughs. A lot of them will be mostly creeped out though. Some of the kids may even throw rocks at you for being so monstrously weird.

The meme is more a joke exploiting the inherent feeling of awkwardness that one can feel but it’s that, irl it’s totally fine, done it loads of times, other people do it loads, literally just enjoying a superior viewing experience anon, doesn’t matter else who is there. People who work at the cinema won’t even bat an eye.

The hot girls in the audience care though. I hear them whispering about me during the previews and I hear them laugh when I exit the theatre as credits roll. They also laugh if I sit through the credits.

Literally just don’t worry about it.
Last time I was even in a theater I saw Top Gun 2 with my dad
place had a bar, game room, the whole shebang
There were about 2 people in the theater other than us
    Nobody cares

Look dawg I have avpd and I’m a schizoid. The secret is realizing 95% of the time no one gives a shit what you’re doing who you are etc. Dress really nice look like you have shit together. Learn to be slightly narcissistic and just ignore or look down on people. I understand the anxiety of going to someplace new and having no idea where do I enter where do I sit? What if I do something stupid and awkward and embarrass myself? Before you go anywhere new research the area the building have a plan of where to go what to do so you don’t have to worry about that.
