Assembly Cut is pretty good. 3.5/5

only thing I like about the AC is that it has more matte painting shots, all two of them

storywise, it makes things worse more worse than it improves them. the ''ox alien'' in particular should've stayed a deleted scene

      Correct, AC is great.

What would you call this kind of industrial design, aesthetically speaking? I've come to really like the sets in 3.

It should have been; it's Ripley's story and it should have ended there. Frick Hicks and Newt, it's not about them.

Wrong way round. Better than 2, worse than 1. No idea why Aliens is so revered, they took Alien, a unique genre-bending masterpiece and turned it into a dime a dozen 80s action movie. It was a good action movie sure, but not better than Robocop or Predator and nowhere near as good as Terminator 2.

Aliens 3 brings back some of that daring originality. It's a swing and a miss a lot of the time but at least it tries.

      For me it's Alien > Prometheus > 3 > Aliens > Resurrection > Covenant

2 is worse. Two is the movie that turnt it from genre-redefining, trope-subverting, atmospheric, dark and eerie, emotionally draining, gut wrenching, aesthetically heavy craft by post-horror auteur with an arthouse edge, dread-inducing, suspenseful build up with strong character development and gradual feeling of escalation, bone-chilling slow burn with “say more with less” approach and soul-shaking, blood-curdling, skin-crawling and nerve-wracking exercise in persistently looming dread where tension and anxiety permeates every frame as movie reaches its nail-biting, jaw-clenching and paranoia-inducing final climax, free of any cheap gore, cartoonish CGI or infantile jumpscares horror film
(Except unironicly) into a generic action film

everyone knows alien and terminator are better films than aliens and terminator 2, while the sequels are better action movies than the originals. alien is the best movie in either series, but i do think you're being a little harsh on aliens

nta, just saying that Cameron Sequel Syndrome is real
T2 is the same as Terminator, just bigger
Aliens is the same as Alien, just bigger
It depends on what you're in the mood to watch; horror or action

I think every one of his films is extremely safe not just in terms of the characterizations and general writing but also in the direction of the action
He's not as bad as Nolan but he doesn't have the spectacle effect of people like Bay who has more dynamism in individual scenes than entire Cameron movies
I think he's a mcdonalds director where he satisfies the general pallet for the mundane calories

Nolan is for real that guy in your class who only wore black hoodies and was completely a void of charisma or passion but was continuously using thesaurus-tier language in order to sound more intellectual

Nolan can't do dialogue and his action is very suspect, but he still pulled off the rotating hallway fight in Inception and he did it practical, not to mention he made memento and the prestige, so he will get an eternal pass from me

                >Nolan can't do dialogue and his action is very suspect
His Batman movies definitely prove this true
Nolan's fight scenes are on par with the whup-whup-whup Matrix sequels' fights, just a mess of noise and really bad cameras
Stunt guys just randomly falling over etc, he's so bad, and for some reason it's always in the final cut

Its not bad. It's main flaw is some of the CG effects for the alien. They should have found out a way to do it all practical. The CG looks really bad in a few shots.

Half the problem is the CG alien and the practical alien look nothing alike, so it takes you out of the movie somewhat.

    It's ok as a movie. Bad as a sequel/addition.
Magic facehugger and killing the important character from the previous movie? Bleah
It's still watchable and Alien-y, and the ending I don't mind, all considered.
It's the last watchable entry in a franchise that gets worse in chonological order after the 1st sequel, like terminator, and it will stay this way.

No. In a vacuum, it's actually pretty good. But Alien 3 isn't "unrelated prisonworld monster movie" it's the third film in a franchise which means it has expectations and continuity. And it failed abysmally in that regard.

i feel like i'm the only person who didn't really care about Hicks and newt dying. Ripley and the alien are inextricable nemeses by the end of the second movie, it thematically makes sense that it would once again take everything from her, culminating in Ripley having to sacrifice literally everything to stop it at the end of 3. the way in which Hicks and newt were killed is pretty dumb though, should've just said their pods failed or something

        Anonymous

Nah, you're not the only one

        >Good end to the trilogy.
It should have been; it's Ripley's story and it should have ended there. Frick Hicks and Newt, it's not about them.

I think it would have been even more personal to Ripley had a xenomorph got to them rather than her. If we're going bleak, let's go full fricking bleak
That's one of the things I really love about Alien Cubed; the hopelessness and rusty, decaying atmosphere. It looks and feels like the end.
Should have been, but Resurrection happened, and it was just a fricking cartoon. Wasted its cast; Michael Wincott is a fricking good actor, and that movie completely gubbed him.

The attempted rape scene alone trumps any other in the franchise
    Also, the Fincher factor
