It's not one of those shows that's great because it has some incredible plot twists or did anything really avant-garde for a kid's show, but what it does excel at is being consistently high quality in pacing, writing, storytelling, etc. In other words, there's no 10/10 moments that I can remember but each episode feels like a solid 8/10 throughout. Any moment that you could consider "filler" just feels comfy.

True enough, but i'd like to say that the storm was pretty close to 10/10. The first duel between zuko and jao was top tier as well.

If you're under 18 and/or you really like shounen anime you'll like it.

Yeah what else is on your list? Let me guess - Death Note i bet, and Fullmetal Alchemist

      Good:
      >Quality fight scenes. Actually good choreography for a kids show
      >Original setting and lore
      >Improves with each season
      >Its a kids show where they go on an actual adventure. No status quo bullshit, they’re actually traveling the world and working towards a goal
      >Few 10/10 jokes
      >Well-written characters: Zuko, Iroh, Aang
      >Combustion Man
      >features my original waifu Toph
      Bad:
      >First season is shaky
      >Ozai is a little bland next to Azula and even some minor villains like the bloodbender lady
      >Few very bad episodes (The grand canyon episode jesus christ)
      >Lion Turtle gets one (1) five second scene of foreshadowing
      >Said foreshadowing doesnt even hint at what he can do. I.E. writers wrote themselves into a corner
      >Zuko’s mom cliffhanger was a little weak
      >Toph gets sidelined in a major way Pretty good show. Everything afterwards, Korra, the comics, the movies, has all been total trash.

Its kind of sad Avatar gets so much praise. This should be the bare minimum for children’s entertainment in America. Meanwhile Japanese kids get to watch Lupin III while we were stuck with Scooby Doo. No wonder we have so many gays

Your "Good" list sounds like a teenager whose only experience with media is through cartoons wrote it.

      >But not much there if you're over the age of 15 or aren't riding nostalgia.

Watched it at 30. Loved it.

I bet you have a funco pop collection and a baby yoda t-shirt.

It's the best western animated show for sure but that's a low bar. It gets hyped up a bit too much. the pilot is childish and the middle of s1 is trash. I don't know how any adult got into it. S2 and up is as good as anime shonen anime. The ending is exactly how you should end a show.

He's right. At the end of the day it's a childrens cartoon, and the first few episodes really reflect that.

The energy bending turtle resolution to the fire nation question is an awful cop out. Shows how limited kids media is in the US if you couldn't just off Ozai.

Aang never kills a single person in the entire show. Yeah its ridiculous that Sokka or “You killed my mom!!” Katara never offs a few fire nation footsoldiers, but with Aang it makes sense. He’s a pacifist.

It is. Literally the best animated series made by westoids (ok I think the animators were Koreans, probably the same guys who animate Japanese anime).

The only problem (besides the awfulness of canon ships) is that the hero doesn't kill a genocidally evil opponent.

It's pretty much reddit meets netflix meets globohomosexual feminism. Basically it's feminism the show made to hypnotise the viewer into thinking "white men bad" and "POC women good". There isn't really much more to this dreary show than that.

      >it's feminism the show made to hypnotise the viewer into thinking "white men bad" and "POC women good"
You sure we watched the same show?

Aang and Sokka aren't really led around by the female characters and it's arguable whether the girls are any more competent than them. Katara's "competence" is portrayed as her being an uptight busybody who needs to chill out. She also gets drunk on power in a way that none of the others do. And Toph is a rebellious brat and something of a bad influence.

And while Zuko did start out weaker than Azula, it was treated like a dark side of the force type thing where being a murderous bastard is easy mode. Zuko took the more difficult road and wound up stronger for it. Really, Zuko and Azula are, if anything, anti-SJW pandering. The boy is so innately righteous that being raised as a villain causes him mental anguish while the girl is psychotically evil and is never redeemed.

Really it is Zuko grows stronger as Azula grows weaker.
        At peak, she's above him.
But isolation and untreated mental illness left her sloppy and frail, while he got healing and came out better for it.

Ursa I think is one of the most under-hated characters in animation.

I'm still as racist as I was before watching this. And I watched it as both a kid and an adult. Although to be fair, I wasn't really into it as a kid, so it didn't have an impact on my life.

    Probably the GOAT western cartoon.
Had a story in mind, went in and executed it, then ended. No true filler, no pushing agenda, no running too many seasons too long - just good fun times through and through. Pretty much all stuff I hear the sequel thing fell victim to which is why I won't bother with it

The grand canyon episode was bad but what made it worse was the fact nick would play it all the time on rereuns. It was always the go-to rerun episode for whatever reason.

        Anonymous

If I had to guess they did reruns because it wasnt a plot essential episode. Very few of their shows had ongoing stories, they were self-contained Spongebob type shit

        Really?
I think it is a bit janky and facile, imo.
The animation is generally only 'okay' and sometimes it can just be ugly.
The character writing is decent, but very obvious. There are only a handful of moments that come to mind that were really good. The flashback to the older Avatars talking about how they dealt with life-and-death struggles (the water guy not having any, Kyoshi killing her enemy, Roku failing against his) was about the best moment, imo.

Great for kids, but I think if you're older it is too basic for most.
A show I'd love for my daughter to watch, but would be weirded out if my girlfriend loved it.

I watched it when I was 30 and it was okay because it's obviously a kid's show but I know I probably would've loved it when I was younger. I'd definitely recommend it to kids. The adult fans are certainly carried by nostalgia but that's alright.
