Not even close. Raid 2 is shit as a movie and a story. All it has is some extremely good fight scenes. Its story makes absolutely no sense at any point and is one of the worst stories ever written.

Raid 1 is miles better than Raid 2 purely because it has an actual story that makes sense.

It never was. The first Raid is a better action film by miles. Various american made action films made in the years since, while clearly influenced by them, have easily topped raid 2, like John Wick 2 and probably 4 and Extraction.
The Raid 2 is bloated, overlong, and the action is overly, unnecessarily brutally gross and violent, something that wasn't an issue at all in the first movie, which is tighter, better paced, and despite a much shorter length has a much better plot and emotional core with the relationship between the two brothers as the centerpiece of the film.

I agree with this, the second movie is a slog that wants to be Internal Affairs/The Departed. Should have done a much simpler setup, like the cop gets railroaded by corrupt higher ups and put into holding on bs criminal charges, and an assassination attempt happens on him but he wins, so the big crime lord or whatever sets siege to the entire police building that he's being held in and he and the few cops left have to survive an onslaught. An indonesian Assault on precinct 13. Not the 3 hour wannabe shit we got instead.

I agree. The 1st makes sense, the cops start with guns and had to switch to knives and punching because they got ambushed and ran out of bullets. In Raid 2 Rama goes undercover with one of the most powerful gangs in Jakarta and instead of encountering gangsters and assassins with guns he runs into le wacky baseball bat man and co.

Agree, even though I do like Raid 2. The final knife dual fight in 2 was good but nothing actually tops the Mad Dog fight. Was extremely cathartic when he finally died.

raid 1 is kino of the highest order. raid 2 has too many useless dialogues and exposition, too few fights, protag's brother from the first movie dies in first seconds of the second movie. in other words it's shit
