It used to have a pretty conversational "talking with your friends" kinda vibe and was willing to shitpost a little and have fun describing the tropes and shit. It was also pretty good at actually explaining in detail how and where shit was used, which made it actually pretty useful as reference material.
That's mostly gone outside of a few calcified or basically hidden pages. They've been scrubbing trope names of references for awhile as well.
TFwiki is slowly going the same way because Britgays have secured their hold over it and begun purging jokes and shit.
IDW crashing and burning made the Britbong/Weaboo G1 war go from "eh nobody *really* cares" to the bongtards losing their fricking minds as their Dr.Who based tumblr infection hit critical mass and randomly decided to start slanting the frick out of everything and scrubbing jokes and horny shit because the weebtards liked them, basically. It's been a shitshow.
That's hilarious to know mostly because we know the TFWiki old guard is hovering in their 40s to 50 right now. So them fighting Discord zoomers over frickin' Star Saber is a great mental image.

Britgay Geewunners actually trend a bit older, the entire IDW writer line up aside from one or two were old Marvel UK homosexuals. They started out as spergs jerking off to Shockwave and rationalism and thinking Primus was fake and gay and slowly escalated.
Most Weebs are basically in retreat. They never were a particularly organized group to begin with because subs of G1 shit that wasn't bad on purpose were hard as frick to find due to Hasbro actively defending the IP in the US [compared to shit like pick a given anime in the 80s to 90s.] and nobody expected the britgays to go this fricking apeshit randomly. IDW losing hype and shit like that basically buckbroke them.

Wait, were people making too many DEUS VAULT jokes about IDW Star Saber?

The TLDR: is there's a long standing lowkey split in the TF fanbase based on which version of G1 you like more, Cartoon VS Comic, and which continuation/expansion of G1 you like more, Japshit or Bongshit. It roughly splits between Cartoon/Japshit and Comics/bonghomosexualry because the Japs made sequel cartoons and the bongs expanded the marvel comic run.
Bonggays had codified homosexual fancircled like Transfans UK where they wrote fanfiction that was basically proto-Lesswronggayging, later a shitload of them became big names in the fandom and got official jobs for IDW. Japshitters never had that because getting subs of Japshit TF stuff was hard back in the day and so bongs dominated the narrative but nothing much came of it.
IDW brought a tide of tumblrgays who stroked the Bonggays egos and shared their love of bad british scifi series, when the gravy train finally died, to try and keep the dickstrokes coming they started acting up and purging what they can.
It's not too complicated though calling it a war gives it too much credit. It's more the Marvel UK gays chimping out for some reason while the weebs kind of ignore them. Nobody knows why. Best guess is because a lot of the big name ones worked for IDW and IDW doesn't get to do TF shit anymore but nobody actually *knows*.
>It used to have a pretty conversational "talking with your friends" kinda vibe
it was a forum for buttholes, just like everything else in the 2000s when formal forums were dying and socials weren't ready to replace them
> It was also pretty good at actually explaining in detail how and where shit was used, which made it actually pretty useful as reference material.
I hope you don't mean it was in any sense useful for filmmaking or writing or any other artistic endeavor on a professional level, because if you've worked professionally in any of the fields tvtropes claims to be knowledgeable about it... it's like your real day job, where you stack shelves or design circuit boards or prepare court briefs or whatever, is being explained to you by a furry who refuses to stop using the UwU voice or learn any of the terminology, nobody who learned their shit on tvtropes has ever gone on to work in any creative industry as anything but a fricking drag on their productions
god knows academic criticism has its own impenetrable and equally made-up terminology already, but at least a literary critic isn't busting out hapax legomenon meme references that only people who were 21-25 years old and using a specific long-dead site between 2007 and 2008 will have any means of understanding because the meme itself is long forgotten
nothing that is a useful reference should rely on the calcified speech of people who were living their myspace emo phase for clarity
I meant more in the sense of "Frick, which episode did that...frick that one thing with that one chick with that one personality show up in in that one show?" or the "So what the frick was going on with X's arc in Y again it's been 10+ years and I can't remember the episode to even begin checking again right this minute" type of thing where you could kind of narrow shit down to dredge up old details of shit. It was useful for fact checking arguments about series and homosexualry like that or to help you explain some shit. Nobody should be using it as a writing resource aside from like, a place to check for other examples of a genre .
god those were teh days.
remember when it proudly advertised that it was a buttload less informal than the other wiki >Tfwiki
but tfwiki was already getting scrubbed by the increasingly wokenheimer Walky and his pals.

Judging by the barking done by Councillor Vay Hek their campaign in the House isn't finished yet and have simply allocated their focus to other subjects of intetest. The idea of the crossover seems to consistently be this strange, deep obsession among a particular type of internet autist. What I'm bringing up here also tangentially relates to the Transformers/fandom wiki/British nerd autism anons were talking about at the start of this thread, but it's related to this Pantheon shit too.
So I'm not a wikigay or anything, but I go on the Doctor Who Wiki occasionally whenever I want to look up something about the show and it's incredibly obvious that, in the last year or so, there's been a handful of specific autists who've just added a bunch of ridiculous non-Doctor Who shit to the site on the basis that there's some point where it "crosses over". Chief among them is this kid, Cookieboy:
https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/User:Cookieboy_2005
He's particularly obsessed with Lego and Disney Channel and keeps making articles about things entirely unrelated to Doctor Who except for the fact that they've appeared in some comedy skit or advert together, e.g., https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Untitled_(Disney_XD_TV_story). And, to get to the whole reason I've written this spiel, at the bottom of his profile is pic related, which is a massive """chart""" of pure, unfiltered autism.
I genuinely cannot understand what compels these people to obsess over stuff like this.
the sheer novelty of the basic idea, characters from different pieces of fiction interactive with each other, the whole trope pantheon thing is littered with stuff like these, and its one of the reasons why smash bros is such a beloved game series and part of why pibby got so big besides “le kid thing Scary”
I remember them protecting the Ralph Breaks the Internet pages for a while until giving up when it became apparent nobody liked how they handled Vannelope.
They're just another example of a website that refuses to accept any negative criticism towards the publishers. It's like dealing with Reddit where people will post collections of the worst comics imaginable and at best you need to pretend it's a "Cult following."
>bans you for misgendering >bans you for criticizing blacks >bans you for interpreting Republicans in any way that isn't hillbilly nazis
It's your typical normie website with tyrannical Troon mods, like take a wild guess
tv tropes went woke a long ass time ago, I remember there's always been a lot of fricking drama for no good reason regarding the novel e-girlta.
Though honestly I think what really killed the site was a cascade of shit: >tv tropes starts getting a really shitty reputation thanks to troper tales readings gaining popularity on youtube >in addition to scrubbing troper tales, the whole site starts getting waxed over with anything problematic getting removed >tropes start getting more generic as well, anything too referential starts getting more generic titles (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse)
and just the site being a massive circlejerk for certain fanbases that try to shove every god damned trope on the site into whatever they're fans of just kind of killed a lot of the fun in browsing random pages.
These days I almost never user the site outside of once in a blue moon where I can't remember the name of something but have a vague idea of what trope pages it might be listed under (though trying to find anything this way is a massive pain in the ass and usually doesn't work).
Really though it's always been a shitty site and it shouldn't be too surprising that it's been leaking users.
I visited the complete monster thread, a cesspit of autism in its own right, and they were recently seething big time because a cross-dressing serial killer from a JK Rowling book got proposed
TVTropes used to be fun until it got attracted more attention and got ruined by outsiders coming in and taking over. Just like the original Jump the Shark site and the SCP site.
>certain fanbases that try to shove every god damned trope on the site into whatever they're fans of
I'll get drunk in a few minutes if I took a swig every time Bionicle shows up on any trope page.
originally: as a black person, being aware of the political and social dangers facing you in American society
more recently, depending on who you ask: a progressive mindset for a variety of social issues, or literally the devil
It used to be black slang for decades, as the other anon mentioned. Then white libs on twitter started using it. And the right wing schizos, including pundits and literal fricking politicians, started using it for literally everything remotely to the left of center right. It means anything from black people and gays appearing in movies you don't want black people in to environmental regulations.
I haven't hear any black person or left-leaning person use it unironically in years.
If you don't spend every moment of your life consuming manufactured outrage from network news, or seeking it out yourself on social media, it's actually very probable that you haven't heard the term "woke" used in any significant way, or if you did, you just ignored it because "woke" is just a regular word.
Most mentally-healthy humans are not embroiled in this shallow cesspool of a culture war
More verbosely, "Going Woke" is the left wing analog of "Red Pilling" is to the right, in the context of 'being made aware of the lies government and society tell you', in this case leading to people converting to the quasi-religion of Intersectional Progressivism, whereas red-pilling leads to the Alt-Right.
Get off the internet DeSantis don't you have a state to finish fricking up now that you've been blown out by Trump?
>Woke
God I can’t stand that fricking buzzword. That word should’ve stayed in the mid 2010s
[...]
Don’t bother, he’s too terminally online to run that dumpster of a state.
>only right wingers use woke
Go watch Jax ending in MK11
Woke means race communism.
No I don't care what it use to mean in the past, the race communists in BLM brought it to the forefront, white commies used it as well to virtue signal, then regular people began seeing all the racism and bigotry is was being used in conjunction with and rightfully began using it as a derogatory term.
You leftoids apologists can gaslight all you like, it doesn't change the fact that Woke is rightfully scorned word and an appropriate descriptor of the mania inherent in leftoids. >Verification not required
Right-Wingers and people who hate liberals/diversity/gays and progressive shit realized calling everything 'SJWs' made them sound moronic so they found a new lazy snarlword to repeat nonstop.
yeah that was when it died. YEARS ago. frickin fasteddie is a real piece of shit.
but the site was never for kids? that's why we had those 'fandom' wiki sites, to keep all the dumb autistic kids off of our real sites. but then they shut down all the other sites because this one was the most popular, and apparently all business runs on the Highlander 'there can be only one' model now.
Oh yeah, that definitely would've gotten scrubbed especially in [current year]+8. I forgot they had a few wild pages like that.
I think tvtropes is how I found out about Topless Robot's Fanfic Fridays too, but don't quote me on that.
Don't think I remembered those if they were ever a thing, I found Fan Fiction Friday just from combing the site after finding the site from their review roasting the Immortals Handbook's encounters. Ah, Until The End of Time. You're the crossover that nobody asked for, especially not Toei, but that everyone needed. Especially Anne Frank.
The last thing I remember about old Tvtropes is that Darth Wiki was always fricking cringe.

For me, it's Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Second Squeakuel. I'm still not the same after reading the extended version of Rectified Anonymity on that site btw.
I honestly don't even remember how bad Darth Wiki was at the time. I know they had the Sugar/Darth thing but I forgot how they were written. I'm probably gonna sound moronic when I say this but was Nightmare Fuel Darth Wiki?

Anonymous
If I'm being honest a lot of my memories of Darth Wiki are fuzz as hell, but yeah it was mostly the
>OMG THE SUN IS A BABY HEAD IT'S NIGHTMARE FUUUUUUEL >Hehe, look at this bad story
overreaction problem. And yes, Nightmare Fuel was kinda folded under Darth Wiki back in the day while Heartwarming went to Sugar Wiki.
Tvtropes 15 years ago was, for better and worse, a little hub of autism and overanalysis. It's why I don't miss it even if it's been overrun by progressives or whatever, and the same reason I avoided Homestuck like the plague. Even my dumb teenage ass knew those people weren't right in the head.
>It's just a wiki
trust me anon, wiki politics can get crazy. Most people only see the neat subject pages and never bother to check out the nonsense it talk or the forums...
I remember it being a fun read back in like 2012 or so. But then they started adding too damn much and too many categories. All of a sudden almost any interaction between two characters in every movie was listed as some kind of named trope, but they only had a couple examples of it happening. So the place was so bloated with nonsense and meaningless entries that it was annoying to try to read.
It’s actually a decent resource for writers. Like this entry detailing how movies and TV show writers often don’t do the research and assume everything across the country works just like California: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Analysis/HollywoodProvincialism
Back when I did look at Tvtropes (when dinosaurs roamed the earth), getting your stuff on there wasn't that hard. It was actually an often commented on problem. Iirc, the most infamous example was a guy who put a bunch of examples from his fic in a bunch of different tropes... but he hadn't written the fic yet. Like, he had a page with a general outline, but no actual prose. So he'd have one of his characters tagged in "Badass Normal" or something, and he'd explain that this dude will totally kick the bad guy's ass despite having no super powers, but then when you tried to find that scene, there'd be nothing. Shit was wild.
Anyway, no idea what it's like now, but as a general rule tropertalk is good for fanspeak, but not for actual writing. You can use it for a starting point, but if you think of your characters as just a pile of tropes, that's how they'll appear to the audience.
There was some crazy ass shit you would only find if you somehow happened to come across it on a tvtropes page. There was a fantastic story with Harry Potter becoming a dark wizard in the alternate history forums, and it was a superb fic.It was super detailed, written over several years by a single guy and somehow had a better closure than the novels. I remember reading it circa 2012, not sure if its still available considering the alternate history forums tend to be delete and ban happy.
it's a god awful typo-every-word trollfic that somehow got a cult following including multiple youtube readings including one from a big youtuber at the time
I was in highschool I didn't expect an intentionally nonsense sbahj-esque shitpost to actually catch on anywhere. Blame Brendaniel for reading it on youtube.
I've only ever written three fanfictions in my life. One was a Transformers fanfic rapidly derailed by the fact that I chose to learn from other Transformers fanfiction writers, and derailed so badly I deleted it with no regrets. The other is a fricking Banepost. And the third was something about Batman I wrote while sleep-deprived.
No, I'm perfectly glad none of my shit will be remembered.
There are basically no genuinely chill places on the internet that aren't private Discord/Skype/whatever groups made of small numbers of people that know each other IRL anymore, or VERY small Steam game groups committed to playing together.
This site, as much of a shitshow as it is and as frequent as the political astroturfing from both sides and corporate shilling/falseflaggin has become, is the most honest place on the internet. And that's fricking depressing.
There was a guy on /tg/ who used to make his own pages for his Primarch Daughter "novels" and advertise them on the TVT forum. If I recall he runs a 1dCinemaphile knockoff now.
No, I just tried to add actual game-relevant information and trivia to the Darkstalkers pages because I feel those games are criminally underrated and want to get people interested in them. But it gets lost in the sea of secondaries wanting to talk about crossovers and how Morrigan is the only character that matters to the point of literally rearranging articles just to put her at the very top.
I used to go to tvtropes as a teen and get sucked in. But now I only use it when I'm writing a fic so I can remember a character's name. As a writer, myself, I just avoid looking at tropes since I think tropes are just for the audience and not creators.
God I hate this stupid b***h. She's the exact example of some college moron who thinks knowing tropes makes them genre savvy and clever and basically just uses it to justify the same handful of crap her douchey millennial brain knows without ever needing to venture outside that frame of reference.
That one was funny considering she has whined about how she doesn't believe in death of the author and how you're a bad person if you don't care about the author's politics.
Then she goes and imposes her own interpretation of King Kong, insisting it's about black people even when Merriam C Cooper repeatedly stated it's about the paradox of human nature being predisposed to exploring and finding wonders and how actually doing so destroys mystery and makes the world less interesting.
I loooved tvtropes as it finally put a name to all the thematic and mechanical elements of a story and it was always fun to see a show broken down and what it utilized.
Never used the notes or communities and I haven't checked back in a long time. Sad to hear it's being ....censored I guess? What kind of stuff is being forbidden?
anything that would get google from not paying their adverts, like porn or e-girl or Chris-Chan. And then any thing not written in third person, any“negativity”, and then “overly tropey” language. Yes, really.
Nah, nothing that sane, more like changing all the puns and fan-term based trope names into more generic boring ones in place of working on moderation tools or the intrusive ads filled with viruses
I mean why would Chris change be named dropped on TV tropes if a piece wasn't directly referring to him? The third person thing makes sense if you want to maintain semi professionalism
One thing about Chris is that he's extremely blacklisted on any website trying to be taken seriously even in the goofy fandom extent. You have to understand that he is now one of the few topics in existence blacklisted on Wikipedia because >A war over his shitty article back in the day >It is increasingly apparent that anything written about him will be written in extreme bias either by trolls or people who feel sorry for him. >any significant site invoking his name risking being pulled into Christory as a result.
When you're on any big documentation site, the gag order around his name now follows. Wikipedia literally avoids his name in their KF article, almost every fandom e-celeb he's ever tried to interact with seems either terrified, instantly blocks him, or both. Everyone knows the stakes involved at this point and avoiding his stuff can't even be called a political bias as much as self-preservation
They deleted anything about e-girl like 10+ years ago and by then I already noticed they had nothing related to Sonichu or Chris-chan, primarily because it would just be stuff about Chris himself.
Whatever this "gone woke" shit is, it's already happened a long time ago, people already b***hed about the mods being too strict
>Whatever this "gone woke" shit is, it's already happened a long time ago, people already b***hed about the mods being too strict
That’s true, the mods seem much more hands off now compared to how they were a while back. Not sure why, maybe just less users meaning less complaining?
I saw this on Twitter and was confused because I'd never seen the thing that it's describing. And now I still haven't, but I've seen the meme itself twice!
They were very controversial but I always liked lurking the Fetish Fuel and Perverse Sexual Lust pages. Great for a laugh and the occasional "thank god i'm not the only one who found that sexy" moments. Shame the latter got purged and the Fetish Fuel wiki was deleted.
After I finish a comic, movie or TV show I'll go look at its TVtropes page. It's basically a ritual at this point. A lot of the lesser known stuff has a pretty informative/entertaining page; my favorites are the ones where it was obviously written by one very dedicated autist.
>Site is definitely not what it used to be
I think it’s better than it was five years ago, so there’s that. But I don’t think it’ll ever be as popular as it was during its heyday.

, just as a way to process details in a movie I just watch and pick up on trivia, context or details I missed. I never took the community that seriously or engaged in shit like the autistic pantheon RP crap so the only thing I've noticed about the site going progressive or whatever is that suddenly people are much, much, much less keen on actually criticising media.
But like I said, it doesn't affect me any because I just use it as a trivia sieve anyway.
TV tropes was just as bad as blob guy to start with. Most trope pages are just long lists of fanboys trying to find any excuse to lose the object of their fandom under EVERY SINGLE TROPE POSSIBLE often for the most tenuous reason or even when they don't do something just so they can call it a subversion. More over they don't actually go over story telling elements. They just grab any and all patterns they can find no matter how insignificant. A character or series can't do anything anymore without it being a trope. Sites like this and the cinemasins morons have been nothing short of a cancerous influence on an entire generation of dull witted, irony obsessed, wannabe genre savvy hacks.
Because the internet is full of moron copy cats. Always has been. Any time anyone gets slightly famous doing anything there's going to be a hundred copy cats or imposters.
Holy frick really? I haven't even been on that site in well over a decade, before the brony trend, and I already hated it then. It's hard to imagine it being even worse now.
>well over a decade, before the brony trend
Anon... the brony trend started 14 years ago. Most of those MLP entries under every trope must be during their height in like 2012. Fricking everyone talking about cartoons back then were a horsefricker at least once, including Mysterious Mr Enter and Lily Orchard
I was around to watch the entire thing unfold and I still have no god damned idea how MLP got so popular. I even gave the first episode a try just to see what all the fuss was about and thought it was an ok kid's show. It certainly wasn't the best cartoon on air at the time, though, it's almost like everyone just kind of got swept up in the novelty of it.
It was definitely the fanbase just snowballing into the public eye. Cinemaphile leaking onto /b/, /b/tards trying to annoy each other, and the most sound explanation I've seen is that Equestria Daily would find fanart and promote it on their site which would cause more exposure for the artists and more art and so on
I dont know about specific shows, but I often got the feeling there was a general issue of people trying to make works fit into a trope it does not actually match just to list more shit.
>God I hope so they place single handedly ruined all discussion of stories of any medium on the internet.
It's healed over time. People aren't as trope obsessed as they were back when tv tropes was actually relevant.
>God I hope so they place single handedly ruined all discussion of stories of any medium on the internet.

What's wrong with talking about tropes? I do it a bunch
>autists who only talk about films through the lens of tropes don't have critical thinking, correct >"hey, ever noticed X happens a lot in movies?" >"oh yeah, i saw X happen in TV too"
thats a fairly innocuous exchange and says absolutely nothing about the presence or lack of thinking skills

>>"hey, ever noticed X happens a lot in movies?" >>"oh yeah, i saw X happen in TV too"
People don't normally talk like this when they're being critical. People who are critical often look into the context surrounding thing stuff and that's the difference. Tropers are trained to ignore context. They focus on the pattern not the cause.

>People don't normally talk like this when they're being critical.
its just people noticing things after spending a lot of time watching things
this is not inherently bad and its pretty inevitable for anyone who watches more than a handful of shows
> People who are critical often look into the context surrounding thing stuff and that's the difference.
and how does this make a bunch of people deciding to write down stuff they noticed happening over a period of watching shows uncritical
>Tropers are trained to ignore context. They focus on the pattern not the cause.
its literally just people having a bit of fun after the fifth time someone plays "bad to the bone" the second a badass character shows up
they know exactly why its done, its just amusing to point out how many people do it

>its literally just people having a bit of fun
No it's not. Not when you have moronic youtubers trying to act like media critics and try to push this shit off in an educational light.
The issue isn't discussing tropes themselves, it's becoming too infatuated with the concept and letting it dominate the way in which you consume and discuss media. Ironically tv tropes itself had a page dedicated to a criticizing one of the consequences of the "troper mentality" in their square peg round trope page.
It's one of those things where it becomes so convenient a shorthand for discussing media that people start to get lazy and overly conceited in the way they engage in such discussions. It wasn't terribly uncommon in tv trope's heyday to see people who thought they were master writers because they spent way too much time browsing tropes on the site.
TV Tropes I find is a much more useful resource than Wikipedia for finding out about a show or movie I haven't watched. Wikipiedia episode guides in particular have become completely useless because they just vomit out information about what happens in every episode instead of telling you what the main storylines of the episode are.
With a list of tropes I can usually get a sense of what the important plot or thematic points are.
The problem with the term “woke” is that boomers started using it for everything they didn’t like. They have brain worms so they assume it fits into their “red party good” mindset when what people really hate is self-righteous people telling them how to live and what to think.
>channel awesome
I don't understand what anyone likes about any of that stuff, never mind making it a cornerstone of an entire website. Doug is an actual moron who can't think in any other way besides references and the rest of them are just as bad, it makes absolutely no sense for them to be held up as any kind of standard for anything.
It's really only down to the simple fact that the Nostalgia Critic and Channel Awesome were the first to do it on Youtube. They were first, so they got the fame.
It's certainly not because they're good, interesting, or intelligent critics.
TV Tropes page quotes come in six flavors:
1. Channel Awesome
2. Yahtzee Croshaw
3. Yu-Gi-Oh/DBZ: the Abridged Series
4. Doctor Who
5. Whedonverse
6. Obscure webcomics/fanfiction
TVtropes users were always insane. I mean its inevitable when your enjoyment of media comes from categorizing and comparing every little fricking individual piece of some media.
Tv tropes is meta as frick that's why I like, it finally started to consolidate patterns and themes in a way similar to how zoomers cam to the conclusions of Chad's simps and incels
>Be old enough that TV tropes was the cringe shit that people younger than me was doing >Now they're waxing poetically about how the people younger than them don't do that anymore and instead do some other cringe shit instead
Same as it ever was.
I still use it to get info on some things wikipedia doesnt have. I read a lot of online fiction and sometimes i want more info. Wikipedia may not even have a page on it but tvtropes might have limited information.
TVTropes entries on music and bands (especially 60s and 70s bands like the Beatles, Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac) are surprisingly thorough and well-researched
You can learn a lot of lore and trivia that Wikipedia tends to omit because 'muh fancruft'
Tvtropes is only le bad if you're trying to jerk off or find anime sources to fuel your neo nazi phase. >guh tvtropes is shit now, there's no page about boku no pico vividly describing how CP is vital to an aryan nation
Classic names kept changing, Really 700 Years Old, The Cheryl Blossom, SNK Boss to something bland. Things like Damsel in Distress or Ms Fanservice seem to get smaller every year because someone does not want their characters seen that way.
I just go there for gacha game character summaries and occasionally convoluted shit like comics so that I don't need javascript like for fandom wikias.
I certainly don't, TV Tropes went woke and began deleting large swarths of content because it's too "problematic".
tvtropes has content? i thought it was just a list of shows and their tropes
There's also "Useful Notes" pages for just about any real-world topic you can think of
It is a good resource about laws and customs between different regions and how this is often not taken into account in fiction.
>TFwiki is slowly going the same way because Britgays have secured their hold over it and begun purging jokes and shit.
Jesus Christ, how horrible to be part of the Nu-Empire.
>IDW crashing and burning made the Britbong/Weaboo G1 war go from "eh nobody *really* cares" to the bongtards losing their fricking minds as their Dr.Who based tumblr infection hit critical mass and randomly decided to start slanting the frick out of everything and scrubbing jokes and horny shit because the weebtards liked them, basically.
what?
The UK side of the tf fandom is such cancer. But our country is responsible for Walky and he infected tfwiki from the start.
Yep the wiki has been shit for over a decade now.
>Britgays
>Britbong/Weaboo G1 war
?
It's not too complicated though calling it a war gives it too much credit. It's more the Marvel UK gays chimping out for some reason while the weebs kind of ignore them. Nobody knows why. Best guess is because a lot of the big name ones worked for IDW and IDW doesn't get to do TF shit anymore but nobody actually *knows*.
wasn't aware anybody but Willis ever edits tfwiki
Nobody should be using it as a writing resource aside from like, a place to check for other examples of a genre .
god those were teh days.
remember when it proudly advertised that it was a buttload less informal than the other wiki
>Tfwiki
but tfwiki was already getting scrubbed by the increasingly wokenheimer Walky and his pals.
Of course that was the tip of the iceberg of the tfwiki
there’s this pantheon thing where its this massive autistic crossover with everything. Like theres factions and worlds and shit
heres one example
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Pantheon/Nature
what
its a giant fantasy world where characters you know are deities thats the basic gist.
>every single one of these houses has subcategories
I sincerely want to know if anybody outside of the people writing these pages gives a shit about them. This is like those extremely autistic crossover fanon wikis.
It quite literally is,
there is flavor text for alot of them too
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Pantheon/TimeAndTemporality

there was even more of this but they cut out them out, also theres a website on WordPress
>theres entire worldbuidlng on a site where people document cliches
what have I stumbled upon
Autism.
post what you can find
>For the record, C. Montgomery Burns is banned from this House for his anti-environmental activities and his threats against the House in general. Nitros Oxide is also banned from this House for his wandering throughout the galaxy to turn planets into parking lots. And the same goes for the Grineer after their attempted siege to the House back when it was still merged with the House of Plants. Judging by the barking done by Councillor Vay Hek their campaign in the House isn't finished yet and have simply allocated their focus to other subjects of intetest. There's also been some talks about banning Lisa Simpson from here as well after she threw red paint all over Bianca for her supposed "animal cruelty" and has threatened to do the same to other Mon trainers for the same reasons.
Also, it happens to be really appealing to autist.
There's a reason once upon a time the longest piece of literature was a Brawl fanfic.
Swarth?
Like what?
Remember when they had a page for Monster Girl Quest?
They had to lock the mad max fury road page, because the YMMV pointed out the radfem characters were pieces of shit and feminazi editors got assmad
>radfem characters
I really feel like I watched a different movie than direction-brained morons
I remember them protecting the Ralph Breaks the Internet pages for a while until giving up when it became apparent nobody liked how they handled Vannelope.
They're just another example of a website that refuses to accept any negative criticism towards the publishers. It's like dealing with Reddit where people will post collections of the worst comics imaginable and at best you need to pretend it's a "Cult following."
Funny because they say just about everything now has a "cult following". Apparently there just can't be any piece of media that's a flop
>bans you for misgendering
>bans you for criticizing blacks
>bans you for interpreting Republicans in any way that isn't hillbilly nazis
It's your typical normie website with tyrannical Troon mods, like take a wild guess
tv tropes went woke a long ass time ago, I remember there's always been a lot of fricking drama for no good reason regarding the novel e-girlta.
Though honestly I think what really killed the site was a cascade of shit:
>tv tropes starts getting a really shitty reputation thanks to troper tales readings gaining popularity on youtube
>in addition to scrubbing troper tales, the whole site starts getting waxed over with anything problematic getting removed
>tropes start getting more generic as well, anything too referential starts getting more generic titles (sometimes for better, sometimes for worse)
and just the site being a massive circlejerk for certain fanbases that try to shove every god damned trope on the site into whatever they're fans of just kind of killed a lot of the fun in browsing random pages.
I visited the complete monster thread, a cesspit of autism in its own right, and they were recently seething big time because a cross-dressing serial killer from a JK Rowling book got proposed
its a tragedy what happened to the site's culture. it was such a delight browsing it for hours in my younger days.
If TVtropes was your younger years you're still an infant
obtuse moron.
TVTropes used to be fun until it got attracted more attention and got ruined by outsiders coming in and taking over. Just like the original Jump the Shark site and the SCP site.
>certain fanbases that try to shove every god damned trope on the site into whatever they're fans of
I'll get drunk in a few minutes if I took a swig every time Bionicle shows up on any trope page.
>woke
What does this even mean? I've never heard this nonsense until right wingers started b***hing about it.
originally: as a black person, being aware of the political and social dangers facing you in American society
more recently, depending on who you ask: a progressive mindset for a variety of social issues, or literally the devil
I haven't hear any black person or left-leaning person use it unironically in years.
yep it's just complaining about blacks and gays, that's all.
Yeah
I don't give a shit about superficial liberal pandering, go wait for June to seethe nonstop about that
then don't bring it up, you dumb Black person.
Racism? I bet you're a demowokrecrat...
you're not fooling anyone you dumb shit.
>guh nobody uses woke anymore that's just some those trumptards moan about
As far as I'm concerned all of Star Wars is gay shit
still not fooling anyone.
Not memes and twitter posts!
>stop noticing things
can someone please explain to me what the frick "empowering" means? They use this to refer to literally everything
It's just a buzz word so leftists and other homosexuals can clap like seals.
Corps have trained them well to buy their shit on command
This is only one of the six million definitions of woke, I'm sure glad it made Desantis win the election
>yep it's just complaining about blacks and gays, that's all.
Blacks, gays, women, Hispanics...anything that gets wingtard's panties in a knot.
>whats dis woke I dont see it
I hate those fricking clowns trying toruin every bit of entertainment I consume.
Woke is a good example of Chef's "In the House" monologue in South Park
case in point.
It will never cease to amaze me how much libhomosexuals will rewrite history and blind themselves to reality.
Do you live in a cave anon ?
If you don't spend every moment of your life consuming manufactured outrage from network news, or seeking it out yourself on social media, it's actually very probable that you haven't heard the term "woke" used in any significant way, or if you did, you just ignored it because "woke" is just a regular word.
Most mentally-healthy humans are not embroiled in this shallow cesspool of a culture war
Woke:Leftists::Red-Pilled:Rightists
Bad evil progressivism. How much of progressivism this actually encompasses slides back and forth depending on where the rhetorical focus is.
Ask Microsoft. That should give you an idea what "woke" is.
Right here and now that's what it is. I believe it. MS has been regarded as evil for decades. For various reasons.
its just the modern for sjw since that went out of use. are you living under the rock?
>only right wingers use woke
Go watch Jax ending in MK11
nu-left regime propaganda
Woke means race communism.
No I don't care what it use to mean in the past, the race communists in BLM brought it to the forefront, white commies used it as well to virtue signal, then regular people began seeing all the racism and bigotry is was being used in conjunction with and rightfully began using it as a derogatory term.
You leftoids apologists can gaslight all you like, it doesn't change the fact that Woke is rightfully scorned word and an appropriate descriptor of the mania inherent in leftoids.
>Verification not required
Woke is just a buzzword co-opted by buttholes to describe things they don't like, you're thinking far too much about it.
Shut up moron
>"now" is 2014
lmao
Cracked now is just another dead SEO clickbait farm, no different than CBR or Screenrant
How can something be both a buzzword and cooped homosexual? You morons want to have your cum and eat it too.
>stop thinking
No.
>race communism
Kek. I don't even want to know what this is supposed to mean, it's perfect.
Right-Wingers and people who hate liberals/diversity/gays and progressive shit realized calling everything 'SJWs' made them sound moronic so they found a new lazy snarlword to repeat nonstop.
>muh right wingers
Lol, the opposite of woke is normality.
Woke = invasive inclusion of extreme modern leftist tropes and talking points.
It's not difficult.

Get off the internet DeSantis don't you have a state to finish fricking up now that you've been blown out by Trump?
yeah that was when it died. YEARS ago. frickin fasteddie is a real piece of shit.
but the site was never for kids? that's why we had those 'fandom' wiki sites, to keep all the dumb autistic kids off of our real sites. but then they shut down all the other sites because this one was the most popular, and apparently all business runs on the Highlander 'there can be only one' model now.
I used tv tropes to find anime with hot chicks
>Buxom is Better
An interesting time in my puberty to be reading that page, for sure.
For me, it was Rape As Drama. They can scrub and sanitise that page all they like, I got what I wanted lmao
If I'm being honest a lot of my memories of Darth Wiki are fuzz as hell, but yeah it was mostly the
>OMG THE SUN IS A BABY HEAD IT'S NIGHTMARE FUUUUUUEL
>Hehe, look at this bad story
overreaction problem.
>Woke
God I can’t stand that fricking buzzword. That word should’ve stayed in the mid 2010s
Don’t bother, he’s too terminally online to run that dumpster of a state.
They self censor because of advertisers, the cowards
They have a page for mein kampf
Pant shot examples, radar pages and other things for being too inappropriate even though a trope is supposed to point out things like that
It's just like Wikipedia. Gotta archive as much of the internet as you can before this stuff gets overwritten with bullshit.
>woke
How? It’s just a wiki for tropes
>It's just a wiki
trust me anon, wiki politics can get crazy. Most people only see the neat subject pages and never bother to check out the nonsense it talk or the forums...
>trope
>values dissonance
Checkmate Chud
I remember it being a fun read back in like 2012 or so. But then they started adding too damn much and too many categories. All of a sudden almost any interaction between two characters in every movie was listed as some kind of named trope, but they only had a couple examples of it happening. So the place was so bloated with nonsense and meaningless entries that it was annoying to try to read.
Don't forget people adding things that didn't happen in a show/movie/whatever so they can go "AVERTED"
.. like frick off with that shit man.
On top of that, gays being critical of shows/movies because they had tropes at all.
It’s actually a decent resource for writers. Like this entry detailing how movies and TV show writers often don’t do the research and assume everything across the country works just like California: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Analysis/HollywoodProvincialism
Be honest, Cinemaphile:
You used to be a fanfic writer, and one of your longstanding ambitions was for one of your fanfics to get its own TVTropes page. Isn't that right?
Yes.
>used to be
I wrote a fanfic like six months ago
I am right now.
No, it was never on my mind but now it is because of you.
Also:
Go frick yourself for planting that seed in my brain now!
Holy autism
I bet my body and soul he's doing ai art now
There was some crazy ass shit you would only find if you somehow happened to come across it on a tvtropes page. There was a fantastic story with Harry Potter becoming a dark wizard in the alternate history forums, and it was a superb fic.It was super detailed, written over several years by a single guy and somehow had a better closure than the novels. I remember reading it circa 2012, not sure if its still available considering the alternate history forums tend to be delete and ban happy.
tell me more, what else do you remember
My fanfic did get a TVTropes page.
it's a god awful typo-every-word trollfic that somehow got a cult following including multiple youtube readings including one from a big youtuber at the time
Are you Ebony Darkness Raven Way
I wish.
In actuality, this is the article: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Fanfic/DaveStdiderPokemonTraner
Holy shit, I remember this fic back when I was into Homestuck. Funny running into the author here of all places
Its not exactly a great claim to fame but I'm glad to an extent people still remember it to this day. Truly my magnum opus.
It sounds way less impressive than you make it out when it turns out you're just trying to imitate SBAHJ.
I was in highschool I didn't expect an intentionally nonsense sbahj-esque shitpost to actually catch on anywhere. Blame Brendaniel for reading it on youtube.
Yeah.
I didn't even know this was a thing lol, now I hope someone puts mine there
Nope
There was a guy on /tg/ who used to make his own pages for his Primarch Daughter "novels" and advertise them on the TVT forum. If I recall he runs a 1dCinemaphile knockoff now.
No, I just tried to add actual game-relevant information and trivia to the Darkstalkers pages because I feel those games are criminally underrated and want to get people interested in them. But it gets lost in the sea of secondaries wanting to talk about crossovers and how Morrigan is the only character that matters to the point of literally rearranging articles just to put her at the very top.
I'm a former fanfic writer and I'm still on TVTropes, last I checked.
I didn't even know it existed.
Wow, even your dreams are small.
The ambition was to get a famous enough webcomic, obviously.
Mine did.
90% of the fanfic pages on tvtropes were made by the authors.
I have never read or written fanfic in my life
No. I've never understood fanfiction.Just make your own world. Let the shit you like inspire you.
>TFW you still write fanfiction to this day and several of your fics actually do have TVtropes pages
I hate that that was one of my goals back in high school, goddamn.
No. What I want is total fricking randoms drawing fanart and lewds of my fanfic spreading awareness of it by word of draw
It's currently having a meltdown because Fighteer us a mod again literally no one wanting him back.
It's a very old website, of course zoomers don't know it exists
I used to go to tvtropes as a teen and get sucked in. But now I only use it when I'm writing a fic so I can remember a character's name. As a writer, myself, I just avoid looking at tropes since I think tropes are just for the audience and not creators.
I don't go to TV tropes, I just let her read it for me
A friend recommended this channel to me and I have never knew Superman had so many stans. Good on them, at least they know the substance of the Clark.
God I hate this stupid b***h. She's the exact example of some college moron who thinks knowing tropes makes them genre savvy and clever and basically just uses it to justify the same handful of crap her douchey millennial brain knows without ever needing to venture outside that frame of reference.
I have a crush on Red. I know it's cringe but it's kinda true.
Or at least she seems like exactly the type I'd develop a crush on irl if I knew her.
Same guy from /aco/?
I hate how she always has the most surface level opinion of everything, she is a prime example of someone who outsources her thinking to the crowd.
remember, king kong is a Black person
That one was funny considering she has whined about how she doesn't believe in death of the author and how you're a bad person if you don't care about the author's politics.
Then she goes and imposes her own interpretation of King Kong, insisting it's about black people even when Merriam C Cooper repeatedly stated it's about the paradox of human nature being predisposed to exploring and finding wonders and how actually doing so destroys mystery and makes the world less interesting.
also, he really liked great apes
Does she have fans that draw porn?
Yes
she definitely the type of persone that spend to much time in tvtopes .
>this b***h
>EVERY GREEK MYTH IS ABOUT HOMKSEX
weird how much of a fujo an asexual is.
I mean Asexuals aren't real so are you really surprised someone lying for clout would lie for clout?
WHEN MONKEY KING?
I still use TVTropes
Same.
I like reading the trivia on movies I just watched, it helps pass the time
I loooved tvtropes as it finally put a name to all the thematic and mechanical elements of a story and it was always fun to see a show broken down and what it utilized.
>“overly tropey” language
I mean the insular terms do get annoying, having to constantly remember what "wick" and "pothole" and shit means is a pain
As in they specifically axed the Sonichu page, disavowing it had anything "trope worthy"
One thing about Chris is that he's extremely blacklisted on any website trying to be taken seriously even in the goofy fandom extent. You have to understand that he is now one of the few topics in existence blacklisted on Wikipedia because
>A war over his shitty article back in the day
>It is increasingly apparent that anything written about him will be written in extreme bias either by trolls or people who feel sorry for him.
>any significant site invoking his name risking being pulled into Christory as a result.
Tvtropes is amazing you should go there and check out the site immediately its pretty cool and only takes a few seconds
Yeah it’s just a nice way to help process whatever I just consumed. Site is definitely not what it used to be
>Site is definitely not what it used to be
I think it’s better than it was five years ago, so there’s that. But I don’t think it’ll ever be as popular as it was during its heyday.
Personally I always used the site like
, just as a way to process details in a movie I just watch and pick up on trivia, context or details I missed.
Do trope pages get updates anymore?
Seems to be the same examples on the list for years with nothing new
I like it as it currently is. It being less well known in Current Year has made the site better.
I find the "am i the only one who noticed this" format obnoxious too, but there is no fricking way tvtropes is in position to criticize anyone lmao
If anything like Troper Tales comes around again, I’m cutting down the internet.
I heard a rumor that CrazyGoggs was THE Clyde Cash of Chris-Chan fame.
The woman rapist page really activates the almonds
Wiki is another thing homosexuals ruined everyone including children are gay
>The woman rapist page really activates the almonds
Which one?
This one I assume https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale
Kids don't read, they watch 7 hours of YouTube essays on 4x speed
Bah, when I was a kid I spent all my time on Wookieepedia and StarWars.com (which is fricking unusable now btw)
Cool it with the anti-semitic remarks.
I don't why this gets me so bad. I guess I just love the stupid idea of a guy regularly pointing at his nose to reassure you that he indeed has one.
I hope so. The site lost its way and its point sometime in 2008.
I have never met a single person who was aware of TV Tropes existence that wasn't unbearably annoying to be around, myself included.
Zombo.com!
>Kids don't go on TV Tropes anymore
maybe the zoomoids aren't so bad after all
So what's up with All the Tropes, I thought that was supposed to be the TVtropes replacement for people who got mad at the changes
It still exists, people just don't care about it now
Barely anyone cares about any of the numerous TVT ripoffs after the initial seethe that led to their creation wears off.
>little white guy blobs
>"cal-arts" for for Zoomers and Gen-Alpha
Thank frick I wasn't the only one who noticed this.
Burgers?
TV Tropes was stupid since it's inception. "Let's take every single tiny little thing and give a name to it!"
I never went on TV tropes when I watched TV because I'm not a gay. And I'm older than the existence of the internet.
I hope so, frick that place with their awful editorial standards, incredibly unfunny inside jokes and obsession with garbage like TGWTG.
I get annoyed when their character pages stop describing the character, and start listing story tropes they were involved in once.
Why are there so many Sam O'Nella clones now?
Because the internet is full of moron copy cats. Always has been. Any time anyone gets slightly famous doing anything there's going to be a hundred copy cats or imposters.
This is a feature of capitalism
If someone is selling apples, you also sell apples but for less and of lower quality
because sam stopped making videos forever
He's posted several videos since he returned a few months ago. I think his latest was last week or something.
They're Sam O'Nella Academy Alumni
The worst thing about TV Tropes was that the western animation segments were almost always half MLP autistic mini-essays
MLP and Homestuck were probably the two biggest scourges on the site.
TVtropes is peak autism even beyond deviantart.
The only thing zoomie kids do is watch airport fights on tiktok and cut their dicks off
Jokes on dad, sticky drink all over his car.
*pays 20 bucks to the car warsh kid*
a well god damn use of my income son
would
>is tvtropes dead?
God I hope so they place single handedly ruined all discussion of stories of any medium on the internet.
>God I hope so they place single handedly ruined all discussion of stories of any medium on the internet.
It's healed over time. People aren't as trope obsessed as they were back when tv tropes was actually relevant.
That’s true. It’s less popular now but it’s much better as a wiki.
It’s tried society is all about lore and serials now.
If it isn’t constantly advancing an ongoing narrative it’s completely worthless
What's wrong with talking about tropes? I do it a bunch
moronic autists use them as a replacement for actual critical thinking. The Cinema Sins of film criticism.
Tropes make it easy to break down works a lot and into easily understandable pieces
which is why it's appealing to autists, yes
autists who only talk about films through the lens of tropes don't have critical thinking, correct
>autists who only talk about films through the lens of tropes don't have critical thinking, correct
>"hey, ever noticed X happens a lot in movies?"
>"oh yeah, i saw X happen in TV too"
thats a fairly innocuous exchange and says absolutely nothing about the presence or lack of thinking skills
>>"hey, ever noticed X happens a lot in movies?"
>>"oh yeah, i saw X happen in TV too"
People don't normally talk like this when they're being critical.
Not when you have moronic youtubers trying to act like media critics and try to push this shit off in an educational light.
>making a list of repeating patterns in movies suddenly means you have no critical thinking
The Trope Pantheon is the most autistic thing i’ve ever read the entirety of, excepr maybe Sonichu or Tails Gets Trolled
Obligatory
Jesus christ, spoiler that shit
>Harsher in Hindsight
TV Tropes I find is a much more useful resource than Wikipedia for finding out about a show or movie I haven't watched. Wikipiedia episode guides in particular have become completely useless because they just vomit out information about what happens in every episode instead of telling you what the main storylines of the episode are.
With a list of tropes I can usually get a sense of what the important plot or thematic points are.
Diagnosed by the Audience: Yes.
So they're doing what kids did in the 90s
false
The problem with the term “woke” is that boomers started using it for everything they didn’t like. They have brain worms so they assume it fits into their “red party good” mindset when what people really hate is self-righteous people telling them how to live and what to think.
anon watch out the boomers are in your room RIGHT NOW
Nah his parents are probably asleep in the next room still.
Don’t be obtuse.
learn a new word today, anon?
>blacks start using the word unironically
>everyone makes fun of you
>no, you must stop!
>like half the pages have a quote from a channel awesome reviewer at the top of it
>the other half are dr who quotes
For me, it's the trope quotes where they've just quoted some utterly random and obscure fanfic or defunct webcomic that no one cares about
Also really dumb when those obscure web comics are the page images too despite iconic examples existing
>channel awesome
Yahtzee is based
Censorship and sanitization is a good thing
He doesn't seem to care about any game that isn't a point-and-click adventure.
Point and click was the pinnacle of gaming
>Yahtzee is based
No he isn't he's a moronic normalgay who sucks at vidya
Yahtzee is a monumental moron
It went mega woke with troony mods taking over and turned to shit
This is a good thing. Less kids means less whining about things being problematic that they don't fricking get.
It's not even true. Kids mostly just post little videos and giggle at other idiots on instagram/tiktok.
ive been to tv tropes twice and both times i thought the site was pretty dumb
TVtropes users were always insane. I mean its inevitable when your enjoyment of media comes from categorizing and comparing every little fricking individual piece of some media.
We can only hope.
Tv tropes is meta as frick that's why I like, it finally started to consolidate patterns and themes in a way similar to how zoomers cam to the conclusions of Chad's simps and incels
yes, we already know TV Tropes appeals to the autistic
The tv tropes author appeal page is just a compilation of gross fetishes of obscure writers
I hate white blob comics, seeing one of these makes me wish to punch the author in the face
>Be old enough that TV tropes was the cringe shit that people younger than me was doing
>Now they're waxing poetically about how the people younger than them don't do that anymore and instead do some other cringe shit instead
Tvtropes is only le bad if you're trying to jerk off or find anime sources to fuel your neo nazi phase.
>guh tvtropes is shit now, there's no page about boku no pico vividly describing how CP is vital to an aryan nation
tvtropes was always bad, but now it's also been sanitized so it's bad+
Only trannies on discord and lefty Twitter goon to cp.
>let us into your schools so we can groom your kids
>goon
troony
>called tvtropes
>advertising
>anime
>comics
>fan fics
>video games
Uhm its TV tropes not all this gay shit?
anime is TV though
If it requires you to read, the kids aren't going there. Anything that can't be explained in a 2min short is ignored by kids.
I don't think adults go there either. I mean what do you gain from it?
What the frick does tvtropes have to do with that shitty meme format? Frick off you bunch of overgrown wiki mod rejects.
What ever happened to those hilarious This Troper videos?
Classic names kept changing, Really 700 Years Old, The Cheryl Blossom, SNK Boss to something bland. Things like Damsel in Distress or Ms Fanservice seem to get smaller every year because someone does not want their characters seen that way.
I just go there for gacha game character summaries and occasionally convoluted shit like comics so that I don't need javascript like for fandom wikias.
>is tvtropes dead?
I hope so.
>This episode of that cartoon you watched as a kid was WAY DARKER than you thought!!!
