They actually did it pretty realistically in the show. Getting your heart vaporized would cause an instant loss of blood pressure in the brain, which would cause unconsciousness in a few seconds as the oxygen there is used up. Actual death would take a few minutes though, since brain cells don't die immediately when deprived of oxygen.
I think the only times it gets a direct reference throughout the entire third season is showing it from Sasha's point of view in turning point and the joke they make about it in the episode they go back to Amphibia

When she does get back, the first thing Sasha tells her is Marcy is alive and she lets out a huge sigh ("Oh, thank goodness!"). She wasn't actually sure; she was just hoping.

This could have been a great way to remind the audience about the imperative for Anne to get back to Amphibia after it's spent some time on Earth (a small amount of which is not a bad idea). Anne would blanch at her mom's joke as the fear and horror of seeing Marcy's impalement rushes back. Her mom is suddenly worried at this strange responce to a silly joke but Anne brushes it off...reinforcing the plotline about her not being totally honest with her parents. Then when the other shoe drops and she does spill the beans, her motivation to help a friend should be mentioned, which her parents respect.
Both sasha and Anne impale frobots later on, it seems they wanted to see what it feels like. They probably thought it was marcy who they were stabbing and they liked it.

My interest in the show began because of Sasha, it was a bit tedious to wait so long for her episodes.

Yeah, as the story goes there isn't really a chance for them to get their powers back any earlier that they did in the show.
You would have to change a lot of S3 to make it work, but I could see Sasha getting her powers protecting Wartwood before Anne arrives and Marcy hers by overpowering the core and freeing herself.
Those would have been perfect times for things to kick off.
Now that I think about it, why did they had the girls loose her powers, you could argue that it was so they couldn't instantly win right away but the powers where so inconsistent that its not like they could have used them well anyway. They way they had them in the show felt almost like an afterthought, like they remembered the girls where suppose to get powers but by that moment the whole story was already done so they add them at the tailend of the show.

I'm perfectly okay with Sasha and Marcy not getting to have calamity powers until the end. We didn't even get to see Anne use her powers that much in-between True Colors and the final two episodes. She used her powers like 7 or 8 times the entire show. I don't think getting to see Sasha or Marcy use them more would have really added to the story

I know you guys are not that great in catching subtle but that did happen, when valeriana asked them to think about what amphibia meant to them to tune into the gems, but i agree that could have been a bit more obvious like showing a bit of flashback or even just dialogs from past episodes to show it.
