I think it's a great sci fi. Just because it has religious themes doesn't mean it can't be science fiction. Especially since Norah's explanation for it makes it out to be a natural phenomenon that humans don't have a way of explaining right now.
But it’s not discussing any actually interesting scifi ideas past the initial event. You could have had Buddha appear in the sky, or Jesus drop a nuke on the world, and it would have had the same effect. It’s not a show about speculative science, it’s a show about humans dealing with their mortality. It’s a drama.

It's got some great kino scenes but mostly average and somewhat stretches too long. They also go off the rails with what was supposed to be a simple plot.
The priest arc is one of the best on TV and I'd recommend the show just for that.
season 1 is almost bad because of the amount of teen drama cringe but the cool stuff makes up for it
season 2 is kino start to finish
season 3 is just okay, kino here and there
