impressive, I didn't know american babies can fend for themselves at only 6 weeks old

1 year olds can't fend for themselves, either. Maternity leave is mostly about giving the mother time to recover and get things set up at home, so it's normal for employers to give 6-8 weeks of maternity leave with most usually going for 6. That's if the company offers maternity leave, of course.

>get things set up at home
what takes 6 weeks to "set up at home"?
she's already had 9 months of knowing the baby is on the way

Making sure the baby is healthy and coordinating care for when the parents are both at work.

It’s to spend bonding time with the baby. Also, it’s hell for awhile when the baby doesn’t have a sleep pattern established.

In the Great US of A if can't handle a gun and defend yourself at 3 weeks old you're throw to the pits (as in the dog not some hole).
>What is job security
You need to work in less shit jobs mate. If you're easily replaced or they don't like you and are looking for an excuse to get rid of you then sure. Maybe people just don't like you. But in most jobs they give you time off to have a kid, and then you get your job back because first world countries have standards. Not counting the US because it's not a first world country. They don't even offer paid leave.

>Not counting the US because it's not a first world country. They don't even offer paid leave.
What's with Europeans thinking that if the government doesn't mandate something it doesn't exist? Companies offer paid maternity leave here because no one would work for a company that doesn't.
>manage without you for over a year
it might surprise you to learn that companies which offer long maternity leave do in fact have strategies for how to handle the employee's absence. they also have the better part of a year to get ready for it because, you know, pregnancy takes 9 months to run its course unlike someone just suddenly quitting or whatever.
thank you for showing me that this is an opinion that people can actually have
and as a side note, it is much more profitable for a company to have maternity leave than to just fire the pregnant workers even in the US
>Doesn't know how Maternity Leave works. >Still acts like he does and spouts shit.
Are you American by any chance? Only asking because they don't have maternity leave so it'd make sense you don't know how it works. Maternity Leave is for expectant mothers. You take that shit shortly before the baby is due. They don't want you shitting your mucus plug and spilling your 'water' when it breaks all over your workplace. That shit is gross.
>If you actually read the thread instead of knee-jerk replying like a moron you'd know the answer to this.
How does reading the thread let me know which anonymous poster you are to determine your country moron I'm not psychic.

Mat leave is taken before the baby is due, but paid leave kicks in once the baby is born. Usually.

>can't abort baby >but also can't get paid time off to raise baby either
What the hell is wrong with America?
All companies offer at least 6 weeks of paid maternity leave, those graphs are intentionally misleading propaganda that imply the federal government not mandating it means no one gets it. It would be like saying no one goes to the doctor just because we don't have universal healthcare, which would be an absurd thing to suggest.
>which would be an absurd thing to suggest.
Which is why it's exactly what thirdies love to repeat verbatim while they wait in 8 month queues to see the doctor about a toothache
>What the hell is wrong with America?
Have kid or kill kid either way america makes money off your suffering.
The system isn't broken, it's functioning as intended. You're just not at the top of it.

>Corpos have your interest at heart even though the gov don't mandate standards.
Sure anon, I'm sure every single company in the US offers free maternity leave for all employees and won't fire them or replace them or frick them over if they take the option. I'm sure all corporations are just such good families they'd look after their own and never mistreat their employees at all. The only reason companies offer it is if they have a financial incentive to do so. Same for your healthcare.
>which would be an absurd thing to suggest.

You really think countries with free healthcare have shit services because it's 'free' ie taxpayer funded? We have public and private healthcare and the option to pick. You guys don't. You're getting shafted and you're too stubborn to admit it's a raw deal.
https://www.eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/legal-rights-pregnant-workers-under-federal-law >If you are pregnant, have been pregnant, or may become pregnant, and if your employer has 15 or more employees, you are protected against pregnancy-based discrimination and harassment at work under federal law. >In general, this means that you cannot be fired, rejected for a job or promotion, given lesser assignments, or forced to take leave for any of these reasons.
Why do Europeans think the US literally has zero laws related to workers' rights?
Obviously they're not going to tell you that you're fired because you had a baby you dumb frick. They find workarounds and loopholes for that shit like giving you bad hours or a shitty task when you come back or frick around with your schedule and cite 'differences' when you refuse to work weekends or some shit. Or they just force you to take unpaid leave which drains your savings and fricks you over. Read between the fricking lines when people are discussing this shit. In a country as litigious as the US and as corporate run there are people whose entire job is to figure out how to frick the workforce and keep the company free of damage or bad PR. You think just because a handful of fortune 400 companies give maternity leave that the rest of the country isn't a fricking shitshow? Learn to look outside your bubble or stop blindly defending your country when it's mostly designed to suck the value from your labour and reward you with an early grave.
Also not even counting this fact you neglected to mention >This document was issued prior to enactment of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), which took effect on June 27, 2023
These rights came into play about 4 months ago. Fantastic defense anon.

Medicaid is available for free to low-income individuals and families, it pays all medical expenses at no cost. Not to mention nothing is truly free, someone is paying for it somewhere down the line. >the baby box

Such as what? All health insurance policies cover maternity by law and all real jobs provide 6-8 weeks of paid time off. What "other coverage" are you talking about?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternity_package
The baby box is a package most countries give you when your kid is born as a starter help kit type thing full of stuff you need or would help with having a baby. > The package contains children's clothes and other necessary items, such as nappies, bedding, cloth, gauze towels and child-care products, containing a blanket, crib sheets, diapers, and fabric which parents could use to make clothing for the baby.

Republicans.

Don't they charge you to touch your baby after it's born? It's irresponsible to have a baby in a for profit healthcare scam country.
It's because the real clients of the american health care system are insurance companies, not the patients. It's why those bullshit fees exist in the first place and also why they can often be "negotiated" away if you complain enough, because the hospitals know they're bullshit
Only genetic trash find pregnant women hot
Why?
You use pregnant women to justify terrorism and rape
Pregnant woman (your child) = hot
Pregnant woman (not your child) = boring
This. In fiction pregnant women are interesting insofar as you're meant to self-insert as the guy.
>not finding a very fertile woman attractive
Okay homosexual
A woman who's already pregnant is, in fact, NOT fertile at all.
Carol's wife is always hot
No.
>maternity leave
>still pregnant
Maternity leave is for after you have a baby.
it is not uncommon for women to go on leave a little bit ahead of their due date so they're already off work when they start going into contractions
>know the due date within a few days
>get 6 weeks of maternity leave
>use 2 or more of them before the baby arrives
No one I know does this.
>6 weeks
homie what they get like a year where i live
6 weeks is pretty standard in the US.

If your company can manage without you for over a year I can't imagine how you wouldn't be laid off by that point.
Because that would be illegal?
>Lay off pregnant woman.
Some supervillain shit right there.
>lay off redundant workers that can go missing for over a year without a drop in productivity or effectiveness
I mean, yeah.
I know you think your being a corporate ass-kissing capitalist badass, but that's cuck mentality
Mothers should be at home raising kids anyway.
Ideally, yes

If you follow the chain of replies you can see I already said I live in the US and what my expectations for maternity leave are based on that.
>Finland and Hungary mandate THREE YEARS of paid maternity leave
What the actual frick?
Some people like actually raising their kids and not immediately shoving them in a daycare soon after birth.
There should always be one parent at home anyway.
