Shang and Eternals made $400M at box office. Spiderman was successful but Spiderman is Sony's property. So two of their major production projects bombed, probably didn't even break even. Only Strange was a success.

How much do you think it cost them to make Shang Chi or Eternals? $400M for a major production Marvel movie is a huge bomb. Lets just say the entire movie cost them $200M. That means it didn't break even. Even if it would make them $100M back, it would be a huge failure. You may think wow tens of millions in profits, how is that a failure? Because at this level the investors are not about profits but about profits in a specific timeframe. They are used to investing $400M per movie and getting back $600M+ in the timeframe, getting only $100M means they lost money because they could invest it into oil rigs or whatever.

I saw Thor on Wednesday and it was a weird cinema experience. I can count on one hand the number of times the theatre laughed and the energy afterwards was very dour, almost funeralesque. When the lights came on everyone filed out wordlessly.
Yeah. The MCU doesn't understand who the audience for capeshit is suppose to be that's why they're flopping. Remember, capeshit is just western shounen, it's a genre meant to appeal to 13 year old boys and manchildren, not twitter trannies.
Which means there are a set of tropes that are essential to make capeshit work. You need male protags that look cool or badass(Wolverine, Batman, The punisher, Ironman, Spiderman, etc) in forefront and in the action, you need high spectacle(extravagant&creative use of powers and over the top violence, DBZ shit), and female heroines must leverage sex appeal. These are the ingredients that teen boys jump at, not shit like Ms Marvel talking about Paki history or whatever.

Dunno, I stopped watching after they ruined my man Thor in his first movie by making it almost entirely about Natalie Portman and that titcow. Most of the people I know cashed out when the Loki show made the infinity stones into paperweights as a joke and invalidated every single movie that came before it.
