The actress was pretty bad too, just as an actor. Looking at her "I do it infinitely more than you" scene is pretty much all you need to know about her lack of range.

That she managed to botch every fricking joke didn't help matters. Glad you've got a comedy lead with no sense of timing here, big help.

I'll play a devil's advocate here: people say she's good on Orphan Black. I don't watch that show so take it with a grain of salt, but I'm inclined to believe the problem is the shitty material was given. You can't really show much acting range when your entire character can be summarized as nothing but "smug c**t".

            Anonymous

She doesn’t really need to “act” in orphan black. The people (and by people I mean fat chicks) who say this just like her Brillo head hair and think she’s relatable because she isn’t overly attractive.

Yes but you have to allow seasoned writers to work on it and since most of them are white male scum in the eyes of management it'll never happen.

        No.
She-Hulk is broken on an ontological level.
People only know her as a bawd.

I'm curious about your claim of ontological bawdiness. Paris Hilton and the Kardiassians imply there's a way forward.

          Anonymous

Well Paris crafted a bimbo persona she can step-out of, Jen just has imposter syndrome and has to be She-Hulk because of self-loathing.

Is it canon in the MCU that she's high while transformed?

  4. 3 months ago
    Anonymous

    What do you mean, exactly?

The character currently has no real goals, no stakes thanks to how her show ended, no narrative to overcome, not even any villains. There's nothing to redeem because there's no low for her to pick herself up from besides just regular old plain jane nepotism hires who are bad at their job. Her only angle at this point is "Lawyer for superheros", only we already have that and he managed to have better jokes and more presence in 2 minutes during No Way Home than she did in her entire show, and he's actually got a good first season to fall back on and somewhere for his character to go in the future.

We can't redeem her because she started out the gate at the top in the narrative and at the bottom in writing, she hit a dead end before the first episode finished.

      Anonymous

The question is, does she keep getting the DevilD, because she somehow had the equivalent of the power to Loki S2 and squandered that for Matt Murwiener. Do they even mention it? I haven't looked up the cast for the next DD series but Karen isn't coming back, is she?

    just remake the last episode

  6. 3 months ago
    Anonymous

No, because of the last episode. They went too far with the meta stuff. If she can go full Duck Amok and just convince the writers to redo her story but more to her tastes then any attempt at making the audience care is going to be diminished going forward. Any problem she has is just going to have people saying "just go whine to Kevin some more"

      Anonymous

moron this is the only good part. She-Hulk is best being over the top meta and “immersion breaking”. It SHOULD piss people off who can’t step back and stop asking “why didn’t she just meta-frickery thanos away”. The show should never be for you.

The thing is they need to do everything here as well:

No. The CGI model needs to lose about 40 pounds and look more like a Victoria secret model than a fitness model. Plus she’s already been too much of a b***h. Claiming she’s had it rougher than her suicidal, survivor of childhood abuse cousin is honestly disgraceful.

Also they need to drop the legal angle and have her never be referenced as a lawyer again.

They won’t do any of this so no, she’s not redeemable.

She-hulk’s live action should appeal to straight 30 year old men who think the MCU is dopey and would give losers like you swirlies back in school. It shouldn’t appeal to losers like you who take the MCU too seriously or women who take women’s rights and femme lit seriously.

        >It shouldn’t appeal to losers like you who take the MCU too seriously or women who take women’s rights and femme lit seriously.

ehhhh, I dont know about that last part. She hulk has always been kind of feminist and liberal. She's pretty much a wish fufillment character as an ideal woman. The kind women want to be and men want to date (and sometimes be).

The key though, is that she hulk doesnt act like some internet feminist. If a thug grabs her ass, she makes a joke and throws him. She doesn't deliver some monologue about it that comes off as treating the audience like they are stupid.

sensational she hulk had stuff like that. She did pretty much everything dead pool would do before dead pool. And some how that comic got a couple years and we got her in future series.

Saying she can't get more media because of that last episode is just dumb

Did Hulk go through that shit in the MCU? I think only the suicidal part but that was at the beginning of the MCU, when things weren't still fully established

You answered your own question, moron. And it should be completely obvious that Banner has way more trauma to deal with because when he first turned green, he became an uncontrollable monster of pure rage, and for Jen, it was "Oh, I'm tall now."

          Anonymous

She asserted that growing up to adulthood she had to deal with more shit, which is true, Banner in this continuity was just a valued government scientist chad who only had to go on the run when he stole and used the project he was working on.

His abuse as a child and suicide attempts is absolutely canon. Let alone saving the planet multiple times and hiding in space.

There is zero defense of MCU Jen sincerely believing she’s had a comparably tough time just because she’s a woman.

She goes yachting (in a skimpy bikini) with wheezi, who wears a captain’s hat and massive life preserver, and the ship gets destroyed by namor who was throwing a previously sunken ship out of his waters (she finds out he also destroyed that one, despite claiming humans are littering in his waters) which leads to her trying to sue him until she realizes that’s stupid and boring. Deciding to make things more exciting for her readers, she just dives down kicks his ass and demands namorita reimburse her, which she does cause she likes the cut of she-hulk’s jib (originally a seafaring phrase)

Boom! I just wrote a perfect plot for issue/episode which Rowell or the TV writers could never manage to write. This is why I should have a job and they shouldn’t and I’m dead serious.

Every D+ character is redeemable because nobody fricking watched any of those shows so they can just pretend they never happened and write a good character. The downside is they'll need to re-introduce them via cliffnotes, but the first Avengers did that anyway so they can just repeat that with the next one.

Not at all. They used it as a cop out. Byrne used it to further the plot or make a cute joke, generally, not squash it because he ran out of run time.

Also that’s taking the laziest route to adapting Byrne while leaving everything that makes his Jen charming and endearing.

        Anonymous

This. Byrne used the 4th wall in interesting ways, like having She Hulk pull out actual back issues for use as evidence in her legal cases. She didn't *just* talk to the reader nonstop.

Honestly I'm with you. She's not a bad actress. I didn't need to watch Orphan Black to see that, but the writing of the show was what was off.

I shamelessly did enjoy some of the court scenes though, despite the writing team admitting they didn't know how to write them.

I still can't believe the writers made an "argument" that boils down to "fight scenes = bad and cliche, villains being on the similar power level as the hero = bad and cliche" and expected it to sound profound before resorting to cringe meta.
This level of being out of touch with the audience is impressive.
