How hard is it to just not do drugs? Drug dealers don't come to you. You have to seek them out if you want meth or something like that. Who even got him into meth in the first place?

That shit killed my little brother. He tried to stop many times. Sometimes he'd do well for years, but he always ended up back on it. Just 'not doing' it isn't really an option for an addict.

              Here's the process:
              >1. Try meth
              >2. Never stop doing meth because now you're fricking addicted

I think he was molested as a kid. A lot of people with traumatic childhoods self-medicate with illicit substances in an effort to cope mentally and emotionally. It usually starts with common substances like alcohol and weed and intensifies from there.

Obese people have roughly the same life expectancy as drug users, and hyperpalatable foods have been shown to be more addictive than the hardest drugs.

if he did well for years then clearly it's a psychological issue drawing him back into it. which is why he did it in the first place, which means it's not exactly fair to blame his friends, especially when he chose and kept their company in the first place, which was entirely on him.

You're not wrong, but you're oversimplifying it. Yeah, sure he had issues. He was rebellious. He did things he was told not to do. He trusted his friends over his family. He thought he was invincible. Christ, I could go on for a long time. I'm not blaming his friends completely, they're only a small part of the actions of a complicated person.

      >How hard is it to just not do drugs?
For some people, it's really difficult. To make it simple, people are normal, down, or up. Normal is just normal, they don't have anxieties or mental issues they have absolutely no problems getting through the day. When people are down they need something to get up to normal, this is common among smokers. One of the reasons why it is so hard to quit smoking is because these people have been using the nicotine to get to a state of normal and this is why in a lot of cases it's easier to quit smoking with the help of an anti-depressant.

The people who are up are anxious and firing off all the time and need something to take them down and well, that's what getting high and getting drunk is for. It's safe to say Stamper is up.

And finally, there's withdrawals. Your body always attempts to reach a "balance". If you don't take drugs, the balance is not taking drugs, if you do take drugs, the balance becomes your state under the influence of the drugs. When you stop taking the drugs, the body goes "wait, the balance is off" and it tries and compensates to get you back to where the drug used to take you. When your body tries to do this, these are withdrawals and it is your body essentially trying to unfrick itself but it can't because you refuse to give it drugs. And most people just can't take the time off work/life to recover and so they just keep on the drugs.

doesn't smoking give you a shitty high for like 5 seconds? its just nicotine addiction more than anything.

Believe it or not nicotine withdrawal is the drug withdrawal that is most likely to kill you. And it's also why smokers have to smoke all the time because the body needs it so badly.

People generally don't think ahead, but the thing is, doing drugs probably demands more forethought than the zero amount it gets from most people doing drugs. Because you actually have to decide on a time to quit and nobody does. Because you'll probably survive quitting smoking at 30 or 40 but if you try it at 50, there's a fair chance it kills you. But then, the reason why most people quit smoking is because they are sick, which means they have no choice but to risk dying of withdrawal in order to survive for a longer period of time.

Well, little bro wasn't always sensible. I don't know when he first tried meth, but meth certainly wasn't his first drug, and when you're already addicted to other drugs, seeking a newer, bigger high is always a temptation. Then while you're high on something else, your inhibitions stop being a barrier, and suddenly you're doing even worse drugs.
