Is stop motion considered?

Is stop motion considered Cinemaphile? It's a type of animation, right? I recently watched Junk Head and it was excellent.

Oh shit Junk Head, I watched this randomly with a friend and we loved it. I tried to make a thread on it a while back but it seemed nobody had seen it.

It's a shame it hasn't gotten more attention, but stop motion is kind of a niche within a niche at this point. I really hope the dude gets to make more, I'd love to see the story continue.

I saw it and now everyone can see it here: https://9anime.gg/watch/junk-head.CV42ZNkff3/
It was okay. I always adore any obscure show or feature film that uses stop motion since it's such an rare medium and this definitely has beautiful animation, sets, and designs, but all that's just frosting on a very weak cake that is the story. It repeats itself after the first 32 minutes, which is also when the original short ended and the expanded movie continues from. The main character loses his memory, gets sent on a task, and then a chase sequence happens. Rinse and repeat. There are some really good moments that aren't just nice visuals and action scenes like the MC giving the tired old man a chair to sit on and the MC interacting with the girl in the red hood was really sweet, but it also has really dumb moments like all the underground workers and the three ogre gimps worshiping and calling the MC "God". You'd think a bunch of clones who rebelled against their human creators would still have a bit of animosity towards a human newcomer. The movie could have used some rewrites. Aaaaand it ends on a cliffhanger. There's no joy in me shitting on well-animated movies that aren't just from some trillion dollar corporation, but without a decently-written story, what difference does it make to just watch random clips from YouTube instead of sitting down and watching the whole thing? Also, I thought it was fricking lame how the MC was never put back his original six-eyed body and is still in the "child" body by the end. Yeah, it was destroyed by an RPG, but would he not want to be put in a stronger body after regaining his memory? And the MC is never called "Junkhead". They call him "Junkers". I hope that was a translation error.

The movie is called Junk Head ( ジャンク•ヘッド) so it's not a translation error.
Also I agree the script could use tightening up, but I liked the three ogre guys especially when the one sacrifices himself. And from what I understood the humans up top had been separated from the robots down below for so long that they didn't know what a human was, I think the opening title crawl mentioned an absurd amount of time had passed since the rebellion.

          >robots
I've never heard the Madrigals be referred to as robots in the entire movie. I remember the original short called them clones. Makes more sense since they're basically fruits from a tree that grow into all kinds of people.

        >You'd think a bunch of clones who rebelled against their human creators would still have a bit of animosity towards a human newcomer.
I think it's meant to show how their society has developed since the rebellion. They've gotten on with their lives and seem to have lost knowledge of a lot of their own history, for example how they don't know the way the machines they work on are affected by operators of machines on other levels. Most of the characters have to have the concept of humans explained to them, it's not something they were actively aware of, so of course historical context will be lost on them and they won't harbor animosity toward a type of creature they were only just introduced to.

        >And the MC is never called "Junkhead". They call him "Junkers". I hope that was a translation error.
It's not an error, you can hear the characters say "Junkers." Most of their speech is babble but they do say names and you can hear it. The character ends up being named Junkers, but he IS Junk Head. As in, he is literally a head which is junk from an exploded body. The title of the movie doesn't have to be what the main character is named.

          >for example how they don't know the way the machines they work on are affected by operators of machines on other levels.
I kind of loved the idea that the entire functioning of that factory hinged on some guy even deeper down holding up a lever. There's some kind of clever statement being made there, but I don't know what exactly

I just re-watched the movie. Apparently it's "marigans" and not "madrigals"

I can buy the marigans being underground for so long that their history isn't well documented, but there could have been campfire stories told through generations about humans being evil or at least have an elder who knows a little more than the rest. Might as well cut the whole rebellion bit out entirely and have it be that humans lost contact due to earthquakes and assumed the marigans were killed off. I can buy the ogres believing that humans are gods, but I don't think the workers should have been quick to kiss the ass of someone who never really does anything divine especially since they also have to kiss the asses of their b***hy roided up shemale bosses.

Stop-motion movies take a long-ass time to make. This one also took decades to come out.

Stop motion is absolutely Cinemaphile. When Paranorman came out there were several threads about it.

I remember people saying that the last few Laika films had too good stop motion.
    Does Cinemaphile agree?
