The level of characterization for the cast was really nice.

Jack Delroy is a classic example of a monkey’s paw story where his pursuit for fame led to him to ruin. It seemed pretty clear to me that he didn’t plan on losing his wife when he made the deal, and was also using this show as a way of finding some sort of closure with losing his wife in addition to increasing his ratings.

The sidekick is a guy who disagrees with the direction the host has gone in, but is ultimately no different than him as he still chose to continue working with him despite his conscience.

The psychologist claims to be a noble person not wanting to see the possessed girl exploited, but at the same time brings her on a show to be exploited.

The skeptic guy isn’t someone who actually cares about pursuing the truth, and just grifts the entire movie to avoid acknowledging the obvious so he can keep his money. Great depiction of a fedora tipping redditor who claims to be all for the “truth” only to lose all credibility by refusing to acknowledge reality. Also very fitting that when confronted he immediately pledges servitude to the devil and thinks material wealth will save him.

The spirit medium at the start is a classic example of a conman who lies to people who have lost loved ones, but faces karma when he does actually become possessed.

The producer is another sort of satanic figure who exploits the tragedies people go through to further push Jack into fame.

The possessed girl doesn’t really have a character, and is more so a stand-in for people who get dragged into the limelight when they are best just being left alone and helped. Had any of the characters actually done the right thing then most of them wouldn’t have died, and that’s very much intentional commentary on the film’s part.

I found it apt that his attempt to ward off the demon isn't a real prayer or evocation of Christ but quoting from a pop culture movie he saw.

my only issue is they didn't know how to end it and it turned into the horror equivalent of jazz hands.

honestly, this is how i would fixed the ending:
      >the Halloween episode ends
      >documentarians endcap the documentary portion of the movie to show what the public knew
      >it was a hit, he climbed the social ladder and eventually got Carson's gig.
      >grew old, died, being considered on of the greats of Late Night
      >cut back to backstage, after that episode
      >they were all fraudsters, they all get paid, implied he's definitely fricking the psychiatrist and they are all kind of pieces of shit that justify lying about the supernatural because it entertains people
      >but the dialogue makes it more clear that they care more about how it advances their careers than entertaining people
      >host says the forgot the skull dagger prop on the stage, he goes to get it
      >comes through the curtains, realizes its the beginning of another taping, time has fast forwarded, he's clearly disoriented by it
      >before he can figure it out, he's in another episode, that way you can still have basically the crazy shit you saw at the end
      >still basically haunted by his dying wife in bed like in the cut
      >but this time, we have a flashback to the actual moment that he's young, in the woods with the cult, making a pact with the devil for success
      >find out that this is what hell is like for him, just reliving the episodes, being reminded that he traded his wife for a successful life, now that life is over, and eternal torture beckons
      >now its literally Late Night, with the Devil, cue title card
      >cut to someone watching the last episode it before the title card, but its normal, but from the view of some dude now watching it on YouTube, for like 5-10 seconds so that you realize that's all his life amounted to now, in 2024
      >credits

correcting to make a little more clear:
        >title card hits
        >cut back to the last episode before the title card, but its the normal recording, not the Hell version
.>pans out, its some dude now watching it on YouTube on his computer
        >this is all Jack's life amounts to now, in 2024
        >hangs for like 5 tto10 seconds, then credits

The movie features AI generated title cards when it cuts to its fake commercial breaks. They're kinda shitty looking, but they're on screen for a total of like 5 seconds throughout the movie.

Literally who is autistic enough to notice these and identify they are AI. I saw this movie in theaters and would have no idea. I strongly feel this info was fed to someone online to cause outrage. If someone is that autistic to identify this in 5 seconds they have way more serious problems in life

The movie was not released normally over a year ago. Only at a festival. And then my point still stands who was autistic enough to notice this in an environment where you could only watch the movie once.

I would bet any amount of money that the reason they used AI to make like 4 shit tier images is solely to cause a big press shitstorm for PR because until today it was the only thing I heard about this movie. Also it was good.

saw this movie last weekend, and while i enjoyed it, i found it's inability to fully stick with with found footage/lost media format to be disappointing, it's unfortunate that the director couldn't find a way to tell the story wholly within the confines of a "lost Halloween special video tape" premise that the movie is carried by. i give it a 7.5/10

people that defend ai art are people that have zero artistic or creative skill whatsoever, whether it be a genetic abnormality in the brain or socioeconomic, they were raised that way or they have some psychological fear of learning a new skill. Or they are just plain low iq.

It's the easiest way i've found to spot dunning-krugers. Since being a dunning-kruger is essentially being a no skills "idea guy" that overestimates their abilities.

The California homosexuals are completely losing their minds over AI. I recently pirated a few new indie games and they all come with disclaimers that they're not using AI and you just look at the art it looks like shit and I don't see how anyone would have assumed it was AI made, and the game just sucks and has discord links everywhere and every time you boot it up they have these unskippable cringe anti-AI messages and thanking their team like they can't put that shit in the credits
