The lighting, the bright outfits, the complete lack of the community soundtrack from the first two seasons, the entire season being shot indoors. Community was a pretty ambitious sitcom. It was single camera, shot I think only a few weeks in advance of airing, and in the early seasons they did a lot of on-location filming. Hell, they did a whole episode parodying clip shows where the joke was that none of the clips actually came from previous episodes, and were all filmed specifically for that episode

It's seriously crazy how many people who know Chevy Chase IRL hate his guts. I know he's been an butthole on record but you have to be a complete piece of shit in your personal life if literally no one has anything good to say about you. Funny guy though.
I know it's been said many times, many ways, but it's insane that Jeff and Annie didn't end up together, I mean really insane. They had great chemistry the entire show and worked very well to complete each other as people. They were so afraid of any emotions on the show besides purely comedic ones but I don't think it would've taken as much away from the tone as they feared.
I mean they built up to it by the second half of the show, but then turned it into irl Stablerposting in the finale. It makes sense character-wise at least, seeing as Annie has her whole life ahead of her while Jeff is middle-aged, but still it's kinda weird considering just how much they obviously worked
For the early seasons sure, but Seasons 5-6 have a very melancholic vibe overall and the Jeff/Annie chemistry is clearly more friends than lovers.
if it's been said many times, it's been bullshit many times
the Harmon of seasons 1 and 2 would have been disgusted at the notion of using such a cheap sitcom ploy

>people don't just randomly decide they wanna frick after being friends for six years
Their entire arc is the opposite: people deciding they want to be friends after wanting to frick for six years.
Yeah it was a dumb sitcom ploy but they clearly wanted to end on a dramatic relationship-related note and they didn't have any viable remaining cast. It would have felt even more off if there was zero romantic chemistry between any of the cast in the end.
fair enough, but i was replying to someone who wanted them to end up together, as a couple

No. It was shit. I gave it a few episodes, but I couldn't take it. All of the jokes were forced and unfunny. They didn't bother introducing characters in a way that made sense. They literally did a round table introduction hoping to manufacture instant chemistry. It didn't work. It just made me hate the writers.

i mean it's just utterly soulless and plastic >season 5
Harmon comes back, delivers another inconsistent season >season 6
too many characters have left. they try to replace them with new characters who have 0 personality. one of them i remember from being Mike on Breaking Bad. i think they were two more, but they had no personality either. series finale was some fan service about Jeff and Annie. meh. >all in all
i liked the show, but it squandered some potential. could have been one of the all-time great TV comedies with more seasons like season 2
>blatant Community coomer thread >turns into actual discussion of the show
Huh
Usually it's the other way around
Season 6 isn't that bad, I like that they worked the haemorrhaging of cast members into the story instead of just trying to ignore it, and it ends up with this surprisingly kino atmosphere as they creep closer towards the end. Plus it's still got some pretty good episodes (Dean get VR, spy paintball, Wedding Videography, the finale)
But it definitely suffers from losing half the cast and even Keith David isn't a good enough replacement. He's massively underused in that season tbh
Community threads have never really been that good - everyone's on the same page and there's broad agreement on the only things that really get discussed: i.e. which seasons were good and which girl was hotter.
I always find Season 6 depressing. I've had experience outgrowing a group of friends where people move on to different things and you're just stuck there with a few stragglers trying to have the same dynamic but something feels wrong, and Community S6 invokes that feeling incredibly strongly.
Not the anon you're replying to, but that's part of why I like Season 6 more than most people. It does an amazing job of nailing that atmosphere of ending things, while tying it into the show's storyline and Jeff's arc really well
Yeah it hurts, and we've all been through a situation like that, but the final season portrays it fantastically. It's very unexpectedly kino for a sitcom
It was good at portraying the difficulties all humans face with change, even tho we live in a universe that is under constant change, we still fear it and struggle with it.
I remember rewatching the first 4 seasons for a long time, from like highschool to the end of college. So when season 5 and 6 were added to netflix, this ending was like a boot in the fricking gut.
(It didn't help that I had recently lost basically all my friends by this point in my life)
When do the good times start again anons?

The S6 ending (and much of S6 in general) perfectly encapsulates that feeling of when you graduate and your group of school/college buddies slowly drift away from each other until you feel like you're the only one left. It's devastating.
They choose the most heart-wrenching combination of characters too: By that point Abed is the last remaining instigator of antics and Annie is his main emotional/romantic tie. And Jeff doesn't really have anyone to go back to: Britta is a womanchild who doesn't really have any dynamic with him. Frankie's not much fun. Chang is insane and a liability. The Dean will straight-up rape him the second he gets a chance. I like that it's not stereotypically uplifting but it's a mean note to end on for a show with such a wholesome group dynamic.

It's just brutally realistic, especially for a show which was mostly a heightened surreal reality
Jeff's whole story is just crushing tbh: >lose cushy, profitable lawyer job >have to go to a shitty, embarrassing community college >gradually have to come to terms with the fact that you're hitting middle age and haven't accomplished anything >all you know of love is meaningless hook-ups and failed relationships >have issues with both your mother and father >never even left the state you were born in >eventually have to become a teacher at said shitty college >all the friends you made there become far more successful than you and actually have their lives ahead of them >you have to watch them all leave for greener pastures while you're still stuck in the college, hitting 40 >you never made your move with the woman you love before she goes off to live her life so all you get from her is a goodbye kiss >the only people still with you are a borderline moronic woman, a perverted dean obsessed with you and an actual psychopath who once tried to murder you
Once they get around to the movie I really hope they give him a good ending. He deserves it.

I doubt the movie is going to happen. I thought it was possible in 2020 when they did that Zoom readthrough and their podcast thing, all coinciding with the episodes going on Netflix, but all that energy seemed to dissipate.
Also the whole comedy environment is different now; I'm not sure if new Community would feel a bit dated...

I think they're working to make it happen, I remember Harmon saying he's finally working on the script somewhat recently and the cast are all on board. They just need to get on it soon, otherwise it'll be too obvious how old they all are

Ultimately this doesn't really matter. No reason the movie needs to take place immediately after season 6. Annies already ruined and Gilly is unwallable to I don't see the issue.

That sounds encouraging. I assume there'll need to be a timeskip and it won't be them pretending to be almost 10 years younger
I mean I wasn't saying that it should be set right after S6, the obvious move is to make it a college reunion, but if they leave it too long the cast will probably all look a little too old. They were all already playing characters who were younger than them

I feel worse for Britta than I do for Jeff. He did lose his cushy job and lifestyle, but on the other hand, he was morally uplifted and got to experience real friendship. Britta on the other hand has experienced the same failures as Jeff but without the upsides. She lost what little dignity, moral clarity and self worth she had at the start. She's a middle aged buffoon with a physically demanding, dead end, precarious job, fading looks (well, not really because as far as I know Gillian is still very cute), and pretty much zero prospects for the future.

Season 1 is the only good one. Peak comfy and feelgood sitcom with funny jokes, well written episodes and superb characters. It's a damn shame that Harmon is such a nutcase and made the series into his personal therapy session. He probably didn't even realize that he struck gold with it.
Some capeshit leaders are saying Joel McHale is in the running to play Wonder Man. It's Disney plus but with a Community writer and Joel it could be good.

I thought the actress playing Annie was actually wholesome in real life but when I learned she's a bawd it kinda turned me off and I stopped watching the show
The 2nd half of Season 4 doesn't get any better. Season 5 is solid - not the best but there's some good stuff and it's a big step up from Season 4. Season 6 is so-so. If you like Community I'd definitely say go for it. But it's a bit depressing as other anons in this thread have already explained.

>season 6
too many characters have left. they try to replace them with new characters who have 0 personality. one of them i remember from being Mike on Breaking Bad. i think they were two more, but they had no personality either. series finale was some fan service about Jeff and Annie. meh.
>all in all
i liked the show, but it squandered some potential. could have been one of the all-time great TV comedies with more seasons like season 2
>blatant Community coomer thread
>turns into actual discussion of the show
Mike was season 5
The black guy from The Nice Guys and Birdgirl were season 6.
I'm in a point in my life where my emotional state cannot handle the final episode. I literally stop my rewatches at the wedding video now.
For me, it's when Jeff goes in for the second hug
Jeff's whole story is just crushing tbh:
>lose cushy, profitable lawyer job
>have to go to a shitty, embarrassing community college
>gradually have to come to terms with the fact that you're hitting middle age and haven't accomplished anything
>all you know of love is meaningless hook-ups and failed relationships
>have issues with both your mother and father
>never even left the state you were born in
>eventually have to become a teacher at said shitty college
>all the friends you made there become far more successful than you and actually have their lives ahead of them
>you have to watch them all leave for greener pastures while you're still stuck in the college, hitting 40
>you never made your move with the woman you love before she goes off to live her life so all you get from her is a goodbye kiss
>the only people still with you are a borderline moronic woman, a perverted dean obsessed with you and an actual psychopath who once tried to murder you
Once they get around to the movie I really hope they give him a good ending.
They just need to get on it soon, otherwise it'll be too obvious how old they all are
>how old they all are
Ultimately this doesn't really matter. No reason the movie needs to take place immediately after season 6. Annies already ruined and Gilly is unwallable to I don't see the issue.
I mean I wasn't saying that it should be set right after S6, the obvious move is to make it a college reunion, but if they leave it too long the cast will probably all look a little too old. They were all already playing characters who were younger than them
That sounds encouraging. I assume there'll need to be a timeskip and it won't be them pretending to be almost 10 years younger
Her only hope is her inheritance.
>writing is pretty good from the off
No. It was shit. I gave it a few episodes, but I couldn't take it. All of the jokes were forced and unfunny. They didn't bother introducing characters in a way that made sense. They literally did a round table introduction hoping to manufacture instant chemistry. It didn't work. It just made me hate the writers.
Heres a show thats more your speed anon
>posts a funnier show
nice way to make yourself look like a moron. fricking phonegays i swear
Based.
I'm sorry for your mentall disability, anon, maybe reddit would work better for you
Gilly > Annie > Britta > Alison
Settled science.
I CAN'T TAKE IT, ANON. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE. I NEED HER
Annie > Gilly anytime > Alison pre-wall > Britta > Alison post-wall
I like that alison is really hot but not photogenic at all
Gilly>Britta>Annie>Alison
too cute
Annie>Alison pre-bog>Gilly>Alison post-bog>Britta
Correct
Thing is they're still all top tier women, even the fictional ones
WHY DID I HAVE TO BE BORN A MANLET
I SEE IT EVERYWHERE, IN EVERY SUBTLE MOTION THEY DO
THEY WANT A TALLER GUY, THEY CRAVE IT, THEY MAKE IT OBVIOUS
FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK FRICK
Alison won all the polls, anon
>Movie happens
>Troy and Pierce return
>Peirce faked his death and stowed away on the boat until they got to international waters.
>They ended up getting shipwrecked and had to eat Levar Burton to survive.
>At one point in the movie, someone uses the line, "take a look, it's in a book" which causes Troy to run away in tears.
I thought this was hilarious.
Jeff did frick Annie because...
>SHES YOUNG AND LIKE A SISTER OKAY??????????
based typo
>troy and abed in the morning!
literally, unironically me at those scenes
i miss that youthful childlike appreciation for tongue in cheek playing
No. They were trying to capture the magic of other ensemble shows, and it tried too hard and failed hard.
No other shows had the same charm that moments like green daye/annies song/abed dancing/pop n lock had
Best character coming through.
He's mostly just playing himself but he was a pretty great side character
>you, in the boobs
lmao
>this is why the english never win any sports; because everyone else *cheats*
has there been a more british line ever uttered on american television?
they really get the incest right
Peaked with the reveal of the Greendale Human Being and Annie's reaction to it.
Jeffbros...
It honestly just hurts tbh
streets ahead XD
Season 1 is the only good one. Peak comfy and feelgood sitcom with funny jokes, well written episodes and superb characters. It's a damn shame that Harmon is such a nutcase and made the series into his personal therapy session. He probably didn't even realize that he struck gold with it.
Some capeshit leaders are saying Joel McHale is in the running to play Wonder Man. It's Disney plus but with a Community writer and Joel it could be good.
McHale's already got a capeshit gig on Stargirl though
Maybe he dies or maybe Wonder Man is a limited series
WARNING: EXTREME RACISM - DO NOT OPEN
To think that Derek Chauvin watched this very episode minutes before killing George Floyd. Haunting...
FEET
What did he mean by this?
>Pete cheated on that
Dumbest man alive
Trudy was way too fricking good for Pete
I feel like casting Alison was an accident because there's no way any man would cheat on her, especially if she had Trudy's attitude and personality
she literally accepted his cheating and allowed him to have an apartment in the city so he can do his whoring without throwing it in her face and he still found a way to frick it up kek
Yes.
Watched this with gf and fricked the shit out of her afterwards. Felt pretty bad since she obviously knew why I went so hard on her.
I thought the actress playing Annie was actually wholesome in real life but when I learned she's a bawd it kinda turned me off and I stopped watching the show
Lurk more, everyone know it’s irl is the opposite of the show. Gillian is the wholesome girl.
Chevy calling out alcoholic Dan Harmon for his shit writing on s3 was based and kino idc
Dan Harmon is such an butthole. Didn't he play this at a cast party?
I think the voicemail was a response to the cast party
Sounds like it
>you're not funny, you're OK
that's hilarious
COOMunity thread
yes
I like Trudy, shill me this show
If you like Trudy then you'll love Community because a good chunk of it revolves around Alison Brie being cute
Same loyal innocent-seeming character, but 18 year old naive student who craved troy's bbc in the first season
guize, I never watched the last like 2 and a half seasons. Worth it?
The 2nd half of Season 4 doesn't get any better. Season 5 is solid - not the best but there's some good stuff and it's a big step up from Season 4. Season 6 is so-so. If you like Community I'd definitely say go for it. But it's a bit depressing as other anons in this thread have already explained.
Yeah, it's definitely worth it
Sure. It never gets any better than S1-3 but it's not a dumpster fire and there's some good stuff (parts of S5 in particular).
what is she doing nowadays?
Preparing to have and raise my children
Yes. If you don’t like it your are prob esl
Do none of you find it weird that you're jerking off to the same thing along with dozens of strangers from all around the planet
Do you often think about other men while jerking off? Think you might be on the wrong board
>tfw you'll never be a guest in Troy and Abed in the morning
>tfw Pudi played Abed the cinematic butthole who feels his dumb videos are art
>tfw Donald Glover is actually Abed in real life
Cutest girl
How many abortions do you think she’s had? Brie I mean. Keep in mind she’s a israeli woman
S1 = S2 >>>>>>>>>>> S3 > S5 = S6 >>>>> S4
Overthinking it. Each season just gets worse after 2.
Abed is reddit:the character but I can't help but relate to him.
Its a shame what happened to Allison she was so cute
