Is the "female counterpart" cartoon character archetype dead? Most female characters these days seem to be conceived and designed as their own character as opposed to taking a the character design of a male main character and making it feminine.

How to Train your Dragon 3 is the last example I can think of, and it came out like 5 years ago.
I also hated the light fury design. It stands out way too much from every other dragon design in the movie, entirely because it falls victim to that trope

Existing female counterpart characters like Smurfette, Lola Bunny or Amy Rose have also been given more character depth and personality than "is a girl".
It's a shame that Space Jam 2 reverted Lola back to her original bland personality instead of using her actually looney character from the Looney Tunes Show.
