He was a complete batch in attitude, not physical capability. He's shown as highly fast and athletic from the moment his character is introduced. He's clearly a much better natural athlete than Hawk so yeah its not crazy to think he could progress to reach Hawk's level pretty quick.

Miguel and Kenny are both the two most natural karate kids out of the kids with Devon being a 3rd.
Devon literally was able to hold her own against Tory who had several years of experience in kick boxing before taking up karate and only lost because she was only training six weeks.

To me, the funniest exchange was when Johnny set up the cowboy scenery for Robbie ans Miguel to play out the issues and he goes on to explain the scenario, and he says to Miguel "obviously you'll play Velasquez" and the immediate comeback from Miguel "are you describing the plot of Young Guns 2?" and then Johnny says "oh shit, you've seen that?", "Yeah. With you!"

The story arc being that the new kids are overtaking the old main characters is actually pretty realistic. Its basically the same thing that happened in MMA. When the sport was still new and nobody was doing it, a small subset of fighters would win almost everything. Once the sport got more popular and true athletes started to compete, they took over.
Similarly, Hawk and Dimitri etc. were considered good to decent fighters when not that many kids in the valley were doing karate. Now that the valley is going through a karate resurgence and the actual high level athletes are starting to take part, it only makes sense that they would fall off.
I think this is what fans don't realize
At the start Miguel was able to wipe the floor with all 3 bullies who were the best wrestlers but now even Kyler is able to fight against him and Kyler is considered one of the worst fighters
If anything Miguel, Robbie, Elie are just getting out classed.
A great example is Tory vs Devon.
Devon was only training for 2 months at most and was able to fight well against her. A few months later and Devon is considered the next female champion to replace Tory
One trick ponies are great but as time goes on, the tricks get worked out.

Not only similar, but it also surpasses the quality of the original series at certain moments.

Nah, it jumped the shark at season 2 or 3. At some point the cringe just surpassed the actual good elements of the show. Show starts awesomely simple. An old rivalry between someone that won in life and someone that lost. Getting to see Johnny get back on his feet after he meet Miguel, opening the dojo and how that affects Daniel and eventually the community, the new generation was great. It was a strong meaningful drama on it`s own right and not just some piece of nostalgia bite. But then they just took it too far with soap opera tier stuff like Miguel paralysis, Robby going to prison, Stinger or whatever his name was, Johnny having 2 romantic interests in his late 40`s, every single character forced back for nostalgia`s sake... now it`s ruined.

The story arc being that the new kids are overtaking the old main characters is actually pretty realistic. Its basically the same thing that happened in MMA. When the sport was still new and nobody was doing it, a small subset of fighters would win almost everything. Once the sport got more popular and true athletes started to compete, they took over.
Similarly, Hawk and Dimitri etc. were considered good to decent fighters when not that many kids in the valley were doing karate. Now that the valley is going through a karate resurgence and the actual high level athletes are starting to take part, it only makes sense that they would fall off.
I think this is what fans don't realize
At the start Miguel was able to wipe the floor with all 3 bullies who were the best wrestlers but now even Kyler is able to fight against him and Kyler is considered one of the worst fighters
If anything Miguel, Robbie, Elie are just getting out classed.
A great example is Tory vs Devon.
Devon was only training for 2 months at most and was able to fight well against her. A few months later and Devon is considered the next female champion to replace Tory

Nah, it jumped the shark at season 2 or 3. At some point the cringe just surpassed the actual good elements of the show. Show starts awesomely simple. An old rivalry between someone that won in life and someone that lost. Getting to see Johnny get back on his feet after he meet Miguel, opening the dojo and how that affects Daniel and eventually the community, the new generation was great. It was a strong meaningful drama on it`s own right and not just some piece of nostalgia bite. But then they just took it too far with soap opera tier stuff like Miguel paralysis, Robby going to prison, Stinger or whatever his name was, Johnny having 2 romantic interests in his late 40`s, every single character forced back for nostalgia`s sake... now it`s ruined.

Devon is only useful in a plot as a punching bag, because her entrance was botched. It's a show where the most soulful character Miguel took multiple episodes just to learn how to throw a proper punch. The whole getting into the martial arts tournament part was so fricking stupid to me. The representatives even said before that it doesn't matter who wins or loses they just want to watch a competition and make a decision based on what they see.
