I'm old enough to have seen porn in theaters, but I never made it past the coming attractions.

    >Is there a cinematic art to adult films?
Nope. Art seeks to create an emotional or intellectual response. Porn's intention is sexual gratification. It COULD potentially be art, a lot of things could, but it's not because no one working in the medium uses it in that manner.
    >It used to be common for mainstream directors to direct adult films too.
    Name five.

Artistic pornography exists. Check out Georges Bataille.

But lust is an emotion. As is disgust. So if you're disgusted by a porn scene then it provoked an emotional response and therefore is art.

No it isn't. Do you think hunger is also an emotion?

That's your response? What a copout. I'm not even sure I believe in a God but at the same time my IQ is over 90 so I know that lust isn't an emotion.

Lust is not an emotion, Lust is a drive. Fricking autists. Stop trying to tell non-defective people how you fantasize the mind works.

I can only come up with ones from decades ago who did shlock grindhouse horror flicks like Nick Millard, Roberta Findlay, and Tim Kincaid.

It was common in France and Spain but nowhere else AFAIK, not even Italy.

      https://www.pastemagazine.com/movies/porn/mainstream-directors-porn

Beginning a film career by working behind the camera in porn used to be very common. It was like starting your stage career by working off Broadway. You could also include actual porn in more mainstream movies like Vincent Gallo face fricking what’s her name in Brown Bunny.

Starting a film career by going through the porn industry doesn’t exist so much anymore because porn is sought through the sex act rather than watching a story now. We don’t fast forward through a tape or DVD, we just search “chubby teen painal farting cum and eating it” and we fap like kings.

That article only has one example: Barry Sonnefeld and it's not even a proper supporting point because he didn't direct porn, he was DOP for some porn films. Not one of the other directors listed made porn, it's just listing filmmakers that used scenes of unsimulated sex in their movies.

        >have niche porn idea that most stars refuse to entertain
        >money talks, decide to pay the stars astronomical salaries to convice them to work with you
        >because you are filling a niche everyone else is afraid/unable to fill and you do this with higher production values your company becomes very popular
        >sell your company since it’s a popular, valuable property
        >turns out the only reason you were able to pay so much and have those production values is by going into insane debt, company was never profitable
        >leave new buyer of the company with the debt while walking away with the money he paid you
Absolute legend. I don’tlike his work but the business strategy is brilliant.

So his business strategy was build a business on unsustainable debt then fleece it off to an unscrupulous buyer that didn't do their due diligence?
Solid grift but hardly brilliant business strategy.
