Is there a name that Tim could take that makes sense for his character?
Red Robin is just boring and he's the third Robin to use that mantle too (KC Dick and some Jason variant were before him), and Drake was just his last name which is dumb.
Both Nightwing and Red Hood are names that mean a lot to Dick and Jason.
Dick is a massive Superman fanboy and was the third member of World's Finest for about two thirds of the whole original volume, so naming himself after something related to Superman is a no brainer.
Jason was killed by Joker so him stealing his mantle and making it his own is also a no brainer.
Even Damian could easily use a name more associated with Talia's side of the family which would be more meaningful than anything Tim has come up with so far.

How about Crow? Bonus points for making Jason sad and miss his mommy.
Rook, Jackdaw, Bluejay?
Any corvid would do.
>Robin is a bird therefore the next name he take should also be a bird
Tim is doomed
Robin isn't even supposed to be bird-themed, he's supposed to be based on Robin Hood.
Dixon had the right idea back in the early 00s. He was gonna make Tim Blue Beetle for a short while, but most importantly he first established Tim as a fanboy of Ted in BOP. That was probably the most important trait of Tim before Johns’ TT and Identity Crisis ruined him for forever… he was a relatively normal self insert fanboy.
Now Tim‘s character has been shredded to bits but that’s really the easiest path to giving him a meaningful mantle name. Some Timgays say Gray Ghost would be a good mantle for him and I kinda agree. Establish Tim as a Gray Ghost fanboy alongside Bruce and make it so that’s one of the biggest things they bonded over when Tim first became Robin. Doesn’t even have to be made into a real hero in canon, he can just be some considered old show/comic/property that nobody but nerds remember. Then 2-3 years down the line have him take the name and give him a slick outfit.
I like Grey Ghost for a couple reasons.
>Zero bird theme, leaving him with a completey differentiating look and gimmick
>An obscure legacy that no one's using, like Red Hood and Nightwing were
>Taking on the legacy of a TV character is pretty dorky but so is Tim
>Could incorporate the trenchcoat and hat look of old school mystery men like the original, playing into the "detective" angle they've been pushing for Tim
Better then assigning him various birds or sticking with "Red Robin" which just makes me groan.
Is he still gay?
The more you ask that the more dicks he sucks.
Then there’s no fixing him
Gay Ghost seems like the reason to avoid this name.
If you’re 12 maybe.
Red Phaggot.
You could just kill him and leave him dead. It's not like he serves any narrative purpose now that he's no longer Robin. Leaving all these goddamn former sidekicks alive just clogs up these books.
Darkwing!
That sucks.
>Dick is a massive Superman fanboy and was the third member of World's Finest for about two thirds of the whole original volume, so naming himself after something related to Superman is a no brainer
What's the explanation for Nightwing?
He's a Superman fanboy and was the third member of World's Finest for about two thirds of the whole original volume. Bruce and Clark are his dads.
Never knew Supes used the name first, very cool. Thanks for the page!
Anon please, your casual is showing.
Can't blame him, the adaptations really downplay it and even in modern stories they forget how close he was meant to be to Superman.
(reminder that DCAU Superman wasn't even superman until after Dick quit being Robin, lmao)
In stuff like the DCAU, TT03, the arkham games, Nightwing is meant to be Dick growing up to be edgier and darker and more Batman-like. It gave me a bit of a surprise when I realized it's the opposite in the comics; becoming Nightwing symbolizes that Dick grew up healthy with a bunch of influential figures.
I was so mad when they revealed where the Nightwing name came from in that shitty as Titans show. Like even if you can't show Superman or Clark because of embargoes or whatever but surely you can just have Dick say he's buddies with Superman or some shit?
>reminder that DCAU Superman wasn't even superman until after Dick quit being Robin, lmao)
You nibbler because it was partly based on Byrne ie where Kents alive into Superman phase and THERE WAS NO KRYPTON SUPERHERO NIGHTWING
IT IS YOU WHO CASUAL DONKEY
>YOU WHO CASUAL
Byrne Superman met Batman long before Dick became Nightwing. There's an issue of MoS about that.
Moreover my point is that the DCAU had it so most of Batman's history happened before Superman even wore his costume and how it kept them from even establishing the relationship with Dick in the first place.
DCAU Nightwing's origin was explained in the DCAU comics as being tied to a tribe of natives in Brazil. Which is dubious canon but I think reasonable since it was written by a show writer.
Suck my nuts, and I won't even cry reddit spacing.
Yup, so far my Superman experience has been
>Siegel strips

*Last Son of Earth + Last Stand on Krypton
Also The Last Family of Krypton 2010 by OG Bronze Age Earth 1 writer Carey Bates what if Jor El and Lara also came, but it is heavily infused with 1978 movie nostalgia, soo if you into it
Also Secret Identity into Alt
Also All-Star Superman but I'd have to recommend all intricate Silver Age originators like Action Comics 239 or original Superman Red and Blue story or all blood transfusion stories from Earth 2 and 1. Characters limit.
Also there is a reason why in Superman The Movie powers showcase is in That order and why time travel is there but heat vision only showcased in Superman II. That's how it was in pre-Crisis reboot chronological order of his powers.
Also reboot was first time when powers didn't manifest instantly not even physical and Red Son is first time when sensory powers came BEFORE physical.
There are some more tiny details.
Also there are comics like when Earth 1 Superboy meets Bruce Wayne and THAT is "why" Batman's costume has that particular design with trunks, and why Earth 1 has trunks because Kryptonians had them and unlike Earth 2 Kal-L who left it as infant Kal-El actually was like 2-3 years old when Krypton blew up. It is also why in The Movie they place him into rocket as infant but he lands on Earth as 3 year old Aaron Smolinski because they kinda combined it.
Again, I'd write it all more thorough but characters limit + I am phone posting rn.
Take it from here .
Also fun dynamic in Earth-1 Pete Ross KNOWS Clark Kent is Superboy/man, but Clark doesn't know that he knows. You can see it in Secret Years 1985 but it was much earlier in 60s.
But really just start with origins, it's much better than just randomly chim into random issues.
Yeah, it's what inspired DCEU Batman being older superhero than Superman. Knightmare was also inspired by Stas season 3 ending.
Although DCAU is very Batman centric universe while DCEU is very Superman centric one.
Still, point is only Earth 1 had Krypton superheroes while Byrne and Earth 2 didn't really.
>Still, point is only Earth 1 had Krypton superheroes while Byrne and Earth 2 didn't really.
DCAU still chose to do their own thing with a lot of the characters besides Byrne's take though, Braniac for example. Supergirl as well was different from Post Crisis even if she couldn't be actually Clark's cousin or from Krypron.
Flamebird.
Because DC hasn't thrown Bette under enough buses.
Maybe she shouldn't have stolen the name from Jimmy Olsen then.
She didn't steal it any more than Dick stole Nightwing from Superman.
>Both Nightwing and Red Hood are names that mean a lot to Dick and Jason.
I always thought Red Robin made the most sense because of this. It's an evolution of Robin, but it's not quite on their level, if that makes sense.
This. Unlike Dick or Jason,Tim embraced the Robin role. He wants to be Batman’s right hand.
> oh but dick wore it in KC
And KC Dick is entirely different from mainline Dick. KC Dick was an empty cipher, just Ross and Waid boomerwanking how Nightwing isn’t as good as Dick becoming more like Batman.
> oh but Jason wore it
Guess what, Red Hood as a mantle was also worn by people before the Joker.
To me it’s a Goldilocks situation, it was never meant for Dick and Jason, but it for Tim perfectly. Tim is pragmatic and he only wants to be a hero as long as he’s needed by Batman. He isn’t trying to be his own mantle or leave a legacy. He is simply doing something he feels is his responsibility
>Is there a name that Tim could take that makes sense for his character?
Swallow
The Peawiener. Give him a rainbow cape to show his support for the LGBT.
Sorry Peawiener is already taken with one of the best costumes ever
Toon Titans had it right, all Robins should simply be called Robin, they shouldn't have agency beyond Batman.
But since the genie is out of the lamp what's wrong with Drake, like a Duck.
