Is there a single standup comedian nowadays who's actually funny?
Pic very unrelated. I watched a few clips of him since he's starting to show up in various shows again and the guy's anecdotes are a total bore. The audience is laughing but I have no idea why.
>nowadays
Standup comedy has never been funny.
you just hate on it because your so fricking fat you can't even standup
Prime Chapelle is one of the few exceptions
I saw youtube shorts of this guy, he annoyed me
I also saw youtube shorts of some fat guy talking about a buffet, only funny standup I've ever watched
>some fat guy talking about a buffet
Are you sure that was a standup and not a candid camera moment?
John Pinnette. He'll be dead for 10 years in march. Quit typing, moron.
I haven't seen Peter Kay's new shows after he took a long break but he used to be pretty fricking good.
misheard song lyrics. so wholesome but funny.
>Bobbie Gentry? Filth.
a gay guy married to a woman is pretty funny but the bit does get old.
Women love him (or at least his stuff before he got sober). You must learn to find him funny in order to find a gf.
My respect for Mulaney as a man rose immensely when he just abruptly left his boring-ass mid wife to frick Olivia Munn. Such a goddamn chad move. His stupid wife cried and whined about it for a year while he was dicking down Munm to the point she got preggos and had their kid. Frick his stupid israelite ex-wife, what a dumb c**t. I hope her friends roast her constantly about being a post-wall childless failure. John Mulaney rules.
based and munnpilled. on topic, since norm died stewart lee is the only stand up left alive.
>His stupid wife cried and whined about it for a year
her tiktoks about it were hilarious, a shame she scrubbed them. the seethe was next level.

>she's gonna freeze her eggs at 35
lmao women are delusional, literally no awareness of biology
Olivia Munn is a classless degenerate. She's the most shallow, empty-hearted, empty-minded woman I've ever seen. She was an obvious c**t from the first day I saw her on Attack of the Show. If you like her, you have terrible, terrible taste.
Stand up is way too contrived to be funny. There’s a reason why we laugh way harder at something somebody said impromptu irl than at any pre written joke delivered by a comedian.
One example is how vastly funnier Norm Macdonald was in his podcast/show compared to his stand ups. Same with Theo Von. Seinfeld was funnier in the show. Ricky Gervais on the radio, etc.
The only guy who perfected it for me is Louis CK, he’s truly at his funniest while doing stand up.
Improv is worse than proper stand up.
If the person is naturally funny it isn’t. Unless you’re talking about improv on a stage, which is contrived, which is my main point.
I have the same thing with Comedy Bang Bang.
There are a lot of guests I find really funny but when I check out their stand up it's always dissappointing.
New CBB guest can be grating now bc they're often political or leftists entrenched in the culture war. One ep from last year featured a painfully unfunny female improviser doing a hacky "toxic male businessman" character and I had to turn it off. If only men actually acted as "toxic" as these delusional morons pretend they do.
Yeah I still skip some eps. There was a troony on one last year that I instantly skipped. James Adomian doing Tom Leykis was just mocking "toxic masculinity" but he was hillarious so it can work. Lisa Gilroy is one of the funniest women in recent memory (and is a qt).
Gilroy's Dicky Donnelly character is fricking hilarious. Lily Sullivan is funny, as well. Her Bridget Jones bit kills me. I just wish the improvisors would shut up about politics and focus on being funny.
Dicky is great. Apparently she did a spin off as him on cbb presents but I'm not subscribed.
What the frick are you talking about?
>I follow comedy to be offended
kys
bad opinion
>Seinfeld was funnier in the show
no shit because that's when Larry David was writing for him
They had a whole room of writers. Stfu already with your made-up bullshit. Larry David has a room of writers for Curb, too.
yea that's how tv shows work
>bad opinion
>doesn’t explain why
Bad response.
>Larry David was writing for him
Did I say he wrote them alone? No fricking shit Larry David is the writer of Seinfeld, do you think he came up with everything by himself?
And Seinfeld WAS in fact funnier in the show than in his stand up. Your reply is not the counterpoint you thought it was.
You need to raise your IQ a couple standard deviations before you decide to be an annoying nitpicking homosexual.
>There’s a reason why we laugh way harder at something somebody said impromptu irl than at any pre written joke delivered by a comedian
>Seinfeld was funnier in the show
?????? that wasn't improv lmfao homie wtf but I agree with comedians being funnier on radio/podcasts, as long as they aren't testing bits, which Louis CK often did on shows like O&A.
No fricking shit. I didn’t give examples about improvised things irl, I gave examples of non stand up settings that are funnier than stand up.
Norm’s podcasts/shows were hilarious but Hitler’s Dog is one of the greatest standup specials of all time.
>really? you don't know about life? how it gets worse and worse until it ends in catastrophe?
The bit about George Washington and the cherry tree gets me every time too
I saw Chris Rock live last year. He's pretty good. This was a few months after the Will Smith slap so he didn't talk much about it, but I like that he actually wraps up his jokes and anecdotes quickly, unlike Dave "Let me go get a cigarette and blog post for 10 minutes before I deliver a totally underwhelming punchline" Chappelle
Wish he had the balls to be edgy again like in Bring the Pain. Maybe the GI Jane joke was him testing the waters.
I have no idea who told Dave Chapelle (and Bill Burr) that he’s a genius, they probably meant he was a comedy genius and the homie now thinks he’s socrates
Chapelle and Burr are both copying the schtick that Ron White's been doing for decades
The difference is Ron actually does it well, he makes the style work
Moron, releasing hot air. Please stop.
> the audience is laughing.
Most of the time, no. A lot of netflix comedians especially use canned applause.
comedians have had their balls chopped off. you can't be edgy or challenge status quo anymore unless you're fine working clubs into your 60s
Do you think North Korean stand-up is funny? What about Chinese in the middle of the cultural revolution? Mid 17th century puritan stand-up?
If someone actually had the balls to do real standup in those scenarios and take the piss out of the leadership, knowing full well the repercussions, it would be very based and funny.
stewart lee
only correct answer itt
Only comedy worth watching is about trannies and blacks, especially when performed by a hoodray
you know something like
>yo I was in club deh otha nite
>shit was fire yo, shout out to my homies in detroit, ur clubs are cash yo
>so i met a big girl rite
>we gotz to dancin, playin, she strong, she keepin up
>then imma bout to finna dab on dat ass but i gots to lay down dem movez first, feel me
>so I offer to buy hur a drank and I axe hur whats her poison and she says
>*dark Black person voice* YO LEMME GET UH
>*bonk mic on knee*
>I gotta stop drinkin man! A homie can slip up!
dave chapelle?
no
kek
lmao
chuds, accept trans-rights
based
dilate
>*bonk mic on knee*
Accurate, why do they all do that?
Extremely good post.
pretty funny actually
put me in the screencap
Mark Normand is very good from the newer crowd.
He flies in with tons of jokes and is refreshing to watch after slogging through boomers like Chappelle who just phone in every special now.
Nobody is really funny for the whole hour anymore. If they just did half hours again we’d have some strong standup. Nate bargatze is the best working comedian at the moment.
Eww. No. Go away, Nate.
>The audience is laughing but I have no idea why.
Because they think they're supposed to.
what is going on in this thread
trannies hate standup coz of chapelle so they shit up any comedian thread.
why tho? lil'chappy punches sideways
>he says while shitting up the comedian thread
there are funny guys that do comedy but most of the time their act stinks
I never understood how he blew up. Yeah his older stand up specials were okay but I completely missed it when he came super popular and gossip about his personal life. It was funny seeing people only shit on him about his drug problems a few years ago though.
John Pinette is the funniest comedian ever
James Acaster
Daniel Sloss
Kyle Kinane
Bill Burr
Louis CK
Bo Burnham
Shane Gillis
Mike Birbiglia
Stewart Lee
Jerrod Carmichael
Norm Macd- oh... nevermind
Norm MacDonald
Patrice O'Neal
Doug Stanhope
Mitch Hedberg
Dave Chappelle
Better list. Why no Giraldo?
>Why no Giraldo?
don't remember ever seeing anything from him that wasn't a roast
Burr and some shitpiles. CK will never get the cancel chip off his shoulder. He'll being doing bitter shit like Rosanne.
Kinane gave up comedy to be the MC for Comedy Central.
Bo Burnham is an enormous homosexual
yup, pretty funny one too
Comedy is hard, people have put up so many mental defenses that getting people to actually laugh involuntarily without the guise of a large room of people or just getting 'clapter' is almost impossible. Everyone thinks just because they can make their friends or coworkers laugh, magically they're a comedian. The more people that think comedy and stand up is just a simple one person podcast or a soapbox for twitter opinions can be happy they are aiding in the death of laughter.
I kinda like Sam Morril
Plenty of comedians are funny, including John Mulaney. Don't misinterpret your nihilist lack of humor negative attitude as there being no funny comedians. You homosexuals sit around crying and waving your fist in the air all day and wonder why everything is so bad when the answer is crystal clear: things are bad, you're just a shitty negative person who can't enjoy anything.
it's pretty clear this is true by all the morons laughing at this
unfunny shit
seething failed white comedian lmao
maybe you can get a job writing feminist troony shit on marvel
?
I think he’s pretty funny. I saw him live back in December. Only comedy show I’ve been to
I've seen a bunch of Taylor Tomlinson bits on youtube shorts and they've been okay.
My older brother thinks John Mulaney isn’t funny but his favorite comedian is Tony Hinchcliffe so I don’t take him too serious.
Stewart Lee's Content Provider is great, I suppose its even better if you're from England
his entire catalogue including the comedy vehicle shows on bbc 2 are so far beyond all the "used to be daytime tv but now it's ironic" and "big laff" stadium shit that passes for british comedy now.
For me, its Lee calling William Wallace a gay pedo for 15 minutes to Scots in Glasgow
>that fat jock with glasses in the front row visibly seething the entire time
kek
>average Cinemaphile poster
as a scotch person, it's a really great routine, but jungle canyon rope bridges is the one that really does it for me
I thought the one about him accidentally gettinh a prostate exam was pretty funny
I like that bit but I don’t get the end part where he says the guy was wearing glasses to show that time had passed
the bit where he's accidentally chasing a woman in a subway made me tear up. that's the only thing he's done that made me laugh
otherwise, louis ck has some good bits. he's the only one, and even then not always. stand up is just a really weird format imo, situational comedy is better because it's more organic
PEANUT ALLERGY?
MAYBE ITS A SIGN FROM GOD YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LIVE
Cinemaphile is too bitter (and possibly too zoomer?) for comedy
Kevin Hart is the funniest one.
Top tier genius comedians
>Stephen wright
>Mitch hedberg
>Red fox
>Richard Pryor
>Sinbad
Personal favorites not for everyone(the previous aren't for everyone but most can recognize they're good for a reason)
>Zach galifinakis(live at the purple onion is solid)
>Nick swardson
>Tommy Ryman
>Shane gillis(he's an insufferable douche off the stage and lately becoming more of one on the stage)
>Patrice o'neal
>Deon Cole
And I forgot Ron White
does gillis have good bits from before his specials? that i can hear? i cannot figure out the hype
From the few bits I've seen, Taylor Tomlinson is actually funny
I personally hate the guys that tell a story (that didn't happen) for 10 minutes with no punchline. Hilarious.
