The aesthetic of fallout is really cool but it's inherently 'videogamey' I think, wow big surprise. Seeing that world in live action is just going to feel extremely cheap especially since they seem to be going for more of the brighter fallout 4 / 76 route. I unironically think a New Vegas series would work pretty well, aesthetically at least. It's a lot more grounded visually instead of shoving brand images in your face constantly

I need a mod that makes Fallout environment outside of the settlements exactly like the glowing sea. I recently started 4 for the first time and holy shit, so much potential. The atmosphere, radiation, mutants, wrecked buildings is what ALL of fallout should be.

Not to sound like a shill. But I think F4 style power armour is way better then before. It actually fells like a walking tank. and the customisation is nice. Aldough as you know locations it's easy to MinMax shelfspam my hated
4 was definitely a huge step up for power armor. You felt like a god in that thing, as you should. I loved clearing raiders tunnels with fire bombs and heavy machine gun Vietnam style. Then hacking through ghoul hoards with a serrated machete.

I think there's a good shot it will be a decent show, West world was good and this is the same guy, and the trailer looked promising on various technical merits.
However as a big Fallout fan, I think I'll hate it.
I loved the lore of the games, and of course the Western games too, like two and New Vegas.
And it seems that this show is retconning all of it.
And it is confirmed canon to the games' plot.
There hasn't been any mention of the NCR despite being set in LA. And a bunch of Brotherhood of Steel stuff, which shouldn't be there per the lore of the FNV.
Also changes like having mutated-non-ghouls, like the cyclops seen in the trailer will bug the shit out of me, despite making full sense. It's technically a retcon and I hate it.
So yeah, for soft-fans and average viewers it will probably be good, but I think I'll not like it

I don't think they actually could make A Boy and His Dog in the current day unless they got Lanthimos or some other perverse European to direct it even though it has genuine themes that can be identified as being relevant through a modern lens (everyone still clinging to cinema despite the world blowing up, the underground society being a hoot, the casual relation between sex and violence) just because the old 'having a women see A Boy and his Dog is like having a israelite watch a film that showcases Dachau's modern amenities in full technicolor' or however it went. To be frank having slavers or raiders as a major antagonist would work around the distinct lack of sexual assault the protagonist is capable of, there's Cook Cook and so on.
Just don't make the protagonist a rapist and it's all good. After all Furry Road was chock-full of implied rape and the audiences loved it.
But I honestly believe another adaptation of the novel could be made today with no problem. Harlan Ellison certainly had what it takes to succeed in Hollywood, if you know what I mean. People like him tend to be immune to criticism.

I would really love to have seen Lynch give it a shot. The twin peaks style could lend itself well to it if they could resist the cgi impulse and just localize it in a small area. Going on an adventure, meeting strange people everywhere and seeing how they interact. We all know Fallout combat has always sucked so minimizing it would be fine.
