Which focuses on narrative criticism and NOT (like picrel) on politics and message? There are tons of videos about GoT finale, ST Star Wars but I can't find anything similar about HP.

this video is based though. rowling was always a c**t
I'm trans btw
thought so too but then i watched the counter argument. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILBW2uC1ibI&ab_channel=RickWorley
Rowling did nothing wrong.
"No!"
It’s a children’s move . What’s to critique ?
The representation of overweight people in a negative light.
The representation of POC as exotic and not worthy of being main characters.
Transphobia, the idea that changing someone's form is somehow negative.
Dear sir (YWNBAW), Reddit is the other way.
>The representation of overweight people in a negative light.
Whats the problem?
>The representation of POC as exotic and not worthy of being main characters.
The only one I can recal is a name Cho-Chang and that one black girl but I dont tecall them beeing presented as Exotic or anything.
>Transphobia, the idea that changing someone's form is somehow negative
Exept that polymorph juice i dont recall any othe way of changing a form. Besides in the books it is shown that polymorph juice is used to impersonate someone.
>The representation of overweight people in a negative light.
All overweight people will, sooner or later, develop medical issues related to their size, so showing fatties in a negative light is good, because it is telling the truth.
>The representation of POC as exotic and not worthy of being main characters.
It plays in 1990s Britain. Most of the population was white. It also made a big point about being anti-racist, but the racism in the universe presents differently than in skin colour (magical blood vs. non-magical blood),
>Transphobia, the idea that changing someone's form is somehow negative.
That is not even in the books. Transforming oneself into an animal is lauded as a rare and amazing feat.
You’ve never even read them, have you?
>The representation of overweight people in a negative light.
Fat people are worse. They have less control over their emotions and more easily give in to them, which is why they are often more violent. Making a character have brown or blonde hair doesn't necessarily tell me anything about them, but making a character fat is a short cut to tell readers that this person is lazy and driven by greed.
>making a character fat is a short cut to tell readers that this person is lazy and driven by greed.
Based
You dont need a video for that.
Just read the fricking books: they are shit-tier teen novels. Wizards are unironically moronic and the last 2 books were all about some random legend bullshit she had to pull out her c**t to make Voldy actually threatening
>they are shit-tier teen novels
They were Dickens-themed children’s books. That goes over the head of everyone complaining they aren’t advanced literature.
I agree
it is a shame the movies came out so soon into the books becoming popular and also that the last one was so weak otherwise I think it would be perfectly suited to being one of those classics of British literature like Dickens or Dahl
I don't need it but it would be fun to hear about it. And it's just plain weird that there isn't something like this for the franchise this popular.
I'm starting to get sick as frick of people making a career talking about shows and movies.
Youtube is making me feel ill for every one OC video there's 20 "analysing evil: Gus fring" and moana, deepdive
It's getting saturated but many of this videos are legitimately better than the new shows and films.
This garbage only exists because Youtube promotes it.
not longform that i’m aware of but watch some of harold bloom’s criticism of harry potter if you want to see the series criticised on literary grounds.
>if you want to see the series criticised on literary grounds.
"Yes!"
Harold Bloom clearly didn't even read it though
Why do you think so?
Because of this bit of the meme quote:
>As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
>I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous.
It's not true at all, that phrase appears once in the entire franchise.
you should be able to spot all kinds of problems as you read the books first time. why do you need a video essayist to do it for you?
>why do you need a video essayist to do it for you
The same reason I pretty much replaced watching blockbusters with watching their reviews - it's just more fun and interesting.
I've been there.
unfortunately the only real difference is that criticism of bad movies is based on flattering you're intelligent, while bad movies themselves are based on assuming you're dumb.
the golden age of media video essays is probably already over, with Ellis getting cancelled, RLM doing either low-effort or obvious shill content, and a bunch of others doing anti-woke content about only the most popular releases because it's where the clicks are.
they can still be fun but it's also a microbiome totally dependent on corporate ad revenue like the movies they shit on.
>Ellis getting cancelled
What happened to her? Was she a SJW who still got cancelled?
>RLM doing either low-effort or obvious shill content
Huh?
RLM can't even be bothered to go to the cinema any more, they only review films when they come out on streaming. Dunno what he means about shill content though.
>>RLM doing ... obvious shill content
>Huh?
they just did a positive plinkett review (never happened before) of the most recent Halloween movie (which is terrible).
This movie was not very good but more interesting than I thought. And Plinkett's comeback at the very and was a nice addition.
She said something about squinting at some detail in Shang chi to understand so her own people on twitter immediately accused her of making buckteeth and going ME SO SOLLY NIP NONG CHING CHONG in the camera for an hour so she ran. Then she got some shitty sci-fi published that straight flopped
She canceled so many people she ended up cancelling herself.
It will never stop being funny when it happens to some leftist trash.
There's an orthodox Christian icon carver named Jonathan pageau who does lectures on symbolism and iconography in popular myths and stories, and he's done a lot on Harry Potter and the symbolism inside if that interests you. You don't have to be Christian to enjoy it or understand him but if you're pathologically averse to anything Christianity related you might not like it. It's not a plot critique but an exploration of symbolism
Funny how all these homosexual manchildren and women who used to love HP have completely turned against it because of the author's twitter account. HP was always dogshit but now it doesn't get a rose tinted free pass anymore. And you are right, none of these videos ever touch on how badly written and full of plotholes HP is. Only how butthurt the trannies are at realizing JK Rowling is not a troony lover.
>Funny how all these homosexual manchildren and women who used to love HP have completely turned against it because of the author's twitter account
Yeah, I remember when HP was criticized mostly on conservative/religious grounds. But the steamroller of SJW revolution still moves to the left and crushes everyone standing in its way.
but he does critique the narrative, specifically how rowling writes setups without payoffs, fails to give her characters agency in the plot, and is a bad author because she gets pissy at fans picking apart her poorly planned story by doing some clumsy narrative fix in the following book.
it ends up becoming political because the alleged central theme of the book is about politics. you can't avoid talking about the politics of the author of a book whose main narrative is about 'a corrupt government gets taken over by an even more corrupt evil overlord'. what's he supposed to critique instead, all the padding and filler like when the kids make a field trip to the local candy shop?
>but he does critique the narrative
Yes but not as the main point.
>what's he supposed to critique instead
Plot holes, inconsistencies, problems with world building etc.
What do you need to know? What can possibly be said that hasn't already been said about one of the dullest franchises in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.
>a-at least the books were good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
>"No!"
autist moment
why do you need to be told an opinion you already have?
I like Fanalysis
Reminder that all of Cinemaphile used to agree harry potter sucked before Rowling came out as a transphobe
No convictions, in the terminally online world only contrarianism matters
I know that Alex did the moviesm but I want a proper review per book.
>Why don't you do it anon
Because I sound like a drunk wienerney and know frick all about making videos
>A BLUH BLUH CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY I DONT LIKE A BABY CARTOON BACK TO ME
How bout you try articulating your problem with it yourself, chief?

Not longform content, but a booktuber known as Merphy Napier did some videos as she read Harry Potter for the first time that I recall watching through a few years ago. She's a bit too nice about it, though, in my opinion, due to it being a children's series, and how she is, I believe, in general, though.
Never heard about it, gonna check her out.
>showing fatties in a negative light is good, because it is telling the truth
Absolutely based.
>She's a bit too nice about it, though, in my opinion, due to it being a children's series, and how she is, I believe, in general, though.
Fricking hell mate save some commas for the rest of us
Kek'd.
I hate zoomers so much it's unreal.
MALE
hehe
you liked them but you feel you shouldn't because they are, what? Feminine? Gay? Reddit?
The Plinkett reviews ruined a generation
