It's also that the GA mostly checked out after Endgame. That was the "complete story", the long hinted at main villain goes down as multiple of the OG heroes go down in a heroic sacrifice.

    >GOTG 3 the second highest earning movie this year and only Mission Impossible and maybe The Marvels having a chance to beat it
MCU is fine, the general audience is just more selective now, they can’t put out garbage and expect to make billions, see: Ant Man 3.

GOTG3 is the exception now, not the rule.
All their new shit has tanked
Even L&T tanked despite having the only remaining old guard hero in the title.

L&T would have made a ton more if it was considered a good movie, which further proves my point of audiences being more selective. GOTG had fantastic WOM, and would you look at that, it made a lot of money and is still earning.

GOTG3 did poorly compared to the previous two installments, that was their last chance in having a potential comeback. You just have to accept the fact that all franchises and series have their peaks and we’re past it.

        >GOTG3 did poorly compared to the previous two installments
homies what are you talking about? Vol. 3 isn't even out of theaters yet at it's at $822.5 million, Vol. 2 hit 869 million. Vol. 3 will likely just about outperform its predecessor, which is actually quite incredible for a post-covid film.

Personally I think the others stuff looks lame, but GotG Vol.3 in no way under-performed. Step out of the youtube hatewatcher algorithm for a minute.

I remember when people said that about Captain Marvel.

Obviously this one doesn’t have Endgame boosting it up. But I still won’t be shocked if it pulls solid numbers. If Secret Invasion ends up being a hit that would really help it.

An important tactic of the party is the destruction of language. In this case rendering every possible definition of "Woke" down to "what we disapprove of." without of course breaking down why it should be disapproved. Instead this disapproval and the reasons for it are treated as self evident with no need for discussion or introspection. When the party wants your opinion, they'll give it to you.

They're screwed if The Marvels doesn't win audiences over. Black Widow, Shang-Chi, Eternals and Quantumania tanked badly. Thor 4 and Black Panther 2 made money but did worse than their predecessors. No Way Home was a fricking huge surprise and made that big dick Maguire money but most of it went to Sony and Dr Strange 2 was only successful because of the Multiverse hype. Bad word of mouth stopped it from hitting a billion. Hell, even GOTG3 struggled to begin with. If not for good word of mouth, it could have sunk. I honestly think Marvel are fricked now.

I really think it could if they got someone perfect as the focus character instead of an ensemble. Like I could see a really solid Cyclops, Rogue or Gambit centric movie making decent bucks

    The issue is,
    1) thick agenda. People want to be entertained at the cinema, not lectured.
    2) shitty and fake directors that make people with eyes actually wonder if they are directing anything or they're just paid to put their name in the credits, and the studio is the one directing.
    3) Characters and arcs nobody cares about. I couldn't care less about Eternals, or Thor's solo movie (name two out of the 4 he got that weren't shit), or oh jeez Wanda is defeated by little children throwing pillows at her noooo.
    4) I'm not paying overpriced tickets and drinks, for all of the above. Much less so in the absolute garbage economy we're at with all the aid packages bullshit and the whole "oh no, bird flu, gonna have to set fire to all the chicken factories, yup yup" and chicken now costs X2 of what it did 4 years ago, despite 0 bird flu cases happening before, during or after. Basically I don't have money to waste on something you did not put any effort into.

Yes. They can cancel all productions right now, wait a couple of years, and reboot the entire MCU starting with a remake of Iron Man. Add in just enough changes to make it appear clever. Make every movie in the same order, ending with Endgame. Then repeat the process.
The real value of the Multiverse is not to make complicated dimensional-travel stories that give headaches to normies. It's to sell the same thing over and over again while claiming to do something new.

      Anonymous

But isn't that one of the reasons the comic side is slowly dying for decades now? This is like repeating that cycle again

        Anonymous

I would say the reason comics are dying is because they've become impenetrable to those outside of the hobby. I called this back when the first MCU shows started on Disney. The MCU is becoming homework. It requires too much investment.
The MCU has already found just how much of a cinematic universe the mainstream will tolerate. They already have a good skeleton of a story that they can make superficial changes on, and have a good excuse to do it. It took just over a decade to finish, meaning there is a fresh batch of 10 year olds who haven't seen any of this.
Start with Iron Man. Choose a few different heroes for the Avengers. There are infinite universes, and infinite combinations of teams defeating Thanos in an infinite of ways. Just do it.

Am I the only person who liked Eternals? It's been the only movie this phase that genuinely tried to do something new.
Sure it failed at it, but it tried. And I'd rather watch genuine attempts that suck over lukewarm color by numbers successes.

      Moose

Yes, very likely. It was genuinely one of their worst movies by a country mile.
      >Cast that is way too large.
      >They spend so long with them acting like family but they never feel like family and feel more like strangers forced together.
      >They constantly talk about old events we have no context for and then like an hour later suddenly we get 10+ minute flashbacks of stuff we do not care about at all.
      >Half the actors feel like they're only there for a paycheck, especially Angelina Jolie.
      >Gay black man, Bollywood man, and bootleg Wu are the only likable characters at all.
      >A majority of the characters outside of Superman have powers that are supposed to be godlike but feel like they could be beaten by a mutant.
      >Game of Thrones man was so unbearable I hated every scene he was in despite the actor clearly trying.
      >They blast by the "Deviants gaining sentience" stuff to rush to push Superman as the big bad.
      >Fights are a blur at times, they snap to hits that disorient you, make the Eternals look like a complete joke, make you question how any of them took down an entire planet of these things, and make everyone including Superman look underpowered.
      >Even then Superman completely trounces almost everyone including mute Flash.
The only good part was the celestial stuff, that stuff was genuinely cool.

The story would be more successful if Ms Marvel was in the first Avengers, Why it would be better? Because we would have more actors more in tune with the characters, less freedom for directors like Taika and Gunn, more fidelity to the comics, but they decided to go the other way and now I think it's really over, especially with the people who are there, they are more worried about an Oscar than making products that will please the fans.
