I enjoyed it but it's not a perfect adaptation. It's worth seeing in imax
This. Better than anything else that’s been released lately, will be much less impressive outside of imax. Feels like it’s made for the platform and will lose most of its grandeur and impressive delivery without it.
It's overpraised. Wait a few weeks. if it's a good movie, it will still be a good movie then.
It's hard not to be enamored by the spectacle, especially at the ending. It is a well crafted ending at all fronts: visuals, sound, music, performance, with fantastic acting from Chalamet that hammers the power of Kwisatz Haderach. We'll have to see how it holds the test of time as the spectacle of it all simmers down. I think it'll hold up well though.
I think that unless part 3 gets made and released, it's not likely to be remembered too far into the future.
Why would it not be made?
If part 2 doesn't make enough profit for the execs to buy another couple of vacation homes.
Considering Part 1 made $30 million after re release they can still milk enough money with Re-releases, streaming, digital and international rights that making a trilogy will become inevitable
I'm a huge Dune fan, but the truth is the best part of Dune is the first half of the first book. After that it is some degree of downhill. Messiah is where things start to get okay-ish, and God Emperor is where it becomes fully 'love it or hate it'.
I just finished the first book. I thought the 2nd half was a better read as its the climax of the story. My favorite chapters though were the Harkonnen chapters by far. Was definitely cool to see how multidimensional the Baron was. He's fat and greedy, but also smart and constantly thinking, but he's not immune to mistakes either and he makes a major mistake talking about how he was planning on making Arrakis a prison planet to the Count. I think the weirdest part is Paul's character though. He spends the entire book thinking of how he wants to prevent the jihad, but then he just kind of accepts its going to happen at the end.
>God Emperor
Leto II
The super genius that holds the galaxy completely within his grasp....
Has been ruling for so long and so effortlessly that he has almost turned into Homer Simpson, and the only thing that keeps him sharp is that Duncan sometimes get creative with the assassination attempts
Its fricking great.
Why wasn't he named Dunecan?
>It's hard not to be enamored by the spectacle, especially at the ending
it's easy to not be enarmored by the ending when you have the typical dumb hollywood two armies russhing against each other without rhyma or reason
What always gets me is they don't know how to set up villains any more. By the time they come face to face no tension or suspense for the final battle has been mustered up.
how can there be any tension at all when the villain has no character traits except for being evil
Brits criticism but even with that you can still create tension.
It feels like a big moment when Obi-wan finally sees Vader in ANH, and when Luke sees Vader in ESB, and when you finally see the Emperor in RotJ
Or in LotR or Harry Potter Sauron and Voldemort are like this intense and abrasive danger lurking in the shadows like an unavoidable creeping doom. Hell, just think about the scene where the Ring wraiths peak over that log while Frodo and the gang are hiding underneath it. Instant classic and everyone in the theater was dead silent completely lost in the moment.
Hell, even confronting Imhotep in both Mummy movies felt like: "Oh shit, here we go."
They just can't do that anymore and I don't know why.
vader was believable as a prussian offer with magic powers given their conference on the death star. tarkin didnt destroy alderaan because of sadism but because he was keen to test the death star.
compare with the harkonnens. they're cartoon characters.
It's not bad by no means, it has its moments but I was not impressed visually. It functions as a movie which is some achievement.
Arrakis has no character in this movie, they failed to make it look interesting, in general they made it too much about characters and not about the unique and weird world - which doesn't work because Zendayas and Timothées empty faces fail to carry it.
With better actors slow camera work would extract some subtext, here it's mostly a waste of running time - you leave cinema after 3 hours and I think that suprisingly not much happened.
>By No means
Esl detected
>I was not impressed visually
That’s probably the most impressive thing about
>Arrakis has no character in this movie, they failed to make it look interesting
It's a fricking desert with worms. Arrakis doesn't become interesting until it becomes Rakis
The official trailer using the hype technique of tons of superlatives in bold text followed by the names of the reviewers in the tiniest fonts because theyre all no-name nobodies should already tell you which demographic it's being marketed at. For example, who the frick is "Big J," when was "Big J" ever relevant in film criticism? Who the frick cares
>For example, who the frick is "Big J," when was "Big J" ever relevant in film criticism? Who the frick cares
kek
the hatred of big jay has to stop RIGHT NOW
BIg J is one of the most tenured, well-respected critics around. He's been relevant for a long time now. Heck, I remember when he was just "j"
His name is big israelite, a well known critic from new york
>who the frick is "Big J,"
hey cool it with the antisemitism
Does anyone know where I can see this movie?
In theatres
Overhyped but still good and worth watching. In this generation of ADHD manchild freaks, making a movie filled with spectacle and rapid editing is the most effective way of impressing people and inviting them to call everything a masterpiece. Everything Everywhere All at Once, Spider-Verse, Dune 2, Barbie, etc.
>In this generation of ADHD manchild freaks, making a movie filled with spectacle and rapid editing is the most effective way of impressing people and inviting them to call everything a masterpiece.
I hate the impression that rapid editing is bad or are there to only appease low attention span audience or that slow cinema is inherently better.
Barbie isn't even fast edited. It has a standard editing. Slow cinema isn't more intellectual. The proof is Dune and it's the same tier of slop as Barbie and Spiderverse.
I thought the editing was fine
only torrent up for this is shitty cam recorded
Why would you want to watch this on a shitty tv screen? I torrent almost everything, but this is obviously meant to be seen in IMAX.
i have a theatre like setup at home, except i get to be alone
ehh imax is overrated. A good 4k oled tv is where's it at
This is true, especially with my nice headphones, but you need a 4k copy and that is like 20+ GB
Not happening this week
>Movie released few days ago does not have good quality torrent
No shit moron, wait for the blu-ray or VOD release
i know, but by then it'll be on streaming sites like fmovies so no point to torrent. whole reason i wanted to torret was so that i wouldnt have to wait 6 months. perhaps there'll be a torrent before then
The onlyway to good quality torrent is for a good quality release outside of theatres. VOD would be the earliest source which for big movies like these usually are at least 2 months from theatrical release date
I refuse to believe anyone hyping this shit. I watched the first one the other night and it’s some of the most boring long winded overhyped crap I’ve ever seen. It’s clearly meant to be experienced as a book and not as a film because there was nothing to care about. Books are about exposition and the experience of the authors writing style to paint a picture. The film is a soulless uninteresting journey with bland uninspired art direction and zero attempt at intrigue.
And everyone hails it as genius because they’re riding Denis’s dick, and now the sequel is one of the best films of all time? Get the frick out of here.
I have seen pretty much everything walking this Earth, including people who prefered the Lynch's version of Dune or considering Argylle a better, more fun movie. You seem like the type that will have an absolute blast watching Argylle.
Nailed him right on the head
>NOOOO DONT TELL ME THE EMPEROR IS WEARING NO CLOTHES I NEED TO FEEL SPECIAL AND SMART NOOOOOOOOOOO
Bro has the attention span of a zoomer. They're both great movies. Sadly it seems your mother shares a lot with Lady Jessica, since they both seem to have taken drugs while pregnant
I rewatched Dune part one, last night. It was mediocre.
If you take one leg from a man, and he doesn't walk well with only the other, do you then say the leg he still has is worthless?
my least favorite kind of post on this board. just a moron stringing adjectives together, confuses the arid setting for an uninspired art direction. bleak
>my least favorite kind of post on this board. just a moron stringing adjectives together, confuses the arid setting for an uninspired art direction. bleak
Pot kettle black.
Shills are in overdrive in these dunc threads
I can tell you didn't watch Lawrence of Arabia
You’re literally a gay ass shill
The first one was very bad. The only good scene was the mosquito assassin. This one is actually good this time, people think it's not as good as the books but it managed to be entertaining.
Spot on, modern flicks aren't made to last the ages. You aren't supposed to think about them after you get home from the theatre. They leave no lasting impression on the psyche or the soul. No child will ever be inspired to chase some dream by watching this flick. It will be forgotten the moment the next artificially propped up thing shows up on peoples social media feeds.
> Books are about exposition and the experience of the authors
Lol wut? This is why chuds can’t make art.
The Dune book is pure exposition moron
>I watched the first one the other night
In other words, you had it on in the background while you browsed /trash/
Denis is just another Nolan.
McBurger "auteur" making bland blockbusters.
His movies are sterile and empty inside.
It's a fine movie. People b***h about girlboss Chani who is way overbearing for a tribal woman living in the desert. People liked the Harkonen planet section but I thought it was too long and the weird visuals overstayed their welcome. There is a duel at the end, people liked it but I thought it was overchoreographed.
You already made up your mind so why bother
The hype is all truth.
There's unnecessary repetition and they somewhat muddled the standard space opera twist where everyone is related.
In the books is Paul also revealed to be Baron's grandson?
I don't remember this in the 1984 movie
Yes. I can't remember if it's in the 1984 movie.
It is. abomination baby Alia calls him grandfather before sticking him with gom jabbar but Lynch doesn’t explain it.
Jessica was supposed to have a daughter who would marry a Harkonen and their child would be the Kwisatz Haderach. She gives the Duke a son because she genuinely loves him.
She was supposed to marry one of her cousin?
Correct. Instead of "family tree" think "family bush."
Bene Gesserit are trying to create an individual with very specific genes. This obviously requires inbreeding at times.
He is and the reveal happens right after Duke Leto's death when Jessica and Paul are in the tent. In the book his all-seeing eye horseshit is a lot more prominent early on even without the Water of Life powerup
homie, dune is the reason space operas exist, it started this trend.
The sound design is amazing.
Timothy Chalamet is the weak link in both films until he finally decides to be an actor in the final act of part 2. He could be great but defaults to staring blankly and passively for so much of both movies.
If you think for a second or two, you might realize that the way he acts prior to the final act of part 2 is down to the director. He was probably told to act the way he acts. He clearly can act differently. I think it's done to create a contrast between Paul before Water of Life and after. Paul doesn't drastically change after Water of Life in the book, because he has already changed due to the high spice intake. In the movie, the change due to the spice isn't depicted as clearly.
I did find it hilarious they added bass to the twinks voice in the final act to make him appear more mature/commanding.
That was his actual voice, he talked more softly before the Water of Life on purpose. Like him or not he is a trained actor
No way that was 100% his real voice
The person you responded to is a simping homosexual, ignore him.
It was worth a watch. Really long but the time goes by without dragging.
Chani and the princess felt off at points. Chani especially seemed to be obstinate for the sake of theme instead of believability after a point. Those are my only complaints. Geidi Prime with the black sun was a neat take visually.
Saw it yesterday and today with different friend groups but won't see it a third time in theaters.
So if you are interested go see it.
I just don't think Dune looks interesting. I've never had any desire to read the book or watch the older movie. It looks like boring science fantasy in a desert and I hate deserts.
Great attitude.
All movie hype is mostly fake. Done by bots and paid shills.
You have more information available to you than someone in the 90s who only had commercials and McDonald's collector's cups.
>McDonald's collector's cups
Soul?
>tfw dont live in burger land and couldnt get Worm Fleshlight popcorn
Can I watch DUNC on that screen while they put me to sleep?
Im so sorry about your head injury. Please recover soon.
Only thing that kind of dimishes the experience is that both parts were released 3 years apart. If it had been filmed all at once like Lord of the Rings and released back to back, I feel like it would've been more effective experiencing it.
Even LOTR was not shot all at once moron, parts of the sequel were shot before at best
This. It would be fine if the movies were self contained satisfying stories. The original star wars trilogy was done over 9 years but you could rewatch each installement endlesslly. I saw dune 2 this week and it was awesome but I wouldn't want to rewatch either part on its own. Binging the 3 movies in one night when that's possible will be the most kino way to experience this trilogy
I'm seeing it in 3 hours
enjoy anon
>hype
I thought this word meant the state of anticipation before a movie's release.
I know Dune was a big inspiration for Star Wars, but from what I've heard it seems to be mostly the parts I like the least without what I enjoy the most.
Star Wars has almost zero elements from Dune. Star Wars's real influence were what you probably already know about - Buck Rodgers, Dambusters, WW2 era serials.
The Hunter Seeker scene made me realize that's why Jango tries to kill Padme with the droid filled with worm things.
Star Wars is for kids, Dune is meant for adults. That's not a bad thing but the influences are completely different
Star Wars
>Flash Gordon
>Westerns/Samurai movies
>Hero's Journey
>WW2 Dogfight Footage
Dune:
>Lawrence of Arabia
>The Sabres of Paradise
>The Prophet Muhammad's life
>LSD
There was hardly any LSD
homie what?
The Force is literally just The Voice from Dune. All the melee/sword combat is what got you light sabers. Tatooine is literally just Arrakis without giant worms. All the different religious sects and great Houses clearly inspired the Jedi/Republic/Empire/Sith dynamics.
What a creatively bankrupt hack Lucas is was never more clear after reading Dune. It's why he never did anything but Star Wars.
Meant for
it was beautiful and entertaining throughout the whole runtime
it was fun to watch stilgar be a devoted madman, seeing the prophet no matter what paul did
nice to see they're planning a 3rd movie with the open ending
You stand out like dogs balls mate
It's enjoyable for a big budget Sci-Fi movie, it has spectacle and it's nice to watch a movie that doesn't constantly undercut it's own tension and characters with constant jokes
That said, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece or anything. It's honestly not even a movie I'll probably ever think about again after a few days, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun to watch
There are at least 5000 better movies and 10000 worse movies. It is the shining example of paint by the numbers appeal to the mean slop. Don't offend anyone, don't aspire to anything. Bing bing wahoo.
Low effort bait
I accept your concession.
I accept your immediate response as a full admission of low effort baiting
I accept your immediate response to my response as a dog showing its hindquarters to show submission.
>dune messiah is next
>the chapter of paul's teen sister doing intense sword training while nude
is that also the book where paul's son gets his fish armor or is that the next?
Children of Dune is where Leto II will get his trout armor, then start doing ninja stuff and break concrete with his fists.
oh yeah, that was pretty out there even in the context of dune's crazy world
for me it's the white women from space with their pet dogs that try to use their veganas to control the universe in book 5
for me, it was the Fish Speakers and their all-female orgies
Galactic hall monitors. Interplanetary schoolmarms. Used by Leto to henpeck humanity for 3000 years. A potent fighting force, they are not.
Hollywood isn't based enough for Alia x Duncan romance
I kinda hated it. Dozens of made up languages and cultures and fashions and machines and not a single human emotion in the entire thing. Paul and Chani had as much chemistry as Anakin and Padme.
>spanish IMDB (filmaffinity) has it at 8.2/10
Yeah it's kino, it has to be. No one gives enough of a shit to manipulate that score, those are real people voting
It's shit like the first one and all 3 important young women are ugly as shit. The mom is the ONLY conventionally attractive woman in the movie. This is superficial but I can't get over it.
I see no worth in seeing this. The characters are ugly, details are changed, etc. It's a film where the director jerks off for 2 hours and you won't enjoy it unless you're also a brainlet
The muvy was great but every time zandy was on screen it made me think of the mutt meme witch took me out of it
If you liked the first one, you'll like this one. Paul becomes a space pimp and makes them all kiss the ring. I think if you're a cool pimp you'll like this movie.
no there isnt. it's pretty much the same as the first dune except the long introduction of characters you know will not live long is missing which is the only thing that makes it a bit better
I thought it was l incredible. I went with my Dad who's in his mid 70s and thought he'd hate it because the plot is quite complicated (though DV does a fantastic job making it digestible) and there are long scenes where we just see the Fremen waging jihad or the Harkonnen being twats without huge amounts of dialogue, but after the film he said he thought it was excellent.
Definitely kino
> baron kisses the nephew
> nephew goes in for a second kiss
I'm glad they kept that in
I thought it was great but they should have made Feyd tongue-kiss him imo, would have been a more memorably imagery.
What's the point of marrying Irulan, when the great houses don't bow down to you? That was the whole point of the marriage, to legitimize Paul. I get that Chani is horrid looking in the movie, but that pig Florence is barely better looking. Paul should have married his mother.
>I get that Chani is horrid looking in the movie, but that pig Florence is barely better looking.
they both look 7/10
Actually pug looked decent in this
Pug literally had creases on her neck during scenes due to being so fat.
>Paul should have married his mother.
Would have been pure kino.
Its pretty good. For some reason people pretend the first Dune novel was some literacy masterpiece but its mostly standard genre fiction that sets the stage for the actually spicy parts of the series
It is like God came down to earth and adapted Jesus into a film. Unadulterated K I N O
(i have note seen it, first one also)
It's an ok movie, solid 6/10, Dunc 1 was 1/10 though.
>Is there any truth to this hype?
No I saw it today because I had a day off and was wandering past a cinema. I thought the first one was forgettable and this was no better, the color scheme is endless dull and the main actors and characters still make no impression. Dune 1984 is a far far far better film than either. The ratings are peak fake marketing scam bullshit. It was rated as the best film ever made on IMDB before anyone even saw it. The same forced worthless marketing that gave us disasters like the last starwars film trilogy all the while rating them highly for money, same with the last indiana jones and every form of capeshit crap. .all greats ratings and reviews and worthless awful shit
This post was written by an indian contractor for a PR firm hired by Sony Pictures btw
>This post was written by an indian contractor for a PR firm hired by Sony Pictures btw
Enough about (you) though
>DO NOT REDEEM DUNC TICKETS SAAR
>I WANDER PAST CINEMA AND LOOK THROUGH WINDOW IT IS DULL BLOODY BASTARD MOVIE
>I AM NORMAL AMERICAN MOVIEGOER SAAR PLEASE
Enough about (you) though
Also it cost me 32 euros for a seat and some popcorn and the cinema was pretty empty. It was far too expensive and yeah, frankly I regret paying to see it and should have gone for a fancy burger and a millkshake instead. Skip it and wait until it is out on pirate streams an you will probably fall asleep after the first 45 minutes (it picks up at the end but by then you just want it to end anyway
>it's bad because it's bad
worthless post
He went too far in saying that Lynch's Dune was better. It could've been believable bait otherwise. moronic sure, but he could've maybe caught someone
>Lynch's Dune was better
It is, far far better than either. That's exactly what I think. It is more emo zoomer brown snoozefest crap and seeing it in the cinema was too expensive and I did not have a great time because it was not a great film.
's Dune was better
>more emo zoomer brown snoozefest crap
You haven't watched either of the movies you're talking about. Terrible bait, amateur hour
Lynch dune while it has many flaws has a certain artistic touch that makes it endearing
I think the new dune is a better overall film though but some of the charm is missing but it makes up for it in other places
Its not 'bad' as in joke tier but it is not good because its too long and a log of it is people staring meaningfully and its relentlessly bland and brown for long sections. Like I say its forgettable like the first one and certainly not the greatest film ever made. There is not one single stand out actor in it or memorable line or role. Why are you attacking me and trying to promote it like you are being paid to?
>a log of it is people staring meaningfully
You have not seen this movie
I saw it today. Are these AI marketing bots? When will you morons in PR for these films realize you are destroying cinema by pimping these monuments to bland while you spend millions spamming here and making people like me despise you and now this film, which I paid to see..I can't voice my honest opinion now without you corporate c**ts swarming ? Frick off and die and take your shitty film with you./ I don;t know what studio made it and I don;t care. That's the last fricking time I pay to go into the cinema to be insulted by you fricks who are being paid with my money
>BLOODY BENCHOD BASTARDS
I white and Catholic for what it matters not that the endless and bland stale I don;t like what you say so I'll call you an indian and spam it five times is not stale to begin with and you started that the second I said I though it was forgettable. So you are being paid to shut down anyone making even the most innocuous comment about it? Let cinema die then, I will never pay to go to the cinema again because of the paid promotional posting in this thread that attacked me a paying customer. Stuff your mediocre film up your asses and frick off..
>white and Catholic
So brown?
I'm no dune fanatic. I haven't even read the first book. there's a lot of goofy shit in these films that doesn't work. but you're braindead if you think the film was bland or unsuccessful at evoking an alien world and setting
It's literally what it is.
99% of the runtime is closeups of faces and lingering dialogues that don't say anything.
le hyperbolic nerd that can't follow a narrative
Narrative is extremely basic, there is nothing to follow and no character developement, things just happen because plot requires it - since the movie is so emotionally sterile and doesnt bother to dwelve too much on fremen society we dont understand why exactly Paul decides to move south and accept the title of Mahdi. Was bombing sitch Tabr enough to change him, so it seems according to the movie?
Its just that Denis wastes our time showing empty faces of zendaya or timothe instead of doing le visual storytelling he supposedly loves so much.
>we dont understand why exactly Paul decides to move south and accept the title of Mahdi.
>Denis wastes our time showing empty faces of zendaya or timothe instead of doing le visual storytelling he supposedly loves so much.
There is a scene (visual) of him having a spice vision where he asks Jamis for guidance. He sees a vision (visual) of his unborn sister walking across a desert toward an ocean and she tells him to go south to drink the water of life. Just admit you didn't watch the movie zoom zoom.
>visual storytelling is when characters speak to main character to push the plot forward
Are you for real moronic?
>99% of the runtime is closeups of faces and lingering dialogues
This is factually incorrect and even if it wasn't it would still be a nonsensical criticism. The film is, if anything, immaculately paced and has multiple action set pieces. Step up your game here
I honestly don't understand why it was almost five and a half hours split into two movies.
It's just:
> Prince guy has magic powers
> Has to do test
> Dad gets new job
> Oh no Dad's dead
> Running away with Mom
> Get taken in by misfits
> Misfits like Mom
> The girl decides she likes him
> They make him ride a worm, now he's one of them
> Attack bad guy's nephew
> Bad guy mad at nephew for being pussy, psycho nephew in charge now
> Psycho nephew attack
> Retreat
> Do magic ritual
> Dude, you're the leader now
> Big Plan to fight the final boss
> It worked, lets fight the final boss
> Oh snap, we won
That could have easily fit into one movie. Without since making the movie 2 hours and 45 minutes was an option from the start.
>alternate universe where Denis dies one three hour movie instead of two
>10,000 threads about how he should've split it into two movies because it's too rushed just like Lynch's
The reality is that you people are too ill-disposed to enjoy anything
>Why people can't just enjoy mediocre "art" blockbuster, they must hate fun
If the maximum runtime for one movie the studio is willing to give you is 2,5 hours It should have been made a trilogy. The best option is the format of a miniseries, but Villehack wouldn't be interested in that as he is a "visionary" who hates dialog
>closeups of faces
>lingering dialogues
>lingering dialogues
>closeups of faces and lingering dialogues
Is this a new pasta I haven't seen before?
your autism causes you to not be able to understand people's facial reactions
what does this facial expression convey?
Some actors have faces that can carry a lot of diverse emotions at same instant - for audience to fill up the gaps according to their own sensibility.
It's not one of those faces, that's for sure.
>scowls
Chani was miscast
not enough quips and candy-colored marvel voids for you?
I enjoyed it but the soundtrack is overbearing and ends up ruining it
zendaya shows boobies
that's instant 9 10 for me
She doesn't though
It was peak kino up to the part where Paul rallies the fundies. From that point forward it's the typical Hollywood army clashing slop. Laser rifles are a thing in this universe but for some reason they're all rushing each other with swords and knives? On an open battlefield with no cover anywhere? Please
The soundtrack was pretty obnoxious too. If it was more beautiful/evocative and less BRUOWWWWWWW foghorning it would have elevated the movie further.
I give it a 8/10 overall
>laser rifles
It makes sense when shields are involved but it's odd that Denis never adapted a scene where some dumb frick Harkonnen turns on a shield to attract a frenzy of sandworms. Or a scene where Atreides holdouts hit a shield with a laser gun and cause a nuclear explosion.
The jihadist assault with Chani at the spearhead makes sense if your suspension of disbelief remembers the fact that shields in Dune requires melee combat. Unfortunately they never address having a spring gun on hand past Part 1. Seriously, it can't be that much of a visual challenge to portray blowdart projectiles = Fremen, lasers = Harkonnens. I will say, the fact that it's an open battlefield mainly makes sense considering that the Fremen are portrayed as sand ninjas that attacked as soon as the Emperor acknowledged Paul's message and showed up. Meaning they had no real time entrenching themselves. The establishing shots of the Sardaukar convey that they've just dismounted from the space ship and are reorganizing.
The artillery line was a nice nod to the books, but it only made sense if DV wanted to convey the financial drain the war against the Fremen and Atreides had on the Harkonnens.
>The jihadist assault with Chani at the spearhead makes sense if your suspension of disbelief remembers
my suspension of disbelief cant get past elite fighters mindlessly rushing at each other instead of engaging in formation fighting
again villeneuve only cares about the visuals
Masses of CGI people running on each other is in not really good visuals.
Denis can point camera at empty space that then will become a spice harvesters or a spaceship but he has no idea how to shot people in movement.
Or he forgets how to do it for most of the time because I liked the opening scenes with Harkonnen ambush and floating boys.
well if you dont know how to shoot a scene because you have no idea how medieval warfare works you turn to other hollywood productions and copy them right.
this scene was just standard hollywood fare. boring and uninspired.
He should avoid big battle fights and focus on smaller "muh operator ninja" stuff that works better in his visual style.
The harvester fight was not bad.
It's good, at least Timothy Chalamet got the opportunity to be a bit of a white boy dork and play off of that before being angsty for the last stretch of the film. Infinitely better and livelier than the first part. I think the Giedi Prime part was staying past its welcome and a waste of the Fenrir royal house. I like that the book provided Count Fenrir as a representation of the Great Houses under the Emperor and as a foil to Paul as a fighter, so when it's only Mrs. Fenrir in Part 2 it was a disappointment. Doubly so when she's only used as a Bene Gesserit cum dump and exposition device for Feyd-Rautha's character.
As someone who hasn't read Dune shite and went into both films completely blind I will say it's really really good.
Definitely not some GOAT film but it's really fun to watch.
I think what holds it back from being a Modern Epic is that it feels very small scale. Even when it's large it feels small.
No, it's a israeli psyop
Its literally pro islamic jihad
>1984 movie
>show
>new movies
which did it better?
Hello there fellow tv Cinemaphilelers,
I just went to see this movie for the 2nd time, it is just that great! Next I will bring all my friends and family.
Ya'll should do the same, such a heckin' great movie!
See you around, folks.
BTW Zendaya is the best!
The J stands for israelite, that says all you need to know
this isnt getting any funnier by repeating it ad nauseam /misc/
Cool it with the antisemitism
>itsallsotiresome.tga
What was with Anya Taylor Joy showing up for all of five seconds and then never being seen again? It was utterly bizarre. She's a major A-list actress and she didn't even speak a single line.
why are the armies not staying in formation after having an atomic bomb rain down debris on them and causing a sand storm where they can barely see six feet infront of them reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
setting her up for the next film
That wasn't "setting up". It was a marvel-tier teaser-cameo for the next movie. Completely unnecessary, only existing to show off a big name actress.
It's all carried by incredible acting range of Zendaya
I would say no but everyone's still taking about Fury Road so maybe
big j said that? "the" big j? aw, man, he's one of the greats
Yes I saw it yesterday
It’s quite good even with the dei casting
It’s pretty epic actually
A lot of people are comparing it to Jackson's LOTR trilogy but I think Howard Shore's score on that is one of the GOAT scores but Zimmer's work on the first film was dogshite.
Why did they abandon attempts at worldbuilding?
In this entire movie I noticed few new concepts they introduce:
-worm riding
-water extraction from dead bodies
-water of life from sandtrouts
-some wind catching device Chani briefly describes
That's not a lot for such a long movie.
It's fun and has made a better attempt than any previous one to be true to the books, but also overpraised and makes some significant deviations it didn't have to. First half is too slow, second half is too fast. All the actors do a good job except Emperor Walken and Zendaya, even if I question the direction taken for some of the characters. Paul for example comes off as a burgeoning school shooter even before arriving on Arrakis.
It was very good, as was the first, and I have enjoyed each watch and rewatch of that movie, but for some reason I don't love these movies. In fact I liked Poor Things more, and I certainly don't consider that a perfect movie. Reminds me of The Northman in that I really like it but it's not something that sticks with me
Those both movies feel a bit too calculated. They want appear genuine as products of an artist but you can't help seeing how big impact studio decisions had on them.
Both are well made but they lack some molecule of personal
DUNC movies are exactly that. Calculated safe products that end being very ok.
I mean there are things going on for 3 hours yet nothing stands out. The characters have low motivations imprinted on them
It just checks boxes
>Visuals? Check
>Story? Its told
>CGI? Yes
>Actors? Theyre there
> A plot? Things happen and end
It should've been a 3 part series, part 2 should have focused on Paul's time amongst the Fremen and the build up to his eventual taking of Arrakis. Easily could've had Part 2 focus on Rabban's failures during the war and setting up Feyd as the big bad that could challenge Paul in the final movie.
Overall enjoyable but while visually a fantastic movie it overall suffers from the fact it condensed way too much of part 2 and 3 into a singular plot, as well as shorten the time frame of Paul's ascension; it also suffers greatly from not wanting to upset "modern" audiences with its portrayal of a patriarchal fanatic religious culture that is the Fremen and Zen-Sunni Islam. It also destroys much of Chani's character from the books and even removes their first kid together.
Its a really dull movie just like the first
Its visuals are generic and boring
The story is told in monotone with no character emotions
Almost no dialogue, so almost no plot points
No worldbuilding either outside of "Arrakis is a earthlike desert and sucks"
It was basically just Pitch Black. I'll watch that again thanks
Look bro, story wise this isn't really like the books. He does the highlights but most of these highlights lack the proper weight to them. There are some changes/omissions to the story. If you're a bookgay like i am the story doesn't feel entirely right. I dunno how non book bros feel about the story. Storytelling is a 6 or 7 out of 10 for me. The audio and the visuals are probably the best since Mad Max. Which is what truly elevates it above your average slop. (The first dune for me is the better out of the two, better story and better pacing)
>I dunno how non book bros feel about the story.
I bet it's confusing as frick.
It's never really fully explained or elaborated on what the BG are doing, what the KH is, why exactly it's important. What the overall political balance in the Empire is, etc...
Then also a lot of the stuff like Alia is explained in the books, but in the movie it feels like a bizarre trippy aside.
Worst part is Paul. Timmy just can't sell it. He always looks half asleep, has some weird dopey stare like his brain is barely functional and simply lacks intensity. He yells a bit but still comes off twerpy.
Paul, in the story, grows from a boy to a man. Timmy just looks like a 70lbs half-asleep twerp throughout.
Also Zendaya is not easy on the eyes, but by the end of the movie she's just straight up unpleasant. The movie never sells her as Paul's true love and she seems always just b***hy, whiny and distrustful. There's no chemistry there.
Paul should have been recast between part 1 and 2.
Chani was *severely* miscast from the beginning, then misused throughout. Dennis neglected so much book material in order to focus on that unpleasant, scowling DOG of a woman.
Does Dunc 2: The Duncening show what Guild Navigators look like?
nope, is you average action dialogue action movie without good action and talking and ost is a bit inferior to the previous one. the film is rushed, it is good but is not original is at the same level of the first but not in no boring way, in a rush way.
Is better thanlas 3 years movies, but not a future classic. but it is a good film.
As Pt1 and Pt2 they feel flimsy, but if you look at both of them as one big movie it's suddenly much better.
Overall it's a decent effort and Pt2 in particular seems better designed, better plotted, better acted and so on...
Also it seems to have cut a lot from production. I believe Thufir was supposed to show up as being tricked into working for the baron? And wasn't Hasimir cast? Haven't seen him in the movie.
Worst thing about it is that most of the finale's drama is spun around Chani. She's given too much room and her pouting and being suspicious basically is the only "obstacle" Paul is experiencing, everything else happens effortlessly.
>Worst thing about it is that most of the finale's drama is spun around Chani
there was audible chuckling / laughter throughout the theatre during the closeup of her face in that scene
>harkonnens are losing
>harkonnens are losing
>harkonnens are losing some more
>"we have to do something about this!!"
>they go ALL out and lose some more
>"let's send Feyd there"
>suddenly they have these ships that can frick up a mountain in one go
Why even frick around with small troop movements etc if they can simply field a giant "frick you" platform that can mincemeat a mountain in one go.
Also a point is made in the books that the Fermen pay off the Navigator Guild so they can keep their movements and locations hidden. They essentially buy their secrecy.
In the movie Harkonnens are just too stupid to literally bombard any rock formation that looks like it can house a sietch. Doesn't look like there's a lot of them either.
The Baron said that using artillery on the rock formation was "genius", so it's canon that the average Harkonnen is too dumb to use artillery for its intended purpose
In the book, it was the Baron's idea.
It's lovely, the changes from the book (mostly) don't interfere with the viewing experience
I did find myself wishing that they had some scenes breathe a bit more, the most visually interesting sections of the movie (aside from Geidi Prime) never lasted long enough for me to really drink them in
solid 7/10, worth watching in theatres and re-watching later
Well I mean if Big J says so then it must be true
I liked it. Not the most amazing thing ever but like the first it's nice to see a major Hollywood movie that not only looks like it cost 100s of millions to make but also takes itself seriously. It's refreshing after a decade of quippy MCU movies that look like 2000s TV shows.
I hope that it's better than the first one because I can remember only one scene from it that stuck with me and it was the one with the throat-singing guy. The biggest flaw of DUNC 1 is being so forgettable
It was probably the best cinema experience I had in years. To say that this is a 10/10 masterpiece is too much though. Consider the times we live in, something like this would have been 8/10 decades ago but these days, after so much slop and drivel, this is a breath of fresh air.
I think it's really really good, the third act was amazing but it is not a cinematic masterpiece, as some laud it.
I’m pretty sure critics (paid marketers) have named like 6 different movies as “unforgettable” in the past 2 years but idk what they are now lmfao
>critics
paid shills?
It's a masterpiece if you like tinnitus
I watched it yesterday and if I didn't know the plot of the book by heart I would already forgot anything that happens in the movie
>great love between Chani and Paul
>they kiss and have sex once, Chani is nagging like old wife
Is this movie made for heavily medicated zoomer prudes?
It's not that we needed more sex scenes, but the movie relation between Chani and Paul are completely flat and loveless.
Is Denis autistic like Nolan?
Anyone who says its bad or prefers 1984 i'm convinced did not watch it. How can you see paul shouting to a sea of millions with them chanting him while atomics fly over them with an actual good zimmer score and say "yep, thats shit."
At least this place liked br2049 when it came out when those seats were empty, if normies did not catch wind of this series I believe Cinemaphile would be singing a different tune.
>How can you see paul shouting to a sea of millions with them chanting him while atomics fly over them with an actual good zimmer score and say "yep, thats shit."
Wow, boring shot of billions of CGI people and bland Zimmer score + explosion.
Now this is cinema.
again, you did not see it, it's very telling
You are in denial over how shit your taste is.
It's not bad movie, Villeneuve managed to create story that goes from A to B which apparently is a big achievement those days - but its fricking sterile, emotionally void and bland as frick. There is maybe one or two memorable scenes in the entire movie. Part One was much better despite having to introduce more characters, foreign concepts and events.
Soundtrack is fricking bad and the "subtle" way of underscoring the emotional moments with loud rumble is fricking moronic, it's treating audience as idiots.
A cloth of idiocy has covered your eyes as you do not see what my opened do.
>Sterile, emotionally void, only one or two memorable scenes
You did not watch this movie, you may have downloaded some camrip or shockingly took your obese behind to sit in one of those theatres but you did not actually see what everyone around you saw. That cloth is permanently wrapped around your eyes and no amount of tugging would remove it. The day you realize that you are not actually smarter than everyone around but in fact, a lot slower mentally, than that is the day the cloth will slowly begin to slip.
Timmy has very little gravitas.
>it's bland it's slop it's boring it's bland it's slop it's boring
i really wish inarticulate homosexuals would stop posturing like they have taste
Are you aware that words have meaning?
You can Google why bland means
it's just monkeys pressing buttons on a screen to ask for a banana. you don't know what the frick you want or what good taste would look like, but you're posturing like you do and hoping the rest of us won't notice.
it's basic Cinemaphile contrarianism. The movie seems like it will be popular so they have to be against it.
The only reason tv contractions hate this movie is because of Zendaya.
But due to the movie being actually good, all the chudcel movie reviewers like Shapiro and drinker love it, so the tvtards are alone by themselves and it's even more pathetic this time kek.
Last 15 min are good, rest is meh. The movie gets saved by Hans Zimmers soundtrack.
>Ctrl + f "bland"

Is counter shilling a thing now?
it's well-acted, the cinamtography is on-par with the previous movie. but the story crams so much it's hard to follow. many scenes felt like they were cut short, or just disjointed.
Remember when some sóyBlack person from twitter said Endgame would be remembered for thousands of years to come? It's like that. I'll never watch the Dunc flicks. lol
It’s bad. It’s miscast. It’s one note. Hans Zimmerman is lazy. It’s annoying. Pugh can’t act or even pronounce basic words. Tim and Zen are not attractive people and have no chemistry. The end is anticlimactic. It’s cynically modern. The fremen look like Iraq war mercenaries. The effects are average. I am immune to hype and group opinion. The movie sucks and you’ll all agree with me in a few years.
agree with you now
might change after I watch it
are there any more sardukar chanting scenes¿
NTA, no, no chanting or their motif in the soundtrack, and the sardaukar appear in the background a few times and get quickly obliterated in the two times they get shown for more then a few seconds. The rest get killed off screen. They dont do anything cool like they did in the first one, its the biggest issue i have with the movie, absolutely wasted them.
i will agree with you right now
youre also a fat moronic so we should throw that into the mix before we take any of your opinions seriously
I agree with you now. The amount of "10/10, absolute masterpiece, film of the decade" shilling this movie is getting is insane. How can anyone call this movie substantial when the acting is muted, the story is gutted and characters one-note, and the aesthetics are bland and boring?
Denis seems to care more about looks than storytelling, and it shows in everything from the oppressive sci-fi window-dressing (where everywhere looks like a slate mine, and there's no apparent difference between a throne room and a tomb), the casting of model-tier actors and capeshit stars, and the repeated panning shots of deserts. It's fine if you enjoy watching what is essentially a glorified, 3 hour long Loreal advertisement, but at least be honest about it.
It's funny how every single interior set is some kind of a cave.
fr It makes the movie look more like a minimalist theatrical play than a big budget sci-fi epic. And maybe that's Denis' intention, that if he strips things down and makes everything as bare bones as possible people will think the movie is le smart (seems to have worked with plebs calling this shit 'art-house').
arrakis' desert brutalism is beautiful. it's not like the throne room at the end of the film is the emperor's real throne room. I just love how sunny the film is, always had a soft spot for this arabic/egyptian sci-fi aesthetic.
I like brutalism but you can do much better than Dunc's art direction.
Brutalism doesnt mean just straight angles, it can go much more ornamental and round.
Maybe, but Deni's Arrakeen is what I would imagine a city on a desert planet to look like.
We barely get any closer look at Arrakeen in either of movies.
The only street level scenes are during the sieges.
The book didnt wow and i don’t remember any huge change in quality between what ended up being part 1 and part 2
What does this movie do differently than the first ? Why is this one getting best movie ever and not 1
Because as always in corporate circles
Once you do good, and budget, you get a blank check and get told to make more.
So
Less meddling means more autistic visuals and music and emotions.
Who the frick is Big J?
I think they control hollywood
It more than lives up to the hype. It passes all expectations for what a great Dune adaption should be.
Also it's how the prequel trilogy should have handled Anakin's turn to the dark side but that hack Lucas was too washed up to realize it.
Amazing. Worth the hype and more. I saw it in IMAX once, will probably go again during the week so I can get better seats 10/10. Literally me,
It's hot garbage, and the shill factories are in overdrive. They subverted the core themes of the book.
With Jessica, they destroyed a rich character with admirable feminine qualities. They could have portrayed a positive ideal, but instead chose to wreck her and go with the non-canonical theme of "the Bene Gesserit did all of this." What was supposed to be an act of rebellion that upset the multi-generational plans of suppressive tyrants was portrayed as "just another cog in the stronk wammins plans."
The film portrayed Paul as a fulfillment of the Bene Gesserit's plans rather than a devastating upset to them, and Jessica as a tool in accomplishing this. This was the whole, everfricking point of Mohiam calling her "Reverend Mother" as the end.
They turned Chani into the lover spurned by the White Messiah once he was done with her, and the Fremen by extension. It was an overt statement regarding colonialism.
Frick this movie and everyone that made it.
muh culture war. don't you ever get tired of yourselves?
It is a culture war. Every single movie and TV show that gets made is purposefully injected with a progressive narrative. It's all by design to brainwash the masses. Frank Herbert was a liberal progressive himself. His novels are the perfect medium for midwit liberal morons to express their beliefs. All art is leftwing in the current age. All new things are meant to undermine and destroy the west.
nobody cares homosexual, you subverted yourselves. herbert was an ecologist first and foremost.
Im not subverted. Herbert was a piece of shit liberal, I've read his books. His movies are made by piece of shit liberals.
i don't care about america's gay baby problems anymore. liberals are actually producing art and imposing their will on matter, maybe because they're minimally sexuated/accept themselves at their core. I'm no Dune fanatic but I respect anyone who is writing an unabashedly modern myth about eco-messiahs
>liberals are actually producing art and imposing their will
that's because the capital to do so is afforded to them exclusively
Like I said, I don't care about america's gay baby problems anymore.
But you spout nonsequiturs about why liberals produce art?
Cry about it you little baby
>still replying after it's cowardly narrative retreat
why bother? that parasite joined this board after covid19 lockdowns
oh please you tourist moron
passing your eyes over words doesn't count as 'reading'
this is straight from God Emperor of Dune
>Safaris through ancestral memories teach me many things. The patterns, ahhh, the patterns. Liberal bigots are the ones who trouble me most. I distrust the extremes. Scratch a conservative and you find someone who prefers the past over any future. Scratch a liberal and find a closet aristocrat. It’s true! Liberal governments always develop into aristocracies. The bureaucracies betray the true intent of people who form such governments. Right from the first, the little people who formed the governments which promised to equalize the social burdens found themselves suddenly in the hands of bureaucratic aristocracies. Of course, all bureaucracies follow this pattern, but what a hypocrisy to find this even under a communized banner.
Herbert was much smarter than you and certainly more nuanced
One can easily tease out that he leaned conservative (and would be considered far right today), but also understood that change is a constant and that not all changes are for the worse
You are the midwit though because Leto was a necessary tyrant to Herbert. It was still a complete rejection of traditional western civilization. You don't have any freedom, you don't have any rights, any ownership. You don't have any freedom of religion. All liberalism is the rejection of the past in the name of progress. The golden path was Herbert's metaphor for progressivism. You think Leto was redpilled? A society ruled by a lesbian military in which men were slaves and everyone was required to worship the emperor. Herbert was basically a israelite that screeched at anything traditional, especially Christianity. He completely rejected the American Anglo Saxon protestant identity. There is a reason why Tolkien, a traditional conservative, had a deep dislike for Dune.
NTA, but this is the most moronic, terminally online word salad I’ve ever read. Literal NPC speech.
This
Why didn't you spout "kino" or "masterpiece" or "just like me". Be the kind of NPC I am dude or don't bother!!!
>force a utopian society with the sole idea of making people realize that happiness in slavery is bad so they finally flee as far as they can when the shackles come off
Yeah I don’t think this is what commies have in mind.
At least he wasn't a secular moron like the guy adapting his work.
Don’t you ever get tired of thinking everything in life is easy and that you never have to think for yourself?
But that's exactly how they departed from the book.
>What was supposed to be an act of rebellion that upset the multi-generational plans of suppressive tyrants
That's what happens
>a devastating upset to them [Bene Gesserit's plans]
That's what happens
>an overt statement regarding colonialism
That's what one of the original themes of the book is about.
Reddit spacing as well, you are probably one of the most moronic posters on Cinemaphile. How many times are you gonna post in this thread with your dogshit opinions before you actually go see this movie.
Nope. Mohiam outright says "there are no sides," and in her earlier conversation with Irulan, that there are many ways to fulfill the same plan. They lost in the book because of an act of rebellion, but won in the movie.
Mohiam calls Paul abomination when hé uses the voice on her
Which makes no sense in the context of what she said to Jessica afterwards. Also, "Abomination," in the book, refers to the pre-born. Given how badly the rest of the dialog was written, I'm inclined to think they were just dropping in nuggets for the fandom without any idea of what they were writing.
Dunc dies in the end.
Why the Hell is Chani on the poster???
If you liked the book you’ll love it. If you didn’t, you’ll probably enjoy it still given that you watched part one first. Sat next to a boomer couple at the screening and the wife said “what a boring movie, idk what’s happening and nothing has happened so far” at the break, which will probably be your experience if you haven’t read the books or watched chapter one and are a little moronic.
That said I wish they didn’t convert from the book in some extends, the whole north/south thing added nothing and baby Alia was severely missed by me
The sole point of the whole north/south split was to deal with one of the themes of the book via dialogue.
Instead of showing the fanaticism (you can only see it in 1 scene when some fremen woman jumps on escaping Rabban) its better to say "hey those guys are fanatics".
Love the book and didn't liked the movie. Just a decent 6/10 flick taken as it's own thing. But the first part I outright hated. It failed to do the bare minimum of introducing the characters and the world, the forces behind it with their purposes. And it was it's only job
Fair. I guess I didn’t pay attention to that too much as I had read the books already.
I guess that makes sense. But at the same time if everyone acted like stilgar that point would’ve also been made
The Geidi Prime black sun was sick. 20 years of cutting-edge special effects and it took that long to give us something as cool as a black sun. God, Marvel has been a disaster for the industry. Californians are so indelibly rooted to one time and space, it's pathetic.
it was movie as frick
Probably the best epic blockbuster since Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia. Better adaptation than Peter Jackson's LOTR.
You know the movie is good when Cinemaphile starts praising Lynch's and israelitedorowsky's Dune
You know the movies dogshit when the people praising it talk about this board like they're not locals and make a safespace general
can't wait til this breed of aggressive perennially unimpressed homosexual nerd schtick finally fricking dies out. mst3k and something awful have been a disaster for the human race
If you corporate dickriders could have a wish from the genie the entire human race would consist of nothing but Eric Butts types
>you should have terminal irony poisoning like me
it's just the same type of low IQ plebs that flooded in when SW7 came out and got upset that this board wouldn't completely bend over for it like everywhere else. You can see in the archive that the arguments are almost the same
>You know the movies dogshit when the people praising it talk about this board like they're not locals and make a safespace general
Dit it flop or not?
>Dit it flop or not?
Looks pretty good so far. 75 million opening
is it gonna be billion dollar movie?
It's pretty good but it's not better than part 1, my biggest issues with it is that the first half drags for like 2 hours of the 2 hours 45 that the movie lasts, not only that but the Romance is between chani and paul is some of the most forced and dry romances I've seen on a movie, they look at each other, kiss, bang and then Chani looks at Paul with disgust and disapproval in between those moments and for the rest of the movie, the personal fights don't last nearly as long as they should despite all the build-up and then the movie ends.
> opening weekend Sunday
> Dune 2 general dies
> Dune 2 posting slows to a crawl
> No reply Dune threads falling into the archive like ironic raindrops.
Looks like this movie just doesn't have the legs, even in the online incel fan base.
>Dune 2 posting slows to a crawl
it's because this is when the paid shilling campaign stops
>even in the online incel fan base
lol wut? given that the movies have woke leftist changes that we universally condemn, this is a very odd statement indeed
>the movies have woke leftist changes that we universally condemn!!!
Unless you've got a mouse in your pocket /tvpol/, you're not a "we".
I speak for myself and other thinking human beings
you do not qualify
How does the feyd battle work in the books?
the same as everything else in the books: it's mostly conveyed via Paul's internal monologue.
I'm going to see it in about an hour
I saw the first, it was meh.
For me it was the best movie i have seen in recent years but not a masterpiece
>no navigator
>no baby Alia killing the Baron with the gom jabbar
8/10 solely due to the Giedi Prime sequence
