The Code Lyoko fandom is an interesting case. They're small but dedicated, but absolutely insufferable on Reddit. I would say it's liking a fandom or coming into it later when it's withered but refused to die and almost any new content in it is basically the rot inside the tree.
Especially prevalent in fanfiction but seeps into the art after a while. Anything new is so twisted and niche it usually has more to do with the person's personal fetishes and is tangentially related to the original product by name only.
I've had it several times where I remember something fondly and go see if there's anything new and the fiction is all suicide, angst, and abuse with the characters basically hollow husk of what they were and the art is some of the weirdest fetish shit I've ever seen
