People frickin HATED this movie because it was made with prehistoric motion capture. Is it better viewed today, with our disgusting fetish for CGI marvel movies?
All those religious chuds in the last years have made me understand why Romans were feeding them to wild animals and crucifying them en masse. Annoying fricks.
Pagans, particularly Germanic pagans ran on a warrior/honor system. If you wanted someone's wife, money or land, you challenged him and beat him. That's the barbarian will.
>paganism is all about covetousness
meanwhile actual paganism: >It's better to have a home, >even if it's little- >everyone should call somewhere "home." >Even if you own just two goats >beneath a faulty roof, >that's still better than begging.
It's impressive how what paganism is can flip flop on a dime based on what someone says about it. One day, it's about killing semites and plundering. The next day, it's about homes. I expect what paganism is to be completely different tomorrow.
You're right, genius-kun, I'm actually the idiot for citing one of the only known, authentic pieces of norse mythological poetry. We should just discount that in favor of /misc/ memes made by hostile christians.
Here's another totally ridiculous quote from the king of the gods in norse heathenism (which, as we have established, means nothing, of course) >I counsel you, Loddfafnir, >if you'll take my advice, >you'll profit if you learn it, >it'll do you good if you remember it: >Never seduce >another man's woman >with whispers in her ear.

I don't think you quite appreciate the irony of using Poetic and Prose Edda; fragments of paganism hijacked by Christian monks when complaining about "hostile Christians" misrepresenting the religion.

holy shit you have actually, unironically outsourced your critical thinking faculties to /misc/ memes.
The codex regius was not "hijacked" in any sense. The fact that indepdent versions of the poems in it appear in other, unrelated sources speaks to their authenticity. And on top of that, the compiler of the codex regius was fricking anonymous. We literally have no idea who it was.
We do know the author of the prose edda, Snorri Sturluson, but he was an Icelandic politican, and one with a reputation for loving the norse gods, such that, on one occassion, a disgruntled woman threatened to take his eye out to make him "more like his hero, Odin". The eddas can hardly be considered the products of christianity, let alone manuscripts produced by the church itself.
It would be 10 out of fricking 10 if they would did it live action instead of that shitty gimmick.
Excellent cast, incredible music, prime Jolie, everyone giving it their all, Hero's journey and man facing his past weakness at the dawn of his life.
I'd kill to have more movies like this, the myths are kickass material.
Wrong it’s shit, and I’m a massive Beowulf enjoyer who’s learned some Old English to learn it in its original tongue >le sexy dragon lady >le corrupt king >le beowulf is tired of war >le shapeshifting bald dragon guy >ugly motion capture animation >fedora tier comments about religion
It rejects the values of Iron Age germanic society in favor of Hollywood platitudes about war, women, and weakness
>Iron Age Germanic society
Beowulf takes place in Anglo-Saxon Britain after Anglos already converted to Christianity. It's not even ancient, it's medieval.
The CELTIC iron age ends in 43 ad, followed by the roman iron age, then the saxon iron age, then the norman medieval period
And yes no shit beowulf was written then, but your autistic nitpicking of time periods aside, the values were rooted in earlier times, the text itself could well be described as a germanic legend in the ancient style updated for modern christian audiences
Came back to this thread to reassert that Grendel Grendel Grendel (1981), another adult-targeted cartoon, is the better film if only because of its source material.
yeah it's good. worth a watch.
better than it had any right to be
is it any good? its KINO
People frickin HATED this movie because it was made with prehistoric motion capture. Is it better viewed today, with our disgusting fetish for CGI marvel movies?
Its good but it couldn't help but to be made by a gay atheist that hates christianity and has to shove that bullshit into it somehow.
How?
it's great
It erases Beowulf's Christian roots and makes him a pagan who despises Christianity. For shame.
Is there anything that doesn't make you people piss and whine? It's so tiresome.
All those religious chuds in the last years have made me understand why Romans were feeding them to wild animals and crucifying them en masse. Annoying fricks.
you baiting?
If you're white it's required watching.
I know it's bait but goddamn I hate christcucks so much.
The scene where he's fighting naked and objects continently hide his dick is dumb. It's Austin Power-tier shit. I fricking hate Americans.
Absolutely.
Bobby Zemeckis last good flick
Good if you love video game cutscenes
Ray carries it hard on his back, I really liked it.
The other Beowulf cartoon is better
>fratricide and greedily wanting other people’s things weren’t seen as bad until Christianity said so

>Europeans would still be living in huts if not for the desert vengeance god imposed on them
E. Michael Jones, you’re old, go to bed
Who are you quoting?

Much better than the god who sneaks around during night killing children in their beds.
me me me me me me it's all about me

Prussian Socialism has a great episode about Beowulf

Poorly executed but worth a watch

>Anglo Saxon england isn’t iron age
It's not. The Iron Age in Britain is marked as lasting until 43 AD. Beowulf likely takes place much closer to the 10th century.
The CELTIC iron age ends in 43 ad, followed by the roman iron age, then the saxon iron age, then the norman medieval period

I feel asleep when i was younger so no
Yes it’s fun and epic
It was absolute cringe when it came out and it has only gotten worse with time.
The animation hasn’t held up very well but it’s actually pretty good, an interesting take on the original story.
It could have been 10 times better if it wasn't for that shitty motion capture gimmick.

I wrote the script
