The best in the Monsterverse.
And still 7/10
Is that supposed to be the US Capitol building?
yes, the movie is about Jan 6
Yeah it's good, better than 2014.
First one is quite realistic and grounded
In the third one they drive a space ship into a hidden jungle in the core of earth
Based, a lot of the appeal of Godzilla is the crazy sci-fi. Took a while for America to understand that.
good campiness is inversely proportional to technology and budget. the japs did it right when it was just guys in rubber suits and aliens in planet of the apes costumes. but as the technology got better they got more and more grounded. when you try to make a 200 million dollar movie as schlocky as that, its just fricking stupid. youll never make giant monsters fighting each other gritty and realistic, it should be fun, but theres a right way and a wrong way to do it, the right timing and amount of campiness and the wrong, they just jump the shark so bad after 2014
2014 is shit
Skull Island already makes a big deal about "hollow earth", is this some kind of OG Jap Gojira canon?
It's fun. They really leaned into the Showa tropes a lot more and Showa is the Godzilla that most Americans know and love.
Every Godzilla movie is better than 14
no. i saw that with a chick when we were high and i laughed my ass off the whole time. millie bobbie brown could have been cut out as usual and the fight scenes were hilarious. they tried to obscure them with smoke/darkness which people didnt like, but as far as im concerned, these movies have a lot less room for campiness now that its not just guys in rubber suits. youre allowed an amount of camp since theyre 300 foot tall monsters fighting it out wwe style but you at least have to try to sell it a bit. overall its the weakest of all of them, 2014 was good, kong was interesting, and g vs kong at least didnt take itself seriously and just delivered monster rumbles. millie bobbie brown and all the human stuff suck. as far as american godzilla goes:
>zilla 1998: not considered to be a godzilla movie, but good monster movie and impressive cgi for the time, well blended with practical effects
>godzilla 2014: strongest of the three, actually good, not too much human bs but what there was was decent and relevant to story, good buildup to monster reveals, lots of from the ground shots, most believable, most grounded, fight scenes are short and brutal
>kotm 2019: shit
>g vs kong 2021: absolutely silly but good fight scenes
go see the new toho one its actually good
>not too much human bs
Brother, it was mostly human bs
Literally nobody cares about Cranston's son, and yet half the movie is him.
i should have said the human bs wasnt as bad. aaron johnson is boring but at least it wasnt as stupid and annoying as millie bobbie brown and the others in kotm and g vs kong. its all to build tension for godzilla, and with the camera on him while hes forced to do his job in close proximity to the monsters, your perspective of them is almost always from ground level, which is really important. the human story is trash in 2014 compared to minus one, but a standalone godzilla movie is nothing without showing the effect he has on people, he represents natural disasters, nukes, all kinds of shit. and the payoff for g vs mutos was made worth it by sitting through all that human bs
Dieses.
People praising 2019 and 2021 over 2014 are moronic.
That's a whole lot of mental gymnastics to defend the shitpile 2014 is.
Pretty good, worth a watch.
fricking garbage. Emo mom decides that she's going to invoke Poison Ivy and HG Wells (Warehouse 51) and hate frick the planet into a new utopia. Upon running across the main character in the third act, their initial response isnt to immediately shoot the c**t dead between the eyes
it's dogshit but you should watch it. GvK is WAY better
Best western Godzilla movie ever produced, but that's not saying much. Still, it's a decent monster flick.
>Best western Godzilla movie ever produced
wrong
Wrong.
Kino. GvK was meh though.
Literally a family divorce drama subplot with monsters fighting occasionally. He divorced mother joins an eco terrorism military cult. That's not interesting nor does it appropriately fit with the idea of campy Godzilla fun.
The monster fights are fine, but the other stuff is such abysmal vapid garbage that it made me long for Pacific Rim. That movie understood the balance. You can be campy, wacky, and goofy but there has to be a logical grounding for it. They evidently didn't give a frick about the plot and just shoved filler into it to get you to the monster fights. In Godzilla vs Gigan there was a theme park made by alien wienerroaches foiled by a manga artist his blackbelt sister, and a socialist group and that was still much more grounded than thus. Again, though, the fights are pretty cool so whatever. I just feel people who say they like "camp" and schlock when it comes to the Legendary series are people who haven't actually seen Godzilla movies.
It's one insanely frustrating experience when every time you start to enjoy yourself, they have to kick you in the balls the next second, rinse and repeat for two hours. Also incompetent director.
How did they frick it up
holy shit is that gigan? and ebirah? and kumonga? and KONG? Frick man we were robbed of glory, it couldve been so kino
Just reference for the scene. There's even a random Gamera.
It's awful. Had to kill time and went to the cinema, worst I've ever seen in there.
These movies are so gay
It's pretty alright, but if you wanna see a Godzilla and only have time for one go watch the new jap one before it leaves cinemas
It's a lot better than 2014, but Godzilla vs Kong is the best Legendary movie.
Depends on what you mean by good. I would have shit my pants in autistic obsessive love for this movie if I was twelve years old. But as an adult... Ugh.
I know I risk sounding elitist, and this is hardly a new take, but if it isn't from Japan, it's not really Godzilla. There's a reason why "the fandom" has used the term GINO for decades (" Godzilla In Name Only"). American Godzilla is overproduced and has no soul.
You have legit brain damage. I suggest a shotgun shell to the skull
I don't think you understand the irony of this post
better than 2014, not by much. these movies frankly get progressively better because they learn to show more and more of the monsters. 2014 was offensively bad in that sense, KotM delivers except for when godzilla shows up, paradoxically. GvK finally understood that if you see the monsters fighting you shouldn't get cucked as soon as shit gets real.
the human drama is ass throughout the series, so who cares
How did they fumble this series so badly right out of the gate with 2014. All they had to do was keep Cranston alive and make it a father/son story throughout the movies. Cranston was the only good thing about any of these movies. Everything instantly goes to shit, except a few cool visuals, after his character dies like 30 mins into the movie. All other human characters in every single movie after suck
Yeah, and there wasn't even anything outstanding about his character either. He's just the only actual actor they've cast in the entire fricking series, with the notable exception of Skull Island, which was a one-off period piece so we'll never see any of those guys again.
It's a movie obviously made by a fanboy that desperately needed a script doctor or some sort of constructive criticism before it went into production. That being said, it's lightyears better than 2014, which is unwatchable garbage.
It's good but still has flaws. The monster parts are good, but the villain of the movie is a white liberal woman who kick started the apocalypse because she failed as a mother & blames everyone but herself. The guy from West Wing is the best human character, but he doesn't get a ton of screen time.
It's worse than 2014 but it's still pretty good.
