    nothing to do with Hypatia.

IRL Hypatia was a mathematician, and therefore stoned to death by early Christians because rational thought = witchcraft. I haven't seen this film about her, so can't tell you if it's any good.

Please explain the incredibly sophisticated college educated reason they killed her. I'm listening.

            Anonymous

her theories were in contradiction to christian cosmology
the fault of your approach is you are imagining there are good/rational vs. bad/irrational in history and this view then gets transfered to modern times and you see people you disagree with as irrational/bad which just prevents any possibility of understanding or compromise for benefit of all and the only solution seems either reeducating them to fit your views or eradicating them.

            Anonymous

IIRC there was a political disagreement between the christian and roman leaders. hypatia was an advisor of the roman leader and got saddled with the blame for causing the rift, so she was killed by a mob. it didn't have anything to do with her philosophy.

in any case, she was a pagan and not an atheist like these television shows tend to portray her, so none of her beliefs would have been unusually objectionable by the standards of the time.

              Anonymous

Interesting. Do you remember the name of the Roman governor?

              Zip it, midwit.

No. Come up with an actual argument/evidence.

              >By your standard a man in a dress can call himself a woman.
prime example of what i mean, no point arguing with you until you realize its possible to understand somebody's point of view and disagree with them at the same time

              >no point arguing with you
Dismissal is not evidence. "Points of view" are not facts.

It's always funny how defensive religious people get when you use their own religion to point out their hypocrisy. Why is it so hard to live by the principles of your our God, if you are so devoted to him?

Unless your religion is some silly esoteric little cult, yes, most people understand your religion more than you think. Your connection with your God isn't special.

Is that what this film is like? If so that's incredibly ignorant. Smart people back then mostly did believe in God, because Platonic philosophy tends to indicate a prime mover.

it's almost like christians were persecuted or something

      >get persecuted
      >achieve power
      >immediately start persecuting everyone else, including people who never persecuted you
Christians were the first woke people. Now you're going to get persecuted by the new woke people. I will remain neutral and watch with a big bag of popcorn.

HBO's Rome is the obvious answer. Troy (2004) was also quite good.

You don't have an answer, so you threaten me with tortures from your mythology. This is a good example of why no one will care when you are persecuted.

her theories were in contradiction to christian cosmology
the fault of your approach is you are imagining there are good/rational vs. bad/irrational in history and this view then gets transfered to modern times and you see people you disagree with as irrational/bad which just prevents any possibility of understanding or compromise for benefit of all and the only solution seems either reeducating them to fit your views or eradicating them.

Cosmologies are not equal. Some are based on reason and measurement, while others are based on faith and mythology. No amount of "compromise" or "understanding" will change objective reality. By your standard a man in a dress can call himself a woman.

    Pretty kino tbh
If anything its a robust defence of European tradition and an expose of the proto-bolshevik judeo-christian insurgency that still plagues us

    >quick reminder that Christianity was a religion taken up by shitlib urbanite women wailing for egalitarianism, universalism and tearing down the "oppressive" trad order, it was essentially the woke mob of it's day, the architects of both movements being one and the same ~~*psyop merchants*~~
