the basic premise is spot on. altho it misses a caste that steers humanity toward that anti-evolution. but i guess you can't have it all. it also ain't very funny.

My biggest gripe with this movie was that people were clearly too moronic to still have a somewhat functioning society. Just keeping a TV network going is incredibly hard and needs many highly skilled professionals and engineers. Then AI blew up and I made it my headcanon that the machines are automatically keeping things working and somehow somewhat wrangling the morons

      >that the machines are automatically keeping things working and somehow somewhat wrangling the morons
This is canon. If you remember, after they shut off the Brawndo in the irrigation system, the head of Brawndo says something about the company or computer automatically laying off tons of employees.

Miss the part where most things were “automated” and “user-friendly?” Don’t understand the idea that “user-friendliness” creates progressively dumber users that need progressively more “help” to accomplish the most basic tasks? People used to need to know code to use computers, now those same people struggle with iPads and have completely forgotten how to code.

      you have to take this

the basic premise is spot on. altho it misses a caste that steers humanity toward that anti-evolution. but i guess you can't have it all. it also ain't very funny.

      >altho it misses a caste that steers humanity toward that anti-evolution.

into consideration. The only way the world uniformly grows this dumb is if it was engineered into being. Without a ruling caste dumbing down humanity across the globe at a similar rate, the most intelligent/capable society would just conquer everyone else. Without a completely dominant group forcing everyone down, they'd notice a massive IQ drop over a couple generations and move to correct it.

Did Judge understand this and leave out these details on purpose or did he just read about IQ shredders and misunderstand the consequences? Based on his other purposely omitted details, I'd guess the former.

It's explained to you at the beginning of the movie. We do nothing to discourage the fertility rates of less intelligent people and everything to incentivize more intelligent people to delay family formation. This has since been compounded by the recent abortion bans across a third of the country, which can only ensure we have more stupid people being born whose parents would have otherwise killed them.

This scenario alone would not led to the (barely) functional dystopia shown in Idiocracy. At the very least, you'd have to totally disregard war between societies where each population's IQ fell at different rates.

    timeless and hilarious kino

I love how certain people who are so insecure about being grouped in with dumb people get all butthurt about this movie. Maybe stop being so dumb instead?

Eh, it’s refreshingly race-neutral. Pretty evenly spread with dumb Hispanic and black people throughout. If they made the movie now the stupid people would be 100% white.

Not really. There are plenty of countries in the world today with extremely low average IQs if you want to get a more realistic idea of what America might be like in a couple of hundred years.

personally, no, i dont think so.
demographic changes are real and will affect the world in the future, but i dont believe that the world would ever be so devoid of smart people to be exclusively mass producing morons. even stupid people can give birth to smarter people within their litters, genetics are not so straight forward.
also a society filled with morons who cant tie their own shoes like in idocracy simply could not function. there would be total collapse until a stable baseline can form.

adding onto this, probably the most important point. the reason 'smart people' don't reproduce in the current day is because of modern comforts of living and associated expenses as well as easily available birth control. in the event this quality of life is taken away there is really no reason why smart people wouldnt be breeding.

smart people are actually self aware and they think about the harm caused by randomly generating new people and enslaving them in this world. The awareness of this only grows

As a son of a father and a child of a mother i can definetly say that dumb people like to feel smart and on top of that old peeps love to complain about the younglings and this movie excels in utilising both of these sentiments.
What is that humanity went through 1 massive change.
Invention of print and writing and that as old greeks said will mean that you will be able to repeat concepts without understanding them first.
Now we are entering a post writing age where you won't even need to remember shit.
Also 2D IQ went down dramatically
However 3D IQ scores are going up
So you win some you loose some.
