I'd say no. I've only experienced One Piece through the "Warriors" games and every time I've tried to read it, watch it, actually sit down with the full story, it's a fricking slog. There are plenty of better anime worth your time.
I've been reading manga for 2 hours a day for nearly 5 years as part of learning Japanese. I can say without a doubt, One Piece is the absolute worst thing i've read so far.
why is it padded so much?
It makes money, and 9 year olds will just keep consuming.
Jesus this is awful. Wasn't it a series about pirates? When did it turn into Dragon Ball/Naruto?
>When did it turn into Dragon Ball/Naruto?
It was always very similar. They're all shounen, they're all basically the same.

Filler is a tiny percentage of One Piece episodes. It's not like Naruto, where over half of its episodes are non-canonical, they just stretch out the canon material to adapt less than one chapter per episode (normal pacing for a manga like One Piece is 2.5 chapters per episode).
>not like half the episodes >literally get 10 minutes tops of canon material from a SINGLE chapter, sometimes even less >episode is eaten by OP, massive 5 minute recap and then 'reactionface.avi' taking up most of the actual time
Naruto's filler would ultimately be preferable since you can just skip entire chunks eg ep 80-140. Where as with one piece you need one pace and that is a butchered mess because the audio (music mostly) doesn't quite sync as they cut out filler.
I've only watched one pace past timeskip and I haven't noticed many issues with audio, I can only recall one time where it was off. Maybe I just didn't notice it or maybe that applies more to pre time skip
It’s a show about adventure and that’s what hooked me like 20 years ago as a kid. It goes downhill after the TS and the episodes become and absolute slog.
>watching
Probably not. Shonen anime production quality was awful in the 00s in general (Exceptions being FMA and Soul Eater). Plus tons of godawful filler. Say what you will about modern shonen but at least they aren't stretched out over >700 episodes.
>This homie lying, ain't seen shit but the live-action and Luffy's fights on YouTube.
Uh, no. I've rewatched it a few times, one with One Pace. Read through it twice. It's my favorite manga because it's great.

Poor taste, OP sucks and JJK lives rent free in your mind because you've finally been faced with a fanbase that's even more populous and rabid than OP.
The additional kick is that JJK is actually fantastic, but OP isn't. Gege doesn't write for children, he writes for adults, and OP fanboys just can't handle being defeated on every front.
>Wasn't it a series about pirates?
Mate...this series is still about pirates. Just not the rigid tropes that western movie studios have forced down your throat. Imagine it took literal decades to get to that point in the anime and imagine the amount of context you missed before you spouted "bb-b-b-but isn't this about pirates? i have never watched the show btw"
Yes, but only up until water seven, then one pace (fan project that cuts a decent amount of padding out) becomes a necessity. By later arcs, it's almost impossible to watch as released. The padding simply becomes too much to bear.
They're releasing new episodes as the new manga chapters drop, so they need to stall for time in the show in order to keep pace with the source material. Happens a lot with anime. One piece is actually kinda different in the sense that instead of the showrunners making up non canon bullshit to fill time, they just make extensive use of flashbacks, close ups of reaction faces, and panning across still shots.
Oda handed them prime "filler" content with his cover stories and apart from 2 they never used them. Toei are morons. Anyone just watching the anime has no idea what crazy shit is happening on the moon
you can watch episodes here and there but mostly you should read the manga, there's just too many episodes to sit through, you can quickly read it though
Read the manga, watch the One Pace fan edit, or wait till the seasonal remake comes out. The regular anime is a horrible choice because it's bloated in the typical Toei fashion.

The manga is great, the anime is mostly great with some pacing issues.
The problem with watching the episodes as it is the ridiculously long opening and closing sequences, One Pace removes them and makes the show far more enjoyable.
Just read it. That's its original format. It hails from a time when an animation studio and the publisher wanted to keep the series on air every fricking week in perpetuity. It used to be well paced, 2.5~ chapters an episode sometimes more if it was just a pure beat down fight. Over time it caught up a couple times and needed filler arcs to allow more content. Eventually someone insane decided that 1 chap:1ep would be a good idea and that they could scrap filler arcs. THIS DID NO GO WELL. The author eventually stopped outputting 1 chapter a week and we're at like 35~40 chapters per year (3 on 1 off + mag weeks off, there's like 6 a year). The anime past a certain point is shit. The manga is great if you're into absurdist action adventure, if you think too logically keep away, combat is not taken to its logical extreme, often.
Im pretty sure they're remaking the anime, I'd wait to see how it turns out. I think the music, animation and voice acting adds too much to it to just read it

Granny luffy is seared into my brain, and so are most of the cast, but they alone can't be the only reason to watch it. And oh god, we've already had a fair few recasts as the OGs have died (or been de-personed), but I do think that if the remake becomes a thing, some of the old guard do need to not reprise their roles, they'll die mid remake and it will be damn jarring.
>actually it's based to have media full of unironic trannies when Japan does it even though they're played completely straight and everyone really pretends they're women!
Tranime apologists are pathetic
It's not much work to point out the one piece has trannies in it, as it's a simple true statement that's easy for any one who doubts to verify themselves
>There's literally, genuinely, unironically trannies in it so no thanks.
Do you think posts like this are upsetting anyone here? You're deep in the shit and think that's hardcore? Christ you kids are uncreative now.
No I don't think pointing out there's trannies in your media upsets troony media enjoyers like yourself, you clearly enjoy it. My posts are for people like OP wondering about this show. The presence of trannies is important information for normal people when deciding if a show is worth it
Yeah, I'm sure the troons were thrilled about this representation.

Trannies are thrilled by their representation in one piece. It's one of the more inclusive animes with numerous instances of trans representation. One of the pinnacles of tranime if you will
Thankfully Dragon Ball doesn't have any trannies in it, just good old fashioned masculine men duking it out and feminine women for all the horny gays who want to make porn or lewd fanart.
It's one of the few things where the saying "you got to watch until episode X until you get it" is true. By Arlong you understand, by Blackbeard you're converted.
To be fair I was not expecting the gorosei to be so hard line 'CD like'. What we saw of them prior to that was sadness that they had to genocide an entire island because they knew too much and were easily able to throw their weight around ordering a guy employed by them to do his job (even if said guy could roast islands by himself).
I used to think that some of them were the 'well intentioned' keeps of the status quo, but Saturn shows up and he's all 'kill the peasants'.
>oh my god this bad guy is really strong we can't beat him >wait something emotional happened that made the good guy mad. He had a flashback or something about another character crying. >now that the good guy is mad hes stronger than the bad guy. >good guys win again hurray >x1000 episodes
There that's the entire series. This is the trash some anons will convince you is worth tolerating numerous troony characters for
No, it's literally the same formulaic plotline every story arc where it's contrived that the moronic protagonist liberates an island or place with the same shitty 1 dimensional characters and contrived cringe sad moments.
In good shonen, the fighting is just a vehicle for the characters to have a conversation. Hunter X Hunter does this well. I don't care about how Netero hits Meruem I care what he says to Meruem. It's essentially modernist literature but with combat elements. The true masterpieces go a step further and manage to convey the essence of a conversation entirely through the combat. Gojo and Sukuna only exchange a few words, but the artwork conveys an interaction deep enough to fill multiple pages of a novel. One piece accomplishes nothing of this sort
Just a conversation? That's too specific. If you said fights are good for analyzing characters since a fight is essentially a clash of philosophies I would agree. You say you don't care how Netero hits Meruem, but Netero hitting Meruem is an incredible feat born from practicing a prayer motion for decades until Netero's ability to pray became faster than any move Meruem could make. Part of Meruem's development is realizing there are still people that surpass him in some ways even though he was born the pinnacle of evolution.
>be Vegapunk Lilith >talk about robbing ship full of guys >always ends up sucking everyone's wiener and leaving with nothing
What did they mean by this?
It's pretty good but it's not perfect, it has a really good world building and oda is pretty imaginative with the settings and character designs, the farther into the series, the more it touches more mature themes and also a lot of occultism and conspiracy theories, unlike a regular shonen series, this one is much more western friendly, due to all the influences oda has taken, like disney movies and old tom and jerry cartoons.
It suffers from inconsistencies during the fighting, too many conveniences for the plot, like forcing luffy to be out of the story with a very dumb excuse until it's time to fight the bad guy. oda also has a problem of creating too many characters for one arc, killing the pacing without letting the main characters do much, and since he recycles a lot of his ideas, there's a general feeling of following an exhausted formula when you reach the timeskip.
Still, now it's the best time to jump into the series as we're near the end of the story and we're not that far from discovering what the big treasure is, it will be a once in a lifetime experience reading it weekly
Thanks to the one pace project and the colored manga, you don't have to sit through 1100 episodes of toei padding
I honestly wouldn't have got into it if my housemate at the time didn't force me to watch it together and chat shit during those early bits.
If you can make it to Alabasta your most likely into the vibe and look forward to the next episode.
Once you get to Water 7 you're pretty much hooked and can forgive shitty arcs like Filler Bark and Shitman Island.
If there was an AI that could edit out all the padding and flashback sequences out of each episode then it would be worth watching. As it is though at least 50% of each episode is padded to fricking hell
No. The anime becomes complete shit early. Filler arcs. Then during EL the PADDING goes insane. There will be 8 minutes of NEW CONTENT, and it will be dragged out with reaction.jpg and panning shots. There is a charm to the late 90s style before it goes into the 'HD' era from long ring on. The ANIME is fricking terrible, has been for like 15~ years.
Read it. Then MAYBE watch a few iconic fights or moments.
Live action is a complete bastardization, a few characters and arc got deleted. How are they going to work in Hachi at Sabody?
I’m personal waiting for it be remade kek. Iv seen random chapters with friends just for fun. I’m aware of most of the main plot beats and the characters that matter. This show is like only watchable when Im totally and completely hungover or strung out. I just lay there like a zombie and watch weirdly drawn cartoons kill each other
It would take you more than thirty 12-hour days worth of watching this anime to catch up and it jumped the shark with the timeskip and ruined the character designs anyway.
I'd say no. I've only experienced One Piece through the "Warriors" games and every time I've tried to read it, watch it, actually sit down with the full story, it's a fricking slog. There are plenty of better anime worth your time.

Still, now it's the best time to jump into the series as we're near the end of the story and we're not that far from discovering what the big treasure is, it will be a once in a lifetime experience reading it weekly
Thanks to the one pace project and the colored manga, you don't have to sit through 1100 episodes of toei padding
don't
Worth watching until Ennies Lobby, then the having becomes so shit you’re better off reading the manga
I honestly wouldn't have got into it if my housemate at the time didn't force me to watch it together and chat shit during those early bits.
If you can make it to Alabasta your most likely into the vibe and look forward to the next episode.
Once you get to Water 7 you're pretty much hooked and can forgive shitty arcs like Filler Bark and Shitman Island.
lol no. Just watch HunterXHunter like any sane human being.
>lol no. Just watch this anime that will never be finished instead
NTA but reading HxH is a more rewarding experience. One Piece gets pretty basic and repetitive.
Maybe but you're still gonna be left with unanswered expectations since the mangaka's too crippled to properly finish it now.
>alluka exists
Wano is amazing arc, decent pacing too. worth watching for the new power level alone
If there was an AI that could edit out all the padding and flashback sequences out of each episode then it would be worth watching. As it is though at least 50% of each episode is padded to fricking hell
Before the time skip its one of the best shows ever made.
After the time skip its up to you to decide how to feel about it.
The anime?
No, it's a billion episode
Imagine if anime wasn't shit. It's a real shame it's all so fricking awful because I love anime.
No unless you're Latinx and want to watch the same story a hundred times
its wholesome
i wish i had friends like luffy
Go punch girls like Luffy and you'll find your nakama
>the wanpiss pajeet is replying to hours-old posts
who r u quoting
I’m personal waiting for it be remade kek. Iv seen random chapters with friends just for fun. I’m aware of most of the main plot beats and the characters that matter. This show is like only watchable when Im totally and completely hungover or strung out. I just lay there like a zombie and watch weirdly drawn cartoons kill each other
It would take you more than thirty 12-hour days worth of watching this anime to catch up and it jumped the shark with the timeskip and ruined the character designs anyway.
