its not gay you moron, this doesn’t even make any sense, Tyler and the Narrator arent even two different physical people, so they can’t be "gay" with another anyways, and even they were two different people, nothing gay happens in the movie at all. stop trying to shit on the name of a masterpiece.

It's funny, Fight Club the book is one of my favorite books, I've read it four times so far. Each time I get something different from it, it's common to see people mention how fricking gay the book is, the first three times I read it I did not detect any homoeroticism, the last time I read it that shit was super gay and I was honestly surprised at how I had not noticed it before.

Also so many guys on the right love this book and movie but fail to see that it's blatantly left wing, endorses communism, and is written by a gay man.

          Anonymous

if it took you four whole attempts to see this alleged homoeroticism in the book, then maybe there was not any to begin with and yet again, its just your homosexual subconscious infecting your viewpoints on things. keep it to yourself next time bro, no need to share your sins with the world. and better yet, even if the book did have such things in it, the book and movie are entirely separate as most book-to-movie adaptations are, so does it really matter?

Brainlet takes. I'm not at all gay, and never questioned my sexuality. It's not uncommon for people to get different interpretations or notice different things upon rereading their favorite works. That's one of the joys of reading or writing. I already knew Chuck was gay the very first time I read the book, but I was younger in my early 20s and different aspects stand out during those times. Now I'm 35 and have a lot less angst or anger about life, so now I'm able to notice different things about the book now. Still one of my favorite books, and it's honestly something I would tell a younger cousin or my future son to read.

Most people don't notice the gayness until someone points it out to them, raising the question of whether it's really there at all.
          >it's blatantly left wing, endorses communism, and is written by a gay man.
Gay men are by definition confused about sex, so it's understandable that they're confused about politics as well. But it's important to bear in mind that huge numbers of otherwise sensible people once thought left-wing politics had some good ideas, and also that if the book had been explicitly right-wing, it wouldn't have gotten published.

            >Most people don't notice the gayness until someone points it out to them, raising the question of whether it's really there at all.
It's pretty blatantly there. My excuse for missing it was that people often times go out of their way to label things as gay, on both sides of the spectrum,. Supporters are too eager to find homosexuality in something and detractors are even more eager to call something gay. The late 90s and early aughts were not gay friendly, so to me all of it was just normal gay panic, people just being too eager for a witch hunt, even though I knew the author was gay, I interpreted the interactions and the way the main character talks about the other men in the story as nothing more than observant, and as a writer myself the language Chuck uses and the imagery he builds now sticks out as homoerotic.
            >also that if the book had been explicitly right-wing, it wouldn't have gotten published.
This isn't true at all, have you never been in a room or building with multiple books in it?

It definitely created a whole next level tier of cope haters uncomfortable with what it actually says, so there's definitely something going on with it outside of the norm. If nothing else it coined the term "snowflake" for special needs cases. It is what it is. It is one of the three greats of the 90s. The other two are Matrix and Dark City. As in cultural zeitgeist kind of thing.

The movie is just a visual representation of what the author wrote, i'll even go as far as saying that the gay subtext idea could be discarded if they had normal looking protagonists(kinda unrealistic, this is a movie after all no one wants to pay to see their look alike everyday joe) but no, literally two male aesthetic icons, and above all struggling with their "maleness"
it's all so fishy but you still can consider it "hehe i'm le anarcho street fighter rebelling against le kapitalism"

                Anonymous

no, youre wrong, a visual representation of what the author wrote would be having the author be the writer and/or the director of the movie as well, not just him being the writer of the book that it was inspired by. book to movie adaptations are heavily known for going against very basic or large things that happen in the book that end up changing things to make almost an entirely different narrative, in this case, it successfully cleaned out any ounce of homosexuality that the book had and started with a nice clean slate for the movie, hence why its so likable and more well known then the homo's book. Also, applying the word subtext to everything can lead to any and all pieces of media being considered literally anything, its a stupid argument that holds little to no meaning, fight club is NOT gay in any way, even subtext or whatever other stupid made up words you want to throw at it in an attempt to attach your homosexual urges to a masterpiece, its just strange and you probably need therapy. There is nothing fishy or weird happening in the movie or in the casting that connects to same-sex attraction, you are literally just subconsciously viewing it like that because YOU are gay and in the closet, get help.
                also, nice samegayging

                lmao okay gay
