Just remembered that Penguins of Madagascar film is a sequel, since it takes place after the third film instead of before the first film. Therefore, Dreamworks hasn't made any prequel films yet.

It's a perfectly fine movie, it's mostly held back by how much the third act shits all over the movie's real conflict and ruins Chelsea as a character, but it's not really bad. I'd watch this over a shit ton of mediocre to crap movies, and even over some good movies if only because I think the characters are neat

She's a shitty twist villain, the marketing just spoiled she's the villain to begin with
Her fake backstory to garner sympathy would have had more weight if it was real and backfires hard since it'd be akin to making Toothless turn out to be evil

Good! is nice having a movie were the evil is evil.
I knew that going in, but her appearance and role in the movie kinda fricks things up. I felt like the most important thing that drove the movie's plot was Ruby's conflicts with her mom and grandma and her coming into her own identity seperate from what they each think is better for her. Chelsea's writing as a villain not only overrides that plot but also validates the grandma and mom's views by proving that mermaids are all supposedly shitheels.
Would've been better if she was actually good because it would add onto Ruby's troubles with her family, not only going against their views of who she should be but against their views of the world and the sea in general. But no, had to have a shitty MCU esque final fight

It’ll do better on streaming platforms. It’s not a terrible movie, but it really fumbled the ball with the early yuri hype.
