Anon, no one managing either the Star Wars or Star Trek franchise gave a shit about the other. They weren't even competitors. That all happened because people couldn't quit sniffing their own farts.

          Anonymous

They were in direct competition with each other. Competing brands that may not take exactly the same space in every way, there was large and obvious overlap with each other that had them fighting over consumers.

            they were unironic opposites.

Star Wars is fantasy, Star Trek is harder sci fi.

Star Wars is a film series and toys primarily

Star Trek is TV and books primarily.

the moronic nerd wars only started when they briefly crossed thier spheres of influence and even then, it was because of EU nerds.fopr both franchises.

            >They were in direct competition with each other.
For what? Use of the word "Star"? Star Wars and Star Trek never had a movie released in the same year until 2016. Never had a TV show running the same year until the following year 2017. Both of those can be summed up as "Never happened until Disney bought SW" which was just part of the sudden full saturation blitz on both Disney and Paramount's parts. Even the TV reruns weren't in competition time slots.

Maybe you're pissed your corner con paid to get Nichelle Nichols to make an appearance instead of Carrie Fisher. But thinking that's as direct of a competition as Burger King is in with Firestone Tire.

      Anime are suck now
Anime used to be legendary for its sexual content. "Hentai" has been one of the most searched terms on the web for over 25 years for a reason. Nudity and panties used to appear in shows of all demographics. There were OVAs that purposely aimed for the ecchi and hentai market (Cream Lemon for example showed uncensored pussy back in the 80s). There was also more experimental films like A Thousand and One Nights which have no real equivalent by today's standards. Sex in anime has been muted substantially, and fanservice today is based around buying blu-rays so a layer of steam can be removed from a bath scene.

        Almost certainly

CWC posted the first sonichu comics in 2000, years before social media juggernauts like Youtube and Facebook even existed, much less before they took over the internet. These people were always lurking in the corners of human society, the internet just made them more visible.

my observation is that the old internet appeals to autistics: it takes a lot of focus and dedication to be able to set up a connection. now that virtually anyone can use the internet, the market shape the internet with the goal to gain as much attention from the internet as possible. the infrastructure they built appeals to people with adhd. so nowadays fandoms come across more as impulsive and trying to gain attention as much as possible, compared to fandoms of the past, where it's mostly nerds who want to share their interests.

        Oh yes, they were.

When DC Comics made Hal Jordan, their primary Green Lantern since the 60s, go evil back in the 90s and replaced him with a young hip self insert named Kyle (due to weakening sales and interest in the franchise), Halgays went more insane than their character did.

They formed Hal's Emerald Attack Team, or HEAT for short. They took out an ad in Wizard magazine (the most popular comics magazine back then), pissed themselves all over various forums and message boards, raided trucks, burnt books, threatened the creative team of the book, sent mail to DC about how pissed they were, and they allegedly sent bomb threats to DC's headquarters. They later changed their name to Hal's Emerald Advancement Team due to the amount of threats.

Whale based marketing from micro transaction games seeping into non gaming types of products is another problem.

Jimmy Pop said "A-hole bands have a-hole fans". It's the same with fandoms. Current shows and movies are dull and repulsive in looks and essence, and they attract such people around them.
Kids are tuning out, leaving only sociopolitically indoctrinated adults to watch them. As long as a show has homosexuality and surface level antiracism in it, someone is going to clap like a seal.

I could, if I was willing to risk a ban, make 20 threads in the next 20 minutes about how 'Teen Titans is an allegory for global warming'. This does not mean that 'the fandom' holds that belief, it means that I am idiot who refuses to shut up.

Fandoms have always been horrible (Starwars fans almost drove the Jar Jar binks guy into suicide and bullied a child actor to the point the kid developed severe mental issues). The only thing is that specialized fan fourms died out in favor of social media and YouTube whose algorithms boost annoying hate shit 24/7 for a profit instead of actually making engaging platforms to discuss and consume your favorite media
