Season 3 is decisive,on one hand it airing on cn first and doing so right as stuff like adventure time regular show mad and stuff like combined with the song gimmick led to it definitely being the season with the most nostalgic fans, the writing goes to shut half was through and even though the love triangle arc was like 4 episodes long the season still feels a lot less interesting afterwards especially with how predictable the final 4 and finale felt
Season 4 was weird like it was the definition of middle of the road some of its episodes were good especially around the earlyish section of the season after dawns elimination it drops a bit but generally most of the episodes aren’t bad , it feels like these days though it’s mostly remembered for its cast and not so much the actual challenges or anything and the fact that it’s the only season to have a finale that isn’t a race
Season 5 was an all stars season and took the worst aspects of the previous two and multiplied them leading to the season being pretty notorious it also feels like it doesn’t fully know what to do with the gen 1 cast , some episodes they’ll want you to root for them or feel bad for one of them and the next they’ll make a character a total b***h and basically scream at you to hate them

Once again it's up to Alec, Ellie, Miriam and Fiore to carry the show but two of them are already gone while the fricking Jomden bullshit gets to skate by scot free. Say what you want about Gwuncney, but at least their triangle happened mid-way into WT when everyone else already had things going on and it only lasted for a few episodes. The fact that the fanbase hates on Ellie for actually playing the game while loving Jake for constantly crying and accusing others of bullshit is just the cherry on top.

Fiore from Disventure Camp (specifically her All-Stars design), it is a hispanic made youtube series that is based on Total Drama in style and content (not meant to be actual Total Drama, just the same style of show) and she was a contestant in 3 of the seasons (if you count pilot season).
seasons 1-3 are a nice mix of a fun moronic plot and all the characters are fun to see on screen, and I gotta give it props for the creators making a non-adult rated cartoon, with teens that actually act like teens, wanting to frick each other and getting into the most worthless drama ever while also being brats.

Most TD fans in general today are female, and most Cody fans like to ship him as the "soft boy" in gay ships (Cody x Noah typically, occasional x Alejandro, Trent, or Harold).
The Cody worship era of the TD fandom was genuinely a "You had to be there" moment. The fact that the show referenced them not just once, but twice (one of them being a full fledged character parodying them) goes to show how insane it was.

The difference is that while Bridgette's personality is being nice to others, the later girls are just nice in contrast to others.
Priya for example isn't even a nice person, she's incredibly vindictive and tried to murder both her best friend and her crush. But she's the "nice" one of the cast because the show always paints her in the right and goes out of its way to point out everybody else's mistakes. The fact that Millie got eliminated twice for her mistakes while Priya would go on to make the same mistakes or worse and be rewarded for it is insane.
Same goes for Sky, she's kinda just a b***h through and through but we're supposed to see the rest of the cast as being wackjob weirdos that she has to put up with. And Zoey, while not outwardly mean, would constantly jump to conclusions and wallow in self-pity instead of putting in the effort to be nice and talk things out with anyone. Even she almost let Cameron get killed.
None of them are actually nice girls. It's just the show telling us they're supposed to be nice because everyone else is mean, silly or - god forbid - trying to make up for their mistakes.

if i was given complete control over a total drama season i'd put all the generic nice characters on one team(so they can agonize over voting each other off) and the two finalists would be a gross weirdo hermit and an obvious patrick bateman expy
gwen is not a generic nice girl, she's cold and stand offish throughout season one to everyone she interacts with except leshawna, trent, and bridgette (though the latter two relationships are also like half bonding, half arguing) and only warms up to geoff/cody over time.
sure she's kind of just the rude goth girl who doesn't wanna be there at first but she develops a lot more in the merge, especially the last few episodes. all of the final four have like two episodes that are essentially just character development for them because they're all that's left for the show to focus on
brigitte had much more personality than the others but that's just my opinion
bridgette is more in line with this archetype but she's still allowed to be flawed like being clumsy despite being an athlete and being kind of dense sometimes. she also has a strong tomboyish babysitter/big sister type vibe that sets her apart from the generic nice girls of later generations.
but in general i think season one will always be the irreplaceable blueprint of lightning in a bottle that they just can't capture now because of how dumbed down and cartoonish the show has become. like rewatching premerge island episodes where the characters are allowed to flourish & grow with naturally dramatic confrontations are so much better than the modern equivalent of petty argument > characters get interchangeably hurt in an ice cave for 20 minutes > underwhelming boot that was hardly built up
Disagree. Gwen starts falling into a lot of the same stupid pitfalls and writing contrivances as the later generic nice girls as the later seasons go on. You can start to see the signs of this even in the original Island, especially in the romance plot with Trent where she will randomly get mad at him for things he did many episodes ago when they need to have drama between them. Also she insults Geoff in the finale by calling him a party obsessed jerk like four episodes after supposedly warming up to him. Rewatch with a critical eye and Island's supposed natural development is full of holes and inconsistencies.
It gets so much worse in Action and World Tour where she dumps Trent after assuming the absolute worst about his 9 thing (a conflict that could literally have been cleared up with a 5 minute honest conversation if Gwen gave any fricks about Trent) and then decides she wants to help Duncan have an affair. Any paper thin pretense of Gwen having developed in Island is absolutely shattered by her appearances in later seasons, they just make her do horrible shit and you're supposed to cheer for her because she's the designated relatable snarky loner surrounded by losers, psychos and idiots who deserve no sympathy from her.

The fact that this show gave us three accurate flavors of goth via Gwen, Crimson, and Scary Girl is beyond based in itself..
Island is amazing, Action is great and World Tour felt like a good place to wrap it up. Revenge of the island is pretty average, All-Stars is terrible because it was pretty much Total Drama Character Assassination and Pahkitew Island could've used more episodes to flesh out the characters.
Ridonculous Race was a much needed breathe of fresh air and reignited my love for the series. I still have to watch the latest season.

The difference is that while Bridgette's personality is being nice to others, the later girls are just nice in contrast to others.
Priya for example isn't even a nice person, she's incredibly vindictive and tried to murder both her best friend and her crush. But she's the "nice" one of the cast because the show always paints her in the right and goes out of its way to point out everybody else's mistakes. The fact that Millie got eliminated twice for her mistakes while Priya would go on to make the same mistakes or worse and be rewarded for it is insane.
Same goes for Sky, she's kinda just a b***h through and through but we're supposed to see the rest of the cast as being wackjob weirdos that she has to put up with. And Zoey, while not outwardly mean, would constantly jump to conclusions and wallow in self-pity instead of putting in the effort to be nice and talk things out with anyone. Even she almost let Cameron get killed.
None of them are actually nice girls. It's just the show telling us they're supposed to be nice because everyone else is mean, silly or - god forbid - trying to make up for their mistakes.

Jo too. We were supposed to think Anne Maria was a b***h, but she saved Jo from drowning when Zoey was standing on that air hose while projecting her insecurities onto Mike. I always thought that the original idea of Zoey was that we were supposed to think she was kind of vapid and shallow (early 2010s hipstergay wannabe), but that kind of got lost halfway through the season.
if i was given complete control over a total drama season i'd put all the generic nice characters on one team(so they can agonize over voting each other off) and the two finalists would be a gross weirdo hermit and an obvious patrick bateman expy
gwen is not a generic nice girl, she's cold and stand offish throughout season one to everyone she interacts with except leshawna, trent, and bridgette (though the latter two relationships are also like half bonding, half arguing) and only warms up to geoff/cody over time.
sure she's kind of just the rude goth girl who doesn't wanna be there at first but she develops a lot more in the merge, especially the last few episodes. all of the final four have like two episodes that are essentially just character development for them because they're all that's left for the show to focus on
bridgette is more in line with this archetype but she's still allowed to be flawed like being clumsy despite being an athlete and being kind of dense sometimes. she also has a strong tomboyish babysitter/big sister type vibe that sets her apart from the generic nice girls of later generations.
but in general i think season one will always be the irreplaceable blueprint of lightning in a bottle that they just can't capture now because of how dumbed down and cartoonish the show has become. like rewatching premerge island episodes where the characters are allowed to flourish & grow with naturally dramatic confrontations are so much better than the modern equivalent of petty argument > characters get interchangeably hurt in an ice cave for 20 minutes > underwhelming boot that was hardly built up
Disagree. Gwen starts falling into a lot of the same stupid pitfalls and writing contrivances as the later generic nice girls as the later seasons go on. You can start to see the signs of this even in the original Island, especially in the romance plot with Trent where she will randomly get mad at him for things he did many episodes ago when they need to have drama between them. Also she insults Geoff in the finale by calling him a party obsessed jerk like four episodes after supposedly warming up to him. Rewatch with a critical eye and Island's supposed natural development is full of holes and inconsistencies.
It gets so much worse in Action and World Tour where she dumps Trent after assuming the absolute worst about his 9 thing (a conflict that could literally have been cleared up with a 5 minute honest conversation if Gwen gave any fricks about Trent) and then decides she wants to help Duncan have an affair. Any paper thin pretense of Gwen having developed in Island is absolutely shattered by her appearances in later seasons, they just make her do horrible shit and you're supposed to cheer for her because she's the designated relatable snarky loner surrounded by losers, psychos and idiots who deserve no sympathy from her.
