Is Twitter/Letterboxd the worse place in the internet to talk about movies?

Is Twitter/Letterboxd the worse place in the internet to talk about movies? I swear 90% of the people from "Film Twitter" seem to be in some kind of cult or circlejerk, always following the same accounts, repeating the same opinions, making the same jokes and talking the same way, blocking every time you give an argument on why they're wrong or just replying with an smug or sarcastic joke, or calling their friends so they can act like some sort of bully gang from high school. Even IMDb forums weren't this bad.

    Welcome to normie invaded internet.

They don't like things because they intrinsically enjoy it. They just want to use it as a platform for cliques and shoving in their social hierarchies. God forbid you violate their version of things or their egos. They'll get on their mod account and give you a ban.

      >he thinks it’s normies
Like another guy said, twitter is where a large bulk of tumblr users migrated to after the porn-ban. The ex-tumblrgays would go to other sites and forums but twitter would receive the most cancerous ones because it was where most of the art/porn guys went.
What others don’t bring up is that goons from SA had also begun colonizing twitter years ago with weird twitter and other le antihumor corncob irony type shit being the work of various goons from fyad.
When the tumblrites moved in, they found out about goon-humor and that’s why twitter is so shit.
This is why people who say tumblr is the biggest cancer of the internet are wrong. It’s actually somethingawful, with tumblr coming in second.

Fair point, I think I did get a little carried away.

I’m talking about the projection of “objective artistic quality” onto whatever isn’t trash in theaters. A pretentious film student mindset stuck in the body of someone who doesn’t understand when they’re being fed slop. Nothing has been worth going to the theater for over two years, yet they always preach how “*THIS ONE* IS SAVING CINEMAAAA!” every few months. Rinse and repeat. They want to feel like they’re a part of something, and it’s easier to take part when everyone else is already aware of something in public media. This is the embrace of the arthouse circle jerk by those that only care if it’s popular. Similar to A24 becoming a brand over a production company. They don’t actually understand anything about why we analyze. They just want to feel smart and capable. If you don’t go along with it, you’re automatically seen as fringe. I probably am insecure about the whole thing because it feels like we can’t actually connect on experiences with art. We have to connect on what the “culture” is pushing.

      >They don't like things because they intrinsically enjoy it
I think about this a lot and I think it's something literally nobody is immune to. How large a percentage of say the "Stalker" fanbase by Tarkovsky would even finish that movie if it wasn't for its reputation?
That's not me saying it's a bad movie by the way, I'm saying what is the true percentage of people that genuinely love that movie for the movie that it is, and not for the cultural importance it holds?

I think no doubt there would be people that love it but I think a majority of even Cinemaphile users wouldn't even have finished watching it if they didn't go into it knowing its an important film. I know I wouldn't have, and maybe thats a total admission of me just projecting here but I don't know. I think nobody is immune to this shit.

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE FRICKING SAID IT.

I’ve hated the hive-mind of “film culture” they’ve built in those places for years now. It’s like a bunch of pretentious film students repeating the same opinions and praising the same masters without any actual thought themselves. Movies are about your personal experience, but they can’t comprehend that because they need to feel smarter than everyone else by understanding specific culture that never mattered to the art form anyway. The sarcasm/bullying is legitimately all they know because they all believe in a simple black-and-white understanding of the world. They already said what they should for the newest theater slop, so why should they think any deeper? If you call it out, of course the tribe feels threatened.

TL;DR: They don’t watch movies. They comment on film.

Failed filmmakers from Twitter may be the worse. I see tweets from "filmmakers" with 50k likes and stuff, talking pretentious shit ALWAYS, giving tips or trying to shit in a popular movie or pretending to be "experts" and then you search their names and they're literal nobodies and losers, their projects and shorts are pure garbage, and just do podcasts and tweet shit all day, and it makes me wonder if Twitter is some sort of alternate reality or something.

I've been using Xitter a lot lately since it switched to a video platform more or less. I just get fed a bunch of videos and memes by the algorithm and its pretty alright. Reddit got sanitized after 2016 and is now literally just bots shilling garbage, its a useless site even from an entertainment point of view, like its not even good for just watching videos anymore. Cinemaphile is too mentally ill to ever evolve past the trump era, its completely stagnated, what used to be the internet getting all their memes from Cinemaphile is now a thing of the past, now its discord and I refuse to hang in discords with a bunch of zoomers.

You know its bad when xitter videos are unironically more fun than the extremely mentally ill fricking YLYL threads on gif and wsg that have just been invaded by one mentally ill moron spamming his shit forever. I would never create a tiktok account, but tiktok has a lot of fun unhinged shit, which is something youtube doesn't allow and hasn't promoted or encouraged for over 10 years now so its just a sanitized boring site you go to to watch produced content now, basically tv-lite.

While I find the site/app is easiest to use and also the rating system is easiest to interpret personally, the Letterboxd written reviews are the worst by far because of the massive skew towards females and the extremely high % of libtarded/LGBTQ """people""" and allies who are obsessed with identity politics. All the top reviews are filled with commentary on how the movie was great "but gets knocked down 2 stars because of ["problematic" thing]" or pointing out how despite the movie not being gay, the movie was totally gay and that's a good thing, here's why, or women/beta man just thirsting over [male character] and either wanting to be with him or get cucked by him.
