forget it jake, it's leftist town
If people find motivation from it then its motivational
if people believe it's JLaws butthole then it is her butthole
Is Faust a motivational character? Why are chuds and Indians so fricking bad at interpreting media correctly?
It’s somewhere in between motivational and depressing and both readings are fine, but only one without the other is incorrect. The message in your OP is partly incorrect, because it’s not true — people DO have fundamental limitations — but it’s also a useful belief to hold in that it motivates people to work harder, even possibly inspiring greatness, and therefore true from that perspective.
The movie does however, as people have criticised, treat drumming like a sport rather than music, which always and especially in the case of jazz involves a sense of fun, relaxation and play. You can’t get that only from working hard since working hard is antithetical to it.
>Alles kann der Edle leisten, der versteht und rasch ergreift!
There are motivational elements to Faust certainly. Faust is a tragedy in part one but also (spoilers) one that ultimately ends in salvation in part two. His deal with the devil is sanctioned by God who knows that Faust never truly lost his soul in the process — Faust is in some ways Goethe’s theodicy.
>ultimately ends in salvation in part two.
Part Two is sucha a shitshow, he completely forgets about Gretchen, instead chases Helena, has a child whom kills himself. Then for no reason, after all the shit hes done, God just suddenly forgives him. I will never accept that Part Two is cannon. First part is a masterpiece.
Not for no reason -- God's forgiveness of Faust is implicit even in the prologue of part one, since it's implied God knows the outcome of Mephistopheles' temptation via predestination. The ultimate goodness in the effect of Faust's temptation is also implicit in some of the most famous lines of the play ("Ich bin ein Teil von jener Kraft/ die stets das Böse will und stets das Gute schafft"). The whole thing is symmetrically constructed, part two is not a sequel but a completion of the whole. I agree part one is more naturalistically satisfying but part two shows the deeper symbolic significance of part one.
maybe it's motivational for butthole teachers, ever think about that you dumb b***h?
>Whiplash is up there with Rashomon for most misinterpreted film ever
That’s not how I remember it!
funniest line on the Simpsons.
doesn't understand that it's motivational for abusive band-leaders
t. abusive band-leader
kek
It's about a kid making a choice between being elite and being a human being holy shit how can morons not get this
Underrated
Baaased
I don't think the ending of whiplash was meant to be completely 100% bad, after all he does achieve mastery and accomplish his goal. Whether or not it was worth it is purposely left up to interpretation
>Whether or not it was worth it is purposely left up to interpretation
Of course its worth it.
>did he loose he gf
yep
>did he almost die because he got hit by a truck?
you bet
But it doesn't matter he will find someone else that appreciates him for what he has accomplished. And he will probably get to be in a band or whatever makes jazz drummers rich.
> whatever makes jazz drummers rich.
Daytrading and waitering at Michelin restaurants.
>finally, I’ve become the next Louis “No Stick” Crick. My name will be remembered along with the jazz drum greats like “Skeebop” Tompkins and Murray F Murray
>Cinemaphile has never read Faust
The west has actually fallen, Jesus Christ.
t.never tried in real life
Why are left Black folk so uppity about muh meedeeyuh litrissy these days holy frick.
It’s not a power fantasy for students where working hard accomplishes their goals. It’s an art school fantasy where you get to see a teacher that actually gives a shit whether you’re good or not.
The teacher saw he was talented and pushed him. The ending was the main characters triumph though not his. Feminists just expect victories without struggle
Fletcher (simmons) did nothing wrong. Teller’s Andrew was hard working and earnest, but was immature and lacked confidence and drive. The music business, never mind NYC music scene, is ruthless and unfair and he would have been eaten up and spat out and ended up teaching high school band if Fletcher didn’t put him through the paces, teach him the top exacting standards expected of professionals, and to be arrogant in his talent. The fact is, in art, talent recognizes talent. But the difference between a third chair and soloist is knowing your talent and pushing it yourself.
The difference between third chair and soloist is the literal chair thrown at his head by Fletcher.
I think even the creator of Whiplash says that the kid would end up killing himself from drug OD a few years after the movie because of all the abuse and pressure of being great. But yeah, Whiplash isn't intended to be motivational. I see it more as a cautionary tale of the pursuit of greatness. main character basically alienates himself with his obsession to please his teacher and be considered a great drummer. He loses his girlfriend, has no friends, even his dad looks on in shock during the finale.
>be Damien
>make dark, accidentally based film about psychotic determination and it both making you and destroying you
>determined to reach the top of Hollywood makes La La Land, one of the corniest most normie and Hollywood exec friendly fluff to come from a writer/director in years
>eventually alienates himself from all of Hollywood with the expensive, indulgent Babylon
pottery
They should release the version where JK Simons goes to prison for decapitating a student with a crash cymbal
>your honor, it wasn’t my tempo!
It simply depicts the cost of being the best. What it means is left to the viewer. In my experience, leftoids take the most whimpering, pathetic interpretation possible -- denying the value of greatness entirely.
Everyone has value, anon.
bump
You would know that's a lie if you ever bettered yourself
that's astonishingly not true at all on any level you mediocre homosexual
Why are you so mad? What does value mean to you?
This is another good way go put it. And people wonder why art is in the state that it is today. It's all being made by winners of participation trophies
The best scene in the movie is where Andrew is at dinner with his family and he goes on his autistic rant about famous drummers and how famous he is going to be, and his family is far more interested in talking about football.
Even if literally everything went his way and he became the best drummer ever no one outside of a very niche circle of the already niche jazz drummer scene would even care. Its like being the best tractor racer – sure thats kinda cool and all but its not worth an heroing yourself over it
The real question is would Andrew still play the drums if it was certain he would never be famous or even confirmed “good.”
And the cousins were doing their best to take an interest in his autistic crap. He couldn’t take 2 seconds to try and appreciate their achievements in football
It's D2
>t. loser
This film is motivational, but not in the sense of "no pain, no gain" as generally considered. It's mostly about being an independent individual who is not pussyfooting around. When Fletcher asked Newman whether it was rushing or dragging, he didn't really care about the technique, he wanted him to give any straight answer without whining and mumbling.
Except you can hear him rush/drag
The teacher was a dom daddy and the student was a big M twink. In the end they both discovered the heart and soul of jazz, and neither could have made that journey alone. Sure, it's a tragedy. But isn't love tragic?
It's honestly one of the greatest LGBTQIA2S+ films of the last decade. Twitter chuds will never understand.
I don't know why in every thread discussing this film people forget the scene where Fletcher's former student kills himself because of the PTSD he suffered under his teacher's bullying and abuse. And Fletcher tells his other students that he died in a car crash and pretends he didn't kill himself. That was the most blatant part of the movie that showed Fletcher is a complete butthole and his teaching method doesn't even work because it kills his students ability to function in life.
It does work that student was just too weak for it to work.
His teaching method filters the weak.
To be fair, that student was a bit of a lil b***h. Getting a B- probably would’ve drove him to suicide too.
Maybe he should have been a better jazz drummer.
you have never played an instrument
Ironically, I was so good at singing that I never received any level of direction from my high school or college professors/directors. The closest to a Fletcher I ever got was a hardass gay stage manager, who was annoying but ran a tight ship. Toughen up, cream puff.
>I was so good at singing that I never received any level of direction from my high school or college professors/directors.
lol no, you are delusional
moron, teachers JUMP on the opportunity to help gifted students, it's the hopeless, unskilled shits that get ignored
While an emperors new clothing situation would make for a much better story, unfortunately that isn’t the case. Mom was a professional opera singer turned voice teacher. Starred as Conrad Birdie in two separate productions of Bye Bye Birdie, funny enough. Maybe you guys just don’t wanna be good hard enough.
Oh damn, he impersonated Elvis twice. We’ve got a real pro on our hands, boys.
>Mom was a professional opera singer turned voice teacher.
so she was so bad at singing she couldnt make a career out of it and had to become a teacher? lmao okay
>Starred as Conrad Birdie in two separate productions of Bye Bye Birdie
and??? anyone can put on a production of a play or musical, unless its on broadway or specifically a touring show by a notable company, it doesnt mean shit lmao
It's motivational in a pyrrhic sense, Miles Teller's life is basically in shambles but he at least held on to his dignity by playing the drum part perfectly and telling his teacher to go frick himself. It's comforting to see a story where someone does truly have a talent in them that they're able to show off in spite of adversity, but the whole movie is about Teller using this as a substitute for any direction in his life and giving up any idea that he lives for anything besides music, and that's not really motivational because the dude's become a fricking whacko like J.K. Simmons
This method of teaching is entirely ineffective. Only morons think everything in life should be like joining the marines. If you find out motivating you're probably the kind of moron who enjoys guru podcasts.
If it's entirely ineffective why does the military use it?
Because there are actual life and death situations in the military. There are no such situations in a liberal arts college so it is entirely unnecessary.
You’ve never been to a regional jazz competition.
What kind of loser dies in a Jazz competition?
The ones that aren’t playing right. Chairs can do some damage, man.
That aspect of it is irrelevant, The military does it because it creates discipline and focus which has carry over to any skill.
Not sure, outside of basic all it did was piss me off and make me do a worse job and not give a shit. Might work better for grunt stuff but not technical work.
T-Army man for 5 years.
Media Literacy and Death of the Author linked up
its what a moron who never worked a single second in the industry or never even picked up the most simple insturment would think it is... in actual reality its just a movie about a old boomer moron being a child abuser
No because his motivations changed to a selfish pursuit for approval from someone treating him like shit. It was toxic.
I think the best you can take from it is hope that he'll take it easy from now on
It a movie that separates the wheat from the chaff. Weaklings and mediocre/dysgenic/lowest common denominator/"media literacy" types will try to whine that it's "abusive".
People who understand the challenges and ordeal towards greatness will cherish and be motivated by it.
Jazz is the model train hobby of music.
It's incredibly autistic and literally nobody gives a frick except other obsessive aubreaststs.
"I listen to jazz" - Literally nobody normal in current year
>push relativism for a century
>"um ackshually you're interpreting this subjective work of art incorrectly"
these people don't have any beliefs, they're just aspiring tyrants
Another good point. They only claimed "everything's subjective" to undermine tradition. None of the shit they wanna push is open to any interpretation.
I'm so tired of incels telling me how to feel. He had a goal and achieved it. Cry harder cucks
>Jazz is the ultimate free-form music style
>Fletcher spergs out the moment someone doesn’t do something exactly the way he expected it.
I have no respect for a man like that
I thought the ending was meant to be ambiguous and up to the viewer to determine for themselves. Did the director or writer say something one way or the other?
while it is motivational, aspiring to be a little drummer boy is gay af lmao
REMINDER THAT YOU ARE HERE
>you can't be motivated from something negative
leftychuds are so moronic it's not even fun
>its motivational
>no its about how abusers win
Twitterfolk this days, sigh. Its about sacrifice, struggle and passion. You're not going to motivate most people with this kind of movie and it certainly isn't about the teacher, its about the student.
>being the best you can be isn't inspirational because the motivator isn't le heckin wholesome chungus
