Isn't it fricking wild how the hopes and future of DC as a film franchise currently rest, of all things, on Blue fricking Beetle?

I'm looking forward to it but does anyone else even care? There doesn't seem to be any buzz about it at all. It's two months to release and there's still only the one trailer. WB clearly doesn't give a shit.

Is there any hope it'll at least be a surprise hit? The few action shots we saw looked kinda Tokusatsu inspired so I'm hoping it might click with that audience.

    >Isn't it fricking wild how the hopes and future of DC as a film franchise currently rest, of all things, on Blue fricking Beetle?
Except its not. Blue Beetle was a streaming service project that got bumped up to theater release in an effort to boost profits. It's a one and done leftover of a dead cinematic universe with no real plans of continuation

And no I can't get excited over it because Ted isn't in it. I wanted him to be the mentor role for Jaime

Jaime not having Ted to start mirrors Ted not having Dan.

Im alright with Ted being introduced later when Jaime is in over his head and needs to ask for help

But you could have had that in this film. Im so fricking fed up with every film being a drawn out two hour commercial for another film that may never happen. That's why ASM2 sucked ass

thats is understandable, though my bigger concern is the villain doest seem to be appealing.

Doesn't Blue Beetle's most memorable run take place after Ted is fricking dead?

        Anonymous

yeah, but his last incarnation has Ted as his mentor... not a particularly good run

        Anonymous

In more recent runs Ted is like "ground control", a semi-retired hero who runs computer stuff while Jaime is in the field. It's not a bad arc for Ted considering the traumatic shit of getting shot by Maxwell Lord and questioning if you still should be a hero.

Plus, like Spider-Verse, it doesn’t have 300 million budget.

Since Susan Sarandon plays Ted’s sister though, expect Ted to be a senior citizen.

I want to be excited by this. I like how the suit looks and the actor choice is solid. But why do Blue Beetle adaptations keep cutting out Paco and Brenda? Why are Jaime and Milagro older than they should be? Why randomly give Ted a sister instead of using Jarvis Kord or introducing La Dama?

In the newer mini-series, they made her Ted's older sister, so maybe he won't be THAT old.

it will have the opposite effect, considering they put more money into the VFX and a theater release has additional costs

Not the same situation. Ted wasn't in fricking high school when he started his career. Also no one cares about Dan.

        >Ted wasn't in fricking high school when he started his career.

Which is why a high schooler getting an alien device he barely understands is a more interesting narrative than if he just has Ted to solve problems for him.
The scarab is already too OP. If he has that plus Ted to figure things out there's no angle.

          >Which is why a high schooler getting an alien device he barely understands is a more interesting narrative than if he just has Ted to solve problems for him.
Who said anything about "solving the problem"? Ted doesn't understand The Scarab either. Ted should be Jaime's rock, a man that has been where Jaime's currently going through, doing the best he can to make sure Jaime doesn't make the same mistakes. Ted doesn't have all the answers.

Yes! Same! I hope it will be very toku and that it will be an unexpected hit.

Only obnoxious buttholes use "unapologetically". They do it to imply that they're oh so brave for breaking a taboo that they've invented. The only way Blue Beetle could be "unapologetically latino" and good is if it incorporated Dragonball and lucha libre.

I'm trying to be optimistic and hoping that maybe because it's gone under the radar at DC for so long that they might have been able to do something good with it.

Nearly every failure that DC has had lately has been due to executive meddling or lack of direction. Flash, Shazam 2, BA, WW84.

There's a small possibility that because none of the higher ups were paying attention to BB that we might get a Dark Souls like situation were the creators actually get to put some passion and soul into the project instead of making another assembly line product.

Personally, I'm putting my hopes on the action. The actor for Jaime is a talented martial artist And and unkown so he keeps his mask on. It feels like this movie might be what a real high budget Toku project could be.

It rested on the hands by the rock and fricked everything up. Now it's Gunn who's the last bastion of hope. And if that fails DCEU is fricking over.

Blue Beetle is like a sample for what's to come. And I agree WB doesn't really fricking care.

No it doesn't, this and any subsequent movies are coming out wether we want it or not, they'll mark it as a forgotten movie if its a loss, or celebrate it like the second coming of scorcese if it's a win. This movie basically paid for itself already.

From what I read it's not canon to the Gunnverse. The character and actor might be carried over, IF it succeeds. I tend to think they will not want to advertise that heavily after Flash flopped. The "Batman is a fascist" line probably turned a lot of people off. It looks sort of generic (Spider-man + Green Lantern, but Mexican). Normies don't know him.

oh christ no, it's absolutely fricked now

if it wasn't fricked before it's just fricking doomed now, there's not going to be a moment between now and next month when people just forget how bad DC movies suck, even the die hards who went to see every movie this year must be feeling like suckers right now

I feel bad for these people because obviously they're doing something exciting and hopefully well paid but shit dude it's got "DC" on the label, might as well be acting in infomercials for all the good it'll do their careers
