They dropped the ball as soon as it degenerated into titan shifter bullshit, the stakes became zero when the characters can magically regrow limbs and do fake deaths.
It could have been salvaged if they had the balls to kill M*kasa and Captain Manlet. Titan shifters are bullshit but not as much as God-mode Mary Sues that are supposed to be normal humans.
Thr problem is that it has no drawbacks. It's literally just going super saiyan when in reality that shit should take a HUGE toll on a normal human body.

To thinking it's actually kind of interesting when I binged the entire manga in highschool, to thinking Bleach was better and cooler. To having a newfound appreciation for it when I looked more closely at the characters and how surprisingly human some acted. To now...my memory of the series is hazy. I stopped reading early into the timeskip arc because I was caught up and tired of waiting.
It's just fun to ACTUALLY look back at the series now that I'm much older and try to understand what made it so different and gripping. Mind you, the series didn't become the phenomenon it was until right before the timeskip arc I think. In the anime.
Bleach and DBZ are everything good about anime. Cool character designs that couldn’t work in any other medium, simple story that only really exists to give stakes to the crazy over the top fight scenes.

It turned to shit when Isayama developed brain worms and started consuming Marvelslop. It probably happened just when Game of Thrones was ending. He was a huge fan and the ending sucked so he dropped GoT to go look at something else and found Guardians of the Galaxy.
While the tranime had a lot of enjoyable things they were all mystery boxes filled with shit. The real moment where it's revealed that there is nothing but shit in the mystery boxes was the Annie pie scene. The entire anime builds up all these things and when it hits the climax Isayama finally starts wrapping things up and revealing things. Oh this Annie character who has been gone for so many years people forgot about her? ''SHE IS EATING PIE DOHOHOHO XDDD''
Every second after that is just more disappointment as the tranime shits on everything that came before it. I don't think a single character got away without being destroyed by the end. Even Erwin who is dead and can't be ruined came back as an actual force ghost to give a thumbs up for cringevengers killing all their people, like that's the climax of all Erwin set out to do.
The way they didn't let Levi have a dignified death and instead bring him back as a pathetic cripple who is just a joke. Completely ruining Eren making his motivations be ''lol idk why I did that, I am le stupid and wanted to kill billions for no reasons XD lol I caused the genocide of my entire race and everyone I ever loved?
