Pacifica better fit Dipper's snarky sense of humor and she kind of got him in a way Wendy and Candy didn't. She's a rich brat but he brings her down to earth and vice versa. Pacifica was able to make Dipper normal about his autistic mysteries for a few minutes and actually talked to him unlike everyone else who just kind of makes fun of him.

On that note, I think this episode wouldn't have gotten as much hate if it had came earlier in the show's run. Not after Into the Bunker AND Northwest Manor Mystery.
I always felt like the way Alex handled this particular ship was weirdly hostile and aggressive, to the point where he made easily the worst episode in the entire series just to shit on it.
The point of these sort of ship teases is to give hints, but never really provide a definitive answer. He was doing this for Wendy (obviously) and Pacifica (whom had NO chemistry or positive interaction with Dipper until midway through season 2) but for some reason he took exception to Candy.
