No. Buzz the toy was the toyline from this movie. This is the movie Andy watched and wanted to get a Buzz figure because of.

Yep, this is the typical post-modernist shit we are seeing everywhere, where they retcon tine so that trannies were always in your franchise, and the old shit you loved wasn't REALLY the story.

Never watched the cartoon. But it looked way more like what a kid what want a toy of in the 90s.

The new movie looks boring as frick for a kid. And is maid mostly so ~~*journos*~~ can write about inclusion and diversity and how the white man gets outclassed by all of them.

You answered yourself. The movie wasn't made for kids, it was made to profit from nostalgia, and even then, it is a weird, your-childhood-ideals-sucked-so-we-improved-them kind of nostalgia that always backfires, and yet they insist on pushing it.

If they had just recreated that with modern CGI animation they could have had an easy win on their hands. Race swap characters even, make the hot green girl a lesbian if they want. Just copy the setting and story from that and they'd have kids eating it up and buying Buzz Lightyear toys all over again. Instead they came up with complete garbage that appeals to nobody but blog writers and twitter addicts.

But the Good Dinosaur came out AFTER the soulless cash grab that was Toy Story 3

        Anonymous

        Agreed!
The Good Dinosaur was honestly the final proof that Pixar was completely devoid of storytelling talent.
Pixar had learned these lessons and discovered these principles, and thought that they had discovered a perfect alchemical formula for good stories. A checklist, where if you ticked every box, then you'd done it: You'd made another beloved masterpiece.
The Good Dinosaur was a perfect result of that formula. They hit every point, checked every box, did everything the formula told them to. And it sucked rotten donkey ass.
Because while a collection of storytelling principles can be a useful guide, it can't give a story its narrative soul. It can't, because that soul must be unique, or else it's just the same story over and over.

Disney already had their own internal CGI studio for making films. It's called "Walt Disney Animation Studios". They made stuff like the Frozen movies, Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Big Hero 6, etc.

Disney doesn't want Pixar to steal the success of their internal studio. So most of the talent goes to WDAS. And any story Pixar wants to do that will be similar to WDAS will be vetoed.

That's why Pixar is making these lame films now. It's a slow decline. And when Pixar starts making lots of flops, then Disney will have an "official" excuse to shutdown the studio or merge it with WDAS

Pretty much, Pixar is just a training studio for B-movies now.

They used the big the biggest innovators in animation, now they're Illumination tier and pretty much every other major animation studio is putting out more adventurous stuff than they are.

I thought Toy Story 3 was good, albeit it's basically the same plot as the first movie just with a daycare center instead of a sadistic toy-torturing tween. It ended on an emotionally satisfying, albeit somber note, and that's why I refuse to watch Toy Story 4. Everything I've been told about it leads me to believe that it completely undermines the third movie's ending because Disney needs those unlimited franchise bux.

Brad Bird is getting to make his dream project, Ray Gunn (pulp scifi mixed with detective noir)

            Anonymous

Ray Gunn has been floating around since Brad Bird's days at Turner Animation, before they got folded into Warner Bros. I remember hearing that it might be his next Pixar project after The Incredibles, and that he was hoping it would be Disney's first PG-13 animation. I was super excited about it but then there wasn't a peep about it for over a decade, until he got on board with Skydance.

Disney is falling apart at the seams. They are too big to fail but they are heading back into a dark age of muck, like they were when they released Home on the Range. Disney has a problem with CEOs sticking around for too long until eventually the leadership qualities that made them a valuable asset end up becoming a liability.

Bob Chapek is something else-- they promoted him to take the blame for Bob Iger's mistakes so he could run for political office, and Chapek was only supposed to be a transitional CEO. But now he's firing everyone inside the company who might be in a good position to replace him. Disney is in for a long, dark winter.

              Anonymous

The level at which Chapek's fricking over the Disney parks is incredible. Even the most die hard Disney fans are now going on holiday elsewhere because they can no longer take all the bullshit going on with the parks.

Even in the worse days of Eisner, he only did what he did because Disney had to slash costs or go under.

The rapids ride at animal kingdom is so fricking weird. Nothing happens and you barely even get splashed... Except for the drop where 1 rider at the bottom gets completely soaked through.

They just don't seem to understand what's fun with them, all that will go is make the single soaked person pissed off at having wet underwear for the rest of the day.

Chapek started out running Disney's retail operations (stores) and then he got promoted to parks, and finally CEO. He is a dollars and cents guy which is why they call him "Cheapek."

I don't really see what is hard to understand. Buzz Lightyear has a long franchise of his own where they fleshed out his persona as a member of Star Command. In Toy Story Buzz was a franchise. This movie is from that franchise, just like all other Buzz Lightyear media.

      Anonymous

No, this is far more complex. It's Buzz Lightyear but not Tim Allen. You want a Woody movie without Tom Hanks? I bet you do you devious snake.

Pixar still regularly makes incredibly successful movies. They sabotaged this one because of the straight white male protagonist. Even if it's unintentional, they made a movie where the protagonist is a weak b***h and is constantly being upstaged by side characters, no one wants to see that.

Disney will know a Buzz Lightyear movie should be a billion dollar movie, no way they'd try to frick it up. Could see them stepping in to salvage a project that's turning in a disaster though. It's possible that it has such a mediocre, nothing story because it had a last minute "lets just do what we need to get it finished" rewrite.

Lightyear is the Toy Story in-universe live action reboot of an in-universe cartoon from the 90s. This movie and storyline are in no way connected to Buzz Lightyear, the toy character, that we all know. It's nonsense.

Why does Modern Disney like shitting on their own properties so much?

Because modern Disney has created nothing, and holds none of it's properties in regard. Meanwhile the people who run it now have all their little pet issues they want to push through and no real leadership to stop them.

Isn't Buzz Lightyear a cartoon in the Toy Story universe? Aren't we technically just watching an episode of it then by watching this movie lol

      Anonymous

In-universe, the cartoon was created because the toy line was so successful; LGMs for instance were a Pizza Planet product, so their inclusion in Buzz cartoon would mean some sort of collaboration between companies, not to mention the reference to the movie being "new" as they get and open the VHS. New movie is a retcon to say that instead of starting as just a successful toyline, this movie is an in-universe movie that launched the toyline and then everything else.

so, is zurg really future buzz?

Unless the leaked kid's book is leaving stuff out, then no. Zurg is just a random sentient robot with no real backstory of any kind.
