First movie was deep, philosophical, mysterious. Second one had great action, good acting, a solid action/adventure fantasy movie but it was not as filled with meaning as the first one. Directors changed too. First one was fricking John Millius (who also worked on HBO's Rome), second one was a guy who had experience in directing fantasy movies. Not the same.
This movie in those movies that is straight to video trash BUT ends up being classic for some reason writers could actually write and they found ways to make the characters interesting. You can see how lazy writers are now when the similar movie is just a girlboss hacking randoms and there would be zero philosophy to it, just copypasted AI dialogue.
