codependency is a helluva drug. if you've been in a relationship with a NPD b***h and found yourself in a rut where you had to kiss her ass a little bit more than normal, these types of interactions should feel at home.

The only codependency happening here are the dwindling number of Nathan ball washers who still ride this guy's microdick despite him not making a good episode of television or film since the rehearsal s01e01.

I don't know who did the work on this so maybe it's all Nathan, but I'm astounded by the Safdies'ability to create intriguing characters with almost nothing -- this guy is a PE teacher with just a few generic lines but just how these lines are used, how he looks, and how he eats he becomes extremely compelling and rounded. Without ever becoming gimmicky.

It would be fun to watch Fielder do a completely different character than usual, but I think you're right, not sure if the range is there enough for it to be funny. It would have to be a really good fit, for him and the project.

I wish Benny made more shit. I loved Good Time and Uncut Gems and this a lot. Excellent filmmaking skills. Meanwhile they give 500 million to literal whos who can't direct shit.

Imagine season 2 opens with Dougie doing an interview. He is now a famous UFO/Paranormal documentary filmmaker who got famous with his Asher flying away video

      Anonymous

Show would feel very empty without Asher but Dougie and Whitney are great characters so it might work. Seeing the aftermath of Asher's death could be interesting though. You could have something like Whit being hounded by competing documentary crews, one is true crime trying to prove that she and Dougie plotted to kill Asher, while the other is a supernatural show trying to find out why gravity reversed for Asher. Meanwhile Whitney is trying to use the attention to sell her own show where she has to balance exploiting Asher's death while still coming off as sympathetic.

Ultimately season 2 is unnecessary but it would be fun to see how the world realistically reacts to the supernatural finale.

        Anonymous

That'd be a fun direction for the show. Fielder can come back shamelessly as Asher's twin brother or something. I picture occasional moments where Espanolaites stop and think it's Asher and get into altercations and what not.

          Anonymous

True, having Asher shamelessly come back would fit the tone well and even fits the themes/storyline since Whitney can't get rid of Asher despite wanting to (her own curse of sorts). Frick it, just bring him back as a ghost and lean into the supernatural aspect

            Anonymous

You're right, it would fit the tone really well. The Fielder-Safdie vision seems to be taking the mundane, matter-of-fact and squeezing every bit of cringe weirdness out of it as possible without drawing too much attention to it.

Asher's twin brother has the same haircut and dresses only slightly differently but he's fully self-aware and doesn't put up with Whitney's shit. Whitney finds herself falling in love with this guy who's the man she wishes her dead spcaebaby ex-husband was. Asher-bro isn't having it though because he's into latinas.

  19. 3 months ago

No, Asher-bro is married to an orthodox israeli woman and Whitney tries to break up that family. Orthodox wife played by Katherine Hahn.
