Yeah. I loved VVitch and The Lighthouse, but unfortunately The Northman just wasn't a good movie. The lead was absolutely wooden which caused the revenge film lack an emotional edge and turned it into an aimless, phlegmatic slog.
It's not that he's super wooden but the movie itself has already been done (i.e. Conan). There was little to no innovation aside from the nice ending.

The VVitch and Lighthouse seem popular in the zoomer film circles. Some random Asian barber I had once mentioned the movie out of the blue, he thought it was the coolest shit ever. I dont think any of Eggers movies are amazing but all 3 have been good so far, and the first two get talked about by heaps of people with a passing interest in kinógraphïe
People seem to forget that the studio forced Eggers to rework and cut so much out of the movie to dumb it down for mainstream audiences. He said that the experience was horrible and that he will never work with a studio that big again

First 40 minutes were tight, though I wouldn't have minded some extra scenes to flesh out his berserker life a bit more, like how he got found by the old dude and him growing up with the berserkers. 2nd act's pacing hit a brick wall and really fricked the movie's momentum up. 3rd act finally picks up again but the villain is such a kek by the end it doesn't even matter because he already had nothing left. Frick, he wasn't even the king of bebbanburg or whatever the frick the name was of that icy kingdom in the beginning was, so it feels like norfman was just taking revenge because the prophecy said no, not because he would return as the rightful heir of a stolen crown. The supernatural/pagan stuff was great though. Also, I want to lick the Valkyrie's pits.

It was better than expected, I liked how in the last act it set up the usual clichéd choice of love vs hate and then subverted it by having the protagonist choose both.

It was a solid 7/10 story about mongolturkic migrants by acclaimed mongolturkic director Robert Eggers.
Anya Taylor Joy was the biggest drawback to the film because she’s a terrible actresses.
For me it was Nicole Kidman's hideous bogged face that completely ruined my immersion. I think the film gets weak as soon as the North Man starts posing as a slave or whatever. Lost interest after that tbh, still decent flick though
