Women are championing this as some sort of feminist movie. Maybe Emma Stone thinks that.
I thank that is a massive oversimplification based on Lanthimos' filmography.

Reminds me of the moron freakout over Licorice Pizza.

I mistakenly told my girlfriend one time the key to keeping her happy was treating her like a child.
      >Hey, do you want to watch a movie and get some ice cream?

That's the thing you bring out when you're blowing up the relationship.

it's the opposite, every woman I've talked to about this irl considers this an anti-feminist movie (even though I doubt lanthimos made this because muh feminism, he just liked the story). It's one of the most common criticisms because the prostitution scenes left a bad taste in the audience's mouths

Bella goes from 0 to 100 real quick on the promiscuity scale with no worries for her personal safety, so it's not particularly relatable to women

            Anonymous

It's not just how fast her promiscuity grows, ironically the audience didn't mind that much when bella was spirited away by the chad lawyer (despite the whole pedo issue), it's bella's willingness to do (what are considered by current culture) disgusting things, including prostitution and her embrace of the experiences she gains during it. Especially the scenes with the repulsive men, it was obvious from people's reactions and discussions afterwards that these were the tipping point towards them being disgusted by bella's choices and life.

So a womans affirming experience is analogous to killing yourself and having your unborn fetus's brain shoved in your head, causing you to act like a sex-obsessed moron?

I dont find that to be affirming at all. Its a....good thing that shes a moron that cant control her vices? Women were / are just walking babies with veganas? Men bad because they take advantage?

What was the point, the message here that we haven't already heard without 20 minutes of softcore porn?

god I hate this trend where people interpret everything they see in a plot as an intended moral lesson by the creator
it's a fricking story based on a book, noone is telling you how to live your life or what is good and bad, it's entertainment/food for thought, interpret it however you want or just disregard it

as far as the movie is concerned it was fine, certainly felt more like cinema than anything else in 2023

Haven't seen it yet but I tend to agree. Moralgays (usually a handful of American male millennials) are just projecting their hang-ups/obsessions instead of working through their issues.
The novel's point (ridiculing those who try to assume women will stick to Victorian social norms) is sound, now more than ever. Whether you have it or not, sex and nudity do not harm society because they're part of life.

This movie is great, it's been a week since i've watched it and I still find new things to think about it daily. For example, I just had the insight that Bella is basically the anti frankenstein monster. The monster was bitter and aggressive because he couldn't have sex, so he became twisted and corrupted. Bella had sex and touched grass and by the end of the movie she became a functional human being
