It wasn't actually a bad episode. It helps it was a Jerry and Rick episode where it isn't spent just Rick shitting on jerry. First episode was garbage this one was at least more along the lines of what is to be expected of the show.

How's the new VA?
Good. Barely noticed the difference.
There's a new VA?
No, Rick's voiced by the same guy who's always voiced him: Ian Cardoni. Cardoni has been crushing it ever since the first season of Dan Harmon's Rick and Morty by Dan Harmon And No One Else.
>
So how about that war with Eastasia?
Noticed it for all of 30 seconds.
It's shit.
I can't tell the difference with Morty and as long as Rick doesn't shout it's fine.
TBF Morty has had about 2 mins of screen time so far this season.
And I hate it. Why are they holding out on my favorite character. The next episode featuring Dr. Wong and the president means it's another Rick-centric story.
Whoever drew this definitely draws porn of the show I can smell it
pretty ok, you get used to it in about 5 minutes or so
it was as people call it a classic adventure, pretty decent
I had worse expectations before the season started but they seemingly only picked clips where the change was really obvious for the trailer, they sound fine most of the time in the actual episodes.
Morty sounds fine, Rick very obviously sounds like a bad impression
nice contrarianism. has it gotten you far in life? do you think it's a good substitute for having an actual personality or have you realized that it isn't and you're just trying to cope with you're intense loneliness
>it's another episode of Anon Struggles to Comprehend Theory of Mind
It’s contrarian to disagree now?
Welcome to the internet.
I noticed rick sounding different in the trailer and morty sounds fine but watching ep 1 and 2, I kinda didn't noticed it for rick but in ep 2 morty sounds awful especially during the shooting scene at the bar. But yeah I can just pretend that morty is growing up and his voice is changing
>It helps it was a Jerry and Rick episode where it isn't spent just Rick shitting on jerry
thats because its not a jerry and rick episode, the vast majority of the time they aren't distinct entities, and aren't really either character wise.
for this episode? hard to tell because of afformentioned reason.
good enough
>How's the new VA?
There are two of them. They sound like impressions of Rick and Morty rather than sounding like Rick and Morty the real characters, if that makes sense. Peak performance is doing one line read that sounds identical to Justin, which I think has only happened once or twice. Everything else is noticeably off. It's pretty uncanny valley for me personally.
It's like
said. It matches just fine until they try to crank it up to manic Roiland levels. He can copy smug Rick and tired Rick, which is fine 95% of the time, but crumbles on 100 YEARS Rick or shit-hit-the-fan Rick.
I hope he gets better at it when they run out of episodes where Roiland acted. Maybe they both will sound much better when they're not just dubbing.
With how bad the writing is, you can't even notice it because, damn, it's horrible.
It's fine but sucks in some particular moments, I think Roiland contributed more than they're willing to admit.
>I think Roiland contributed more than they're willing to admit.
When it comes to the voice acting, yes. Despite recording from home and not being involved with any of the writing before getting fired, I was still impressed by his performance in the recent Citadel episodes or the Roy episode. Justin Roiland's a piece of shit, but a skilled voice actor.
good rick, bad morty
I've only seen the trailer from a while back but I thought it was the opposite. Did something change?
i feel thebnew guy has the way rick talks down perfectly and the voice sounds scarymiky the same, but with morty it seems he can't do his subtle voice crack and instead uses an occasional "huff" like breathy sound. there's also morty's attitude feeling a little off, but i haven't watched the show since rick fought obama so maybe they changed morty's character since
>scarymiky
SCARILY! IT WAS SUPPOSED TO SAY SCARILY!
I rarely come on Cinemaphile so I completely forgot there was a new va. Couldn't tell at all
Fine for normal conversations but you can tell he's struggling to emulate Rick or Morty's voice when he has to shout.
They're inconsistent. Sometimes, they're very good, and other times, they're very bad.
I'm guessing there's something difficult about replicating Roiland's voice that the redditors doing R&M impressions aren't telling us.
It's also that they're actually doing a dub over Roilands voice lines.
Very noticeable but not too bad just from a talent standpoint.
Dogshit range
I wanna fast-forward to late Season 8 so we can hear their own takes on the characters. Redubbing is just too awkward and kind of meaningless if they still have to credit him as executive producer for this batch of episodes
I like them because they make the characters feel like they’re growing. Rick feels more down to Earth and Morty feels older.
i like this show and will probably still watch it, but the new rick really sucks. it's almost like they're opposites, morty falls apart when he's not screaming, rick falls apart when he has to scream.
Roiland was a 1 in a million voice actor and it always surprises me how easily studios are willing to drop unique once in a lifetime people for stupid reasons and create a terrible " what if " forever.
That's nearly all i think about when watching the show now, just a constant blanket of " what if " over everything, but oh well i guess. what the frick else am i going to watch, you know?
I'm sure you'll be fine with them in a year or two. The characters of Rick and Morty still come across well enough.
It's better than episode 1 but overall... meh. A bit forced, a little too predictable. Didn't laugh once.
How did the Morty voice get worse?
Rick isn't as hard on Jerry like before, or at least Jerry can take the hits better. I looove the spin they put on the classic body swap premise. THAT'S the kind of sci-fi creativity I expect out of Rick and Morty. Combine that with some cool character dynamic analysis and you've got yourself another solid episode.
They kept the voices paired to the physical forms. That's all I ask.
Fricking this. I knew they wouldn't let me down in that regard
why are people so autistic about this
>The vocal cords are part of the body, Jerry. It's hardware.
1. It makes no fricking sense
2. Don’t get to have cool performances from the voice actors
3. The only reason to do it is if you think your audience is moronic
>voice swaps with them
>VAs do the exact same voices in the exact same way
>voice stays with the body
>VAs get an opportunity to do silly impressions of the cadence/accent/tics of the other character
I like when Steven Universe did the latter
The episode of Justice League where Flash and Lex swap bodies is a really good example of this.
>Rick's VA had to do a Justin Roiland impression of a Jerry impression
Poor guy.
IT WASN'T A SPIN THEY JUST GOT DOUBLE TUVIXED.
Solid episode. Not that the first one sucked but I liked this one better.
The first one DID suck. Don't be easy on Rick and Morty. They've set up expectations that should be met. 10 episodes a season should mean better quality control.
I’m a Rick and Morty apologist and S7E1 is in the bottom 2-3 of the series (and my least favorite). Lazy bullshit.
It was a good concept but execution was just ok
They are clearly missing the energy of the early show
It's probably a combination of being busy with other projects, knowing the show is going to end soon and being demoralized by the whole roiland situation, regardless of him being guilty or not having to deal with a coworker being acused of something like that must be exhausting
all of the episodes this season were written sometime in 2021. in fact i'm willing to bet that they were fully voiced and animated before justin got fired, and they just swapped out justin's lines with the new vas. i'm not even sure if they re-did the lip-syncing.
I've heard that some/all of the episodes were already voiced by Roiland, but was this one? There was a moment when shuffled Jerry shouted "stop doing a terrible impression of me!" at shuffled Rick. If that wasn't new material then it's a pretty uncanny coincidence.
april 2020: writing for season 6 began (harmon mentioned it in the behind the scenes video)
july 2020: clip of a voiced animatic for s5e1 was posted to youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPAw95c_AOE)
going by this it's safe to assume they wrote season 7 in spring 2021 and had it voiced and animatic'd by spring 2022. all they did was replace justin's lines with ones from the new vas.
>knowing the show is going to end soon
Dan is still talking about how he wants to drag out the show for as long as the Simpsons. This shit ain't goin nowhere
Rick and Morty is the new zombie slop
It’s not going anywhere
grass tastes bad
Was Ridley more of a Roiland guy or more of a Harmon guy? He was pretty much the third co-creator everyone always leaves out of the conversation for some reason
He wrote on the last two seasons of Community and on Acceptable.TV, but he also did a podcast with Roiland for a couple years, so... a little of Column A and a little of Column B?
it was good at the beginning, and i liked the concept of their minds getting blended, but it started to feel like any other adult cartoonbas the episode went on. except for the very end when the rake freed their minds long enough for the family to fix it, that was funny
I liked it and I went into this season with nothing but a priori hatred
Few days ago I saw these two and sent them here. Someone decided to call the left one Rally and the right one Merlot. Ignore t
The anime will save the franchise. Trust.
I feel like the recasting already helped by making people care about the show again, even people who haven't kept up with it in years.
aw jeez
Who's this autismo?
The new Morty voice.
THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN
(TO KILL YOU)
>all the assblasted lorefans still seething to this day
was that a rick and morty thing the whole time?
OOOWEEE, REMEMBER WHEN RICK & MORTY HAD A FANDOM?
why his hair blue
High concept sci fi rigamarole, that's why.
science shit
I feel like they've been pushing back on the Rick abuses Jerry stuff. Since the OG Jerry came back, I feel like he's put up with less shit from Rick. I would be fine with Jerry being competent with normal stuff and Rick is good with everything else.
So we're just never getting episode commentaries again, huh?
Never ever. They stopped doing DVD commentaries after season 3 when Harmon and Roiland's relationship completely disintegrated. It's Inside the Episode segments from here on out.
Lame. I wish they still did the hour-long podcast interviews like with Season 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX2807NxY50
Is it just me or does Rick's new VA play Rick as quick to anger where Justin would make him more dismissive? Like when Rick blows up at Jerry at the beginning of the episode.
It's just you, dawg.
Is Justin gonna kill himself?
No I don’t think so, he’ll just cry into his millions and millions of dollars
Dont care not watching till Roiland is back
Let go Justin.
It was criminally boring and unfunny on top of a weak and unexplored premise
Zombie Rick and Morty is in full swing
You mean last week's ep, right?
>Custody law for dummies
Mr Poopybuttholebros...
This was great when it was done by Bonesaw in the webnovel Worm.
I thought it was ok honestly.
The biggest travesty of all though is that they stopped serving the portal time lemon lime at wendy's.
I hope they make another new Wendy's ad just so I can hear the new guys voice the characters from scratch for a change. Season 7 is just gonna be them redubbing Roiland's line reads.
