No need to be so short and the terrible in-house CG in the dark will forever tarnish it. At least the director acknowledge these problems along the shitty editing.
I really wish they would make a fixed extended version of the 1st film, it really deserves it.
The only good thing that would come out of that is better hand-drawn mech scenes. CGI aside, I thought the direction of this movie felt really fresh and unique compared to every other entries in the franchise, and I would rather have what we have right now than whatever Tomino could have done with it.
It's a political thriller set in the gundam universe, something that hadn't been done before.
It didn't feel like an anime, it felt more cinematic and with a pretty obvious early 00s Hollywood political thriller influence.
The other anon's Genocidal Organ comparison is pretty apt.

CCA
>that you need it to show it to you
I mean yes, that's what movies are for. Even a brief prologue sequence in the aftermath of CCA to catch people up, some sort of inciting event that pushes Hathaway over the edge. I know we'll get a bit of that later with Quack in probably the next movie but it's a big hurdle for investment in this first part.
The problem's not my ability to comprehend. I've been aware of Hathaway's Flash since the early 00's, I already know the basic premise and setup. But movies are for broader audiences, the few normies i've watched it with had literally no idea what was going on. Lot's of organizational concepts like the federation, Mafty, who Hathaway is in relation to the rest of the world, what he's been through, who's quess, why he has an army of goons, what newtypes are or the interplay between Hathaway and GiGi, where the Xi came from. etc.
Hathaway seems difficult to parse if you're not more than passingly familiar with the UC as a setting, or at least haven't watched CCA fairly recently.
It's good that gatekeeping still worked in 2021. Go back to overexplained isekaitrash - that's your cup of tea.
>gatekeeping
Not really, what you're trying to do is gatekeep. Hathaway is just poorly written as a movie adaptation.

I guess the entire Star Wars franchise is trash then. Go back to Marvel.

The first star wars movie is an excellent example of establishing a new story and old and new characters during a larger narrative already in progress. Hathaway is like if the original trilogy started at Return of the Jedi. Excellent thing to bring up. It illustrates my point very well.

Imagine if the bible wasn't published with the old testament.
no spy thriller is actually an even better way to describe it imo.
Hathaway definitely feels that way and they directly mentioned the James Bond movies being inspiration.
Even the way Hathaway introduces himself is like a Bond reference.

Hathaway is a sequel though, to CCA.

Maybe if there was a 33 year gap between New Hope and Jedi, and Empire didn't exist, this would hold water.
From a storytelling standpoint the movie fricking sucks. Feels like we're skipping a movie, should have seen Hathaway start or take over the group and become Mafty. Feels narratively like a 2nd act and doesn't establish characters, groups, or a theme. The music was excellent though.
Was it really that hard for you to infer what was going on in the movie that you need it to show it to you and explain something as easily inferred in the first 20 minutes as Hathaway being in Mafty?

Good thing you don't need to do either of those things to understand what happened in the movie, unless of course someone is as mentally impaired as yourself.

should have been a series of ovas like unicorn. the pacing was way too moronic fast and the flagship suits are ugly as frick. 7/10 i still really liked it but cuffrey doanstein's island was better
Hathaway definitely sets a bar for cgi mech stuff, movie just looks incredible most of the time. Doan as a movie kinda meanders a bit too much, and its hard to shove higher theatrical adventure stakes into that story(lol M'Quve had another secret-er nuke!) When the original episode, while jank visually already did a pretty good job of telling the core story of Doan as a character. Would have been better as a 45 minute ova, or an extra action scene.
One of the few genuinely great things to come from 2021. Now where's the 2nd film goddammit!
2028
Water is wet, no shit sherlock, what a waste of thread
No, it was horrible.
Nah, it was great.
Post your review here.
It was nice. I really liked the music

-ACK!
The dark shots only look bad if you have a shit TV. Looked absolutely incredible on my OLED
Hathaway is a moron.
wish it wasn't a CGI fest
what would've happened if Tomino himself directed Hathaway?
The only good thing that would come out of that is better hand-drawn mech scenes. Fresh and unique how?
You know... it was fresh and unique... how they tell the story... what?

Nice goalpost moving anon.
I agree. Post-2000 Tomino would have just shat out something akin to G-Reco's level of incomprehensibility.
Consoomers like you are the worst. What looks shit on my laptop is shit in general.
Following in the footsteps of Genocidal Organ, which is an underrated film.
Sometimes you don't need excessive gore to prove a point. I suggest you go back to your splatter teen horrors.

Yeah it was pretty good. Now where the hell are the other two movies?

They needed to be more edgy in the Davao scene. Shit had no weight to it.

have you ever seen a movie
Yeah a bunch. Normally you don't have to read a wiki or wait for the 2nd one to come out to understand the first one.
Good thing you don't need to do either of those things to understand what happened in the movie, unless of course someone is as mentally impaired as yourself.
I'm sorry but there's nothing they could tell you that would help you understand this movie better

It definitely felt like an interesting 1st part
Xi section was cool
It has the best civillian perspective of a mech fight scene since F91
It was okay. Nice visuals but nothing much to get invested in yet.

They're both good but no, Hathaway is better than Doan, much better CGI too.

The first-person views from the wienerpit are my favourite scenes.
