Siegel/Shuster era Lois was more of a "Hard Bitten, No Nonsense, tough b***h." That was really really popular around that era. Than specifically a "tomboy."
Mort Weisinger era was more girly and genki and somewhat infantilized as someone obsessed with marrying Superman.
Pretty much every other take on her is some middle ground between those two early depictions.
