It's becoming more and more obvious with each passing year that film, as an artistic medium, peaked with Harry Potter.

It's becoming more and more obvious with each passing year that film, as an artistic medium, peaked with Harry Potter. The amount of things that went right in this series is almost a statistical impossibility. Whatever flaws in it you can name are negligible, and it maintained a consistent level of high quality for a decade. Even the CGI has aged like a fine wine.
I'm not meming, I genuinely think film as an artform is done and nothing will ever top this.

We'll never be allowed to have a film where the demographics make sense based on the setting.

It'll always be "problematic" if it's not 50% minorities.

I expect Hermione to be black in the HBO series.

      They already made her black.

It's the most distracting thing watching the stage play.
        >oh there's Harry
        >oh there's Ron
        >who's this

I couldn't suspend my disbelief. It's like Harry, Ron and a third unrelated character.

Not only did they make her black but they got the ugliest black woman they could find (well, almost). She's hideous looking. And Rowling saying that Hermione isn't white in the books all of a sudden lol

Demographic that make sense based on the setting will only be allowed for every race that isn't white and you know this. Even the fictional world of Wakanda is allowed to be entirely black

Hermione becoming black is too easy and obvious.
I don't think they will do it, but making James Potter black (Harry light skinned black) would make libs wet, and perfectly work for new audience.
Snape jelly because Lilly's getting blacked, black baby destroying nazi white supremacist Voldemort, Dursleys stay white abusers who hide Harry because he's black, Malfoys stay whites who hate blacks, libs Weasleys accept and love black Harry...

They won’t race lift Harry if they actually want it to succeed long term, because Radcliffe’s look is just too well ingrained. While you’ve got that look, you can just shove anyone who looks similar to him and you don’t even need to say it’s Harry Potter, because everyone will already know. A race lift will make any advertising an uphill battle, and that’s before it induces pic related in an ever more fatigued population.
If they want to be truly devilish, they should keep Harry and Hermione the same and race lift Ron.

IDK though OP I'm sure homosexuals online will insist Marvel did what you describe even better.

I like movies made decades before I was born so it's not just "back in my day" but I can catigorically say that modern movies (last 5-10 years) are a trash pile.

I have found myself in a search ending up on the Wikipedia page for "Opposite Day," hoping to find an example of this childlike switcheroo in pop culture (and finding as adequate none) that could illustrate my double take regarding your opinion on the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

    >a-at least the books were good though

    "No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

It’s comfy but they are way worse than the books. Classic thing to say but it’s true. You couldn’t do this back then but they would probably have made better sense for a series to get more stuff in and close some holes.

I think the films are terrible personally
They butcher Ron and Hermoine from the very first book
The events of the books just make way more fricking sense like there is a logical progression of events whereas in the films things just happen and it's more like a meandering montage
Anyway I still have a lot of affection and nostalgia for the third film and I think the film manages to capture something which the book just doesn't about Harry's connection to his parents which is aided by Remus and David's acting
For me Prisoner of Azkaban is no joke a 10/10 film
I wish David Thewlis was cast in more nice roles although I loved him in Fargo season 3

      true
      >third film and I think the film manages to capture something which the book just doesn't about Harry's connection to his parents which is aided by Remus and David's acting
which is why its the best
      >For me Prisoner of Azkaban is no joke a 10/10 film
that is tough even tho Sirius black was a great actor, they really dropped ball at the end (azkaban was ok but coulda been more than 15 seconds) and the set up for 5 film wise

        > lets be honest ron hermoine shipping was bad writing. harry shoulda gotten hermoine /endtopic

This is the least bad writing about those books. Ginny made perfect sense and the Ron Hermione is a classic thing. Besides let’s be honest Emma Watson was too beautiful to play hermione. The bad writing with JK is her world building and the fact that it just breaks down completely if you think about it.

Yes Gary Oldman stole the show in every scene he was in by a mile. Let’s be honest the films have some pretty lackluster main cast actors. Watson was the best of the trio. It’s all kinds of other roles that were filled with a tour de force of good British actors. Rickman, Fiennes, Gannon, Carter, Smith, Oldman. That’s how it is when you cast kids and hope for the best.

have a nice day moron you’ve obviously not read them well enough. It was there all along. Kek what’s with the fricking troon comment lmao. - Yeah he liked Cho but she was an emotional mess and it didn’t work out. He saves Ginny in the second book and from there on there’s a pining with isn’t mutual to begin with. It’s a normal dating life.

Imagine being this triggered over the authors choice. Cope and seethe homosexual write your own fan fiction about hermione fricking Harry. You type like a woman self inserting into the character of Hermione who got cucked by the hot redhead. Let’s remember something:

            >Fellow sports nerd.
            >Someone who acts courageously before thinking.
            >Quite good at the whole spell casting shit.
            >Owes him her life.
            >Known her for years, best friends sister.
            >Ends up with the same job as Harry.
Now try reading the books like a sane adult again sweetie.

I don't think the Harry Potter films are what should be the subject of this kind of conversation, but the first 3 are p good and faithful to the writing

movies 4-8 range from meh to shit

the books are way better and actually flesh out Dumbledore/Voldemort/Snape in 5-7. the films adapted Book 6 especially horribly
