It's been 8 years since the release of Sausage Party. Despite strong ambitions of being a revolutionary film by being the very first adult animated feature, the film has mostly fallen to obscurity with no franchising in sight. What went wrong?

It was ahead of its time
They made softcore porn instead of an actual movie.
That was only at the end of the movie
>swearing haha swear words haha sex sex haha funny haha I'm saying NAUGHTY THINGS
this form of humor was never funny
Well, when it's done well and in clever or unexpected ways, it can be funny.
But when you just beat your audience in the face with it because your philosophy is exactly what you wrote there...
That's when it's just awful.
>and in clever or unexpected ways
swearing every couple of seconds is not clever nor does it make the humor more adult, if makes it more infantile.
Well, right. That's what I said. But if, say, you had a character who would typically never swear lose it in the heat of the moment and unleash a string of swears, that type of context could make it funny if written well and with the right timing and framing.
But it's never funny when you just beat your audience over the head with it.
Correct. But that doesn't happen in this film, and if it does its ruined by the fact every other character swears like a Justin Rolland skit.
Swearing and name dropping food brands is the quintessential American humor experience.
>DAMN, THIS SHITTY ASS KFC JUST GAVE ME FRICKING DIAHRREA. CRAP, LET'S GO TO FRICKING WENDY'S
It's like finding somebody's weird porn, you just put it back and pretend you didn't see it. But you'll never look at that guy the same way again.
Seth.
>the film has mostly fallen to obscurity with no franchising in sight
It's getting a series next year
https://ew.com/tv/seth-rogen-sausage-party-tv-show-spin-off-original-cast-returning/
seth rogen is a really weird in real life
a really weird guy... he's awkward, even at comic cons
IT BROKE NEW GROUND!!!!
does it have some depth to it? or is it more like...?
>OMG LE DREAMWORKS STYLE MOVIE BUT WITH SWEAR WORDS HAHAHA LE TOILET HUMOR FUNNY HAHAHAHA SEX SEX THE SEX HAHA IT'S LE FUNNY MOVIE FOR GROWN MEN LIKE US
Yes, it's like that.
They took all the unfunny overused aspects of adult TV animation and cranked them up to 11, because they could.
it has a strong anti-religious message
I'm almost certain this film was made because of the Annoying Orange, although I cannot prove this.
Director was an executive producer on the Orange show from CN
frick I knew it
i think if you go through the archives, this thread has been posted annually since the movie's release. But no matter how many years pass, no one gives any more shit about this movie.
Seth Rogen. The man physocally cannot make or be in a good film.
I went to see this at the theater on a Thursday at 11AM. There was only three other people there to see the movie. 5 minutes into the show some elderly woman decided to sit three seats from me.
The look she gave me during the orgy scene haunts me. I don't know if she was judging me or coming on to me.
god how awful
I hope that wasn't my grandma
>He didn't take the gum job from the 1940's back alley flapper girl
I hate that feeling you get when someone sees you watching something questionable. If it's your first time watching something, you have no fricking clue what's going to happen.
>orgy scene at the end made to be shocking and memorable
>people were just absolutely revolted and didn't find it funny
gay?
no anon, just normal.
>the very first adult animated feature
You're off by about 40 years
Damn, I opened the thread to post this.
No, you dumb frick, it's already been posted twice before you that it was Fritz the cat (1972).
My girlfriend's brother took us to see it when it came out. When we got out of the theater I found out Kenny Baker died. RIP R2.
>Kenny Baker died in 2015
>Disney didn't let him out of the robot until Rise of Skywalker finished shooting
Imagine the smell.
>by being the very first adult animated feature,
Uh, wasn't that Fritz the Cat.
I remember when the script leaked like a year or so before it came out, and no one here believed it was real because it was so fricking bad, even though everyone knew it would be shit.
Same. Once I read about the food orgy I was 100% sure it had to be bullshit, but here we are.
If you didn't like this film, you are not an adult and probably watch anime
>It's been 8 years since the release of Sausage Party
No fricking way.
OP is wrong, it's been 7 years.
It has an amazing cast though. I miss the era where Rogen, Franco, McBride, Hill, Rudd, Hader, and all those guys would be in Seth’s movies.
never look up to celebs in showbiz, times have changed, they're nobodies
>very first adult animated feature
What is Heavy Metal (1981)?
>Scenes where they clearly show some foods are children
>The orgy scene has scenes that involve the child like foods.
It fell into obscurity because audience chose to repress it. Sausage Party is just an unpleasant experience.
Because the weird and unpleasant little-hat people who control all entertainment and finance produced a weird and unpleasant film that's about as appealing to sit through as being pleaded for sex by Harvey Weinstein.
I remember when an anon went to a test screening and confirmed the orgy scene with some potato footage. Cinemaphile lost its fricking mind. I've been here too long.
I remember when the Sony leak happened and the entire script was posted on Cinemaphile and we made fun of it for 3 threads straight
OTP
>what went wrong?
it was made by Seth Rogen
what was wrong with the orgy scene? Because they're food?
what purpose did the orgy serve?
What was the point of it?
>it's not funny
>it's not titillating
>it doesn't develop characters
>it doesn't advance the story
>it goes on for what feels like an eternity
It was just more dumb shock value from a Seth Rogen movie.
what if I found it funny and jerked off to it? It's like saying you find hentai repulsive.
then you'd be a liar
I'd call you a damned liar. In fact, I'm calling you one anyway. You're a damned liar.
it was shit
First adult animated film?
Fricks sake the earliest animated films were porn.
This slave driving trash was just child indoctrination of fricked up satanic Hollywood crap.
>um achkshually
If you underage redditors were alive 8 years ago you'd know it was intended to kick off a new generation of adult animation. That's what OP meant, and would've elucidated if he could keep his typing hand off his father's penis.
>reddit spacing
Bad post. Go back.
>erm, why are you assuming OP meant what he typed?
>he obviously meant this thing that he didn’t even come close to implying
nice try OP, but you’re still a moron
I was here before you wienersucking paid shills even knew how to post.
Litterally every single fricking person here has seen better adult movies and cartoons on newsgrounds and did t have to sit through the most obvious propoganda ever
IT'SCH NOT FUNNY!! IT'SCH NOT FUNNY!! SCHTOP LAUGHING AT THE CARTOON ORGY!! IT'SCH PLACE IN THE NARRATIVE IS TENUOUSCH AT BESCHT!!
what's funny about it?
>IT'SCH FUNNY! IT'SCH FUNNY!! SCHTOP NOT LAUGHING AT THE CARTOON ORGY!!!
seth rogen has never made a good animated film
The entire point of the movie was shock value, which doesn't hold up or is a selling point when the internet has been a thing 20 years prior.
>we could live in a universe where adult animation is grandiose sci-fi and fantasy movies that take their subject matter seriously
>instead we live in this one
Sometimes this movie and parts of us just randomly show up in my dreams. I have not watched it in over 5 years since it was playing during a party at my college. The taco woman was weirdly hot to me at the time and I remember drunkenly asking the guys at the party if they would ever frick a taco if it looked like her. They all just laughed awkwardly at me and I felt really uncomfortable for the rest of the night
Reminder that this movie made a bigger profit than Kubo and the Two Strings.
makes sense that movie was shit while Sausage Party was awesome
Kubo ain't the best but this comparison is a textbook example of soul vs soulless
>Despite strong ambitions of being a revolutionary film by being the very first adult animated feature
how fricking stupid are you
The first adult CGI animated film.
Beowulf
it probably got a real bad rep after it was revealed how much crunch the animators had to do to make the movie.
I completely forgot about it.
outgrossed Sausage Party too
I remember that we saw it by accident with my family on TV and it took us about twenty minutes to realize that it was an animation.
Someone post the webm, you know the one.
FRICK AMERIFAT israeliteSLOP
Didn't they famously frick over the animators?
i don't want to watch this movie, but at the same time i want to know how bad it is. what should i do?hh2rgnr
there are better ways to spend an hour and a half
like watching paint dry
