It's been eight years since the release of Sausage Party. Despite boasting of being the first real adult R-rated feature in animation and franchising itself, why has it mostly been forgotten over the near decade?

I think personally that it tried too hard. So many of the jokes felt forced and all. I also don't enjoy that kind of lowbrow humor that much.

I liked it more than Heavy Traffic simply because even tho I love Heavy Traffic I didn’t really like it’s ending. But I love the ending to Coonskin. The Song of the South inspired ending where Brother Rabbit gets the monsters stuck in the tar baby, and quotes Bre’r Rabbit’s famous line, “If you don’t say hi by the time I count to two imma bust you. ONE TWO!” The way Brother Rabbit said it is so fricking cool and the way it ends with the story ending the two prisoners escaping successfully is perfect. Ralph set out to make fun of Blaxploitation, yet in the end he made one of the best Blaxploitation movies of all time, hell even Blaxploitation documentaries mention and celebrate Coonskin

Because it wasn't the first R-rated animated movie. This also answers your question, a movie needs more substance than simply "what if the hot dogs said frick?" to have any staying power.
It needed to tell some fricking jokes or something.

Because it was a fricking piece of mean-spirited shit, like 90% of everything Seth Rogen touches.

The only good thing about Hollywood going woke is the complete disappearance of "raunchy" comedies of Rogen and his ilk from theaters.

      Anonymous

Going woke didn't kill those. Streaming did. There's no reason to go to a movie theater and shell out 15+ dollars to see a fat israelite saying he likes to frick donuts when you know that same movie will be on Netflix in two months. They don't make enough to be profitable, they usually only show up for 2 weeks so they can be nominated for awards(not that they usually are, but it costs them little for the distribution and it might wind up being a continually snubbed actor's last film), and then they'll be off to streaming.

bad writing. the worst way to go about making a cartoon for adults is with the mindset that 'childrens' cartoons have cute likable characters so my adult cartoon should have ugly unlikable characters'

Well that’s interesting. Could you elaborate? Like what’s the difference between a typical animation studio and a service studio? What is a service studio and further more, what happened to them after the Sausage Party controversy?

Aside from the fact that it just wasn't funny or good, I'm pretty sure everyone knows there have been R-rated animated movies before. Fritz the Cat and Coonskin are right there, and Akira is one of the most famous animated movies ever.

Only saw clips of this I won’t lie but it’s so obviously low brow and childish. Family guy type shit. Just because it’s rated R doesn’t mean it’s good man
    Also
    >first R rated animated movie
This simply isn’t true. Fritz the cat was the first X rated movie which is a higher rating. Unless you mean it’s the first R rated technically which just doesn’t matter. Also fritz the car was dogshit to for the same reason(and for having a nonsense plot). It’s animation was better though and it had some interesting artistic moments like the sound from the bar scene being from an actual bar I think

It seems like any movie with this “Damn this so edgy because it’s rated R!” Gimmick will inevitably be almost definitely trash.

On top of being terrible, Seth Rogen and his friends basically forced the animation team to work on it. So my personal theory is that they keep it under wraps to protect him.

The only one pushing for Sausage Party was Amid and it was obvious he was getting paid to do so because he was consistently the author of every article involving Sausage Party. When the whole "animator abuse" thing broke out on CB's comment section of all fricking places, he made a single article about it and then fricked off and never mentioned Sausage Party again. It was obvious he put all his eggs in the wrong basket and accidentally missed out on one of the best exclusive stories CB could've had in years.

But I'm fine with that because Amid is fricking moronic.
